It's a section of one slat. The plane could fly and landed safely. There are 5 slats on each wing, plus outboard slats and ailerons. One part of one section on one side is (obviously) not going to bring down an airliner.
Wing wasn't "destroyed." The trailing edge of the inboard slat was disintegrating. It would not likely cause an accident, but the cause needs to be understood. The 757s are old airplanes and we need to find out if this was a one-off issue or condition that may be developing in the fleet.
Planes and cars are made cheaply today.
That specific plane has been flying for 28 years. Not exactly new...
You mean in 1996?
I hate the media and the stupidity of the people that make comments like a damaged wing, or the wing coming apart, lol if not you wouldn't be telling the story. what a bunch of clowns, is not a structural damage of the main wing, is the slat people ok? relax. The pilot followed the emergency procedure and landed the airplane. End of the story, go sleep and fly again.
I live in SF and the wind has been crazy. I woke up the other day thinking I was hearing a leaf blower - it was just the wind. I wondered how planes were taking off in that.
To me it looks like a previous strike that over time became loose. I say that because of the wrinkles above the damage. Also, how integral is this part of the wing to the security of the engine?
Wings are optional.....
Wings, toilets, doors etc are all optional. Boeing however is no longer an option for airlines and passengers.
Coming apart or a damaged wing.... two different things. Thats a damaged wing. Overexag
Doors, wings, what else can fly off from a Boeing plane? Engine next?
Bird strike?
I tend to agree. The wing surface just aft of the broken slat looks dented, like a bird(s) hit it.
Always fun to see all these videos about such when you're about to fly.
This is not a structurally important area of the wing. The wing will not just fall apart and cause the plane to crash. There’s over 100 years of engineering involved here.
Also, the last fatal major airline crash in the US was in 2009. Look at a flight map and see how many planes are flying at any given time. You will be fine.
No, a missing wing won't effect my flying. Of course it won't. Planes were designed to fly without wings.(Sarcasm)
Nothing critical to flight performence🥱
More trouble with Boeing
Storm in a teacup.
Worst airlines I ever sat
A little duct tape will do the trick
DEI airline safety! So cool.
Will magits blame Black female pilots for this, too? Just pitiful.
@@MatteBlack2024no it’s not the shanekwazz flying the planes, it’s the tyrones building the planes.
I don't know about you, but I don't care if they are qualified to repair planes.
I am just concerned about the color of their skin ...
No white men allowed...
Confess to your mother your pitiful ways
Who the F erased my message ?
🤦🏻♂️
Kinda sus that you didn't mention the type of plane
The plane is 30 years old, so it's not caused by Boeing
@@Blank00that is a nonsense thing to say. Parts are replaced. Parts can be flawed.
@MisterFaucker It's likely a 757, so it's really old. Any issues are not the manufacturer's fault at this point.
@@pji1979 it is a 30 year old 757
@@Blank00 I don't care how old the plane was or why it happened. They intentionally left out information to protect a company.
That's not journalism that's public relations
Well, I hate to say it again but these planes are pushing 31 years old!!! It’s unbelievable to think that a modern western airline like United is still flying planes that were designed in the 1970’s and purchased in the early 1990’s. COME ON UNITED! IT IS TIME TO RETIRE ALL 757-200’s.
A gremlin did it.
Seems aeroplanes now a days r neglected
Enough of boeing! does not have salvation! It is problems after problems. No way for me.
Air travel is not a right its a luxury most cannot afford.
