🏆You are spot on "Bros". This song is ALL about the lyrics. I believe Geddy's parents were imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps when they were quite young and he sings these lyrics with so much power and emotion. As an aside, Rick Allen of Def Leppard frequently used an electronic kit, such as on the song "Hysteria". As always, you two are the best!🏆
Spot-on. The lyrics are in the spotlight in this song. Geddy wrote these lyrics, both his parents survived German prison camps. Grace Under Pressure is my favorite album.
One of the best things about Rush is the members always tried to serve the song in their playing. You are bang on, it is definitely subdued or less complex in a way, but they always tried to write their individual parts to suit and serve the song as a whole. Selfless in their approach, doing what's best for the song, not their individual egos. Great reaction!
This live version of this song solidified my fandom for Rush. My first intro to Rush was Grace under pressure when it had been out for a year. I loved the studio version. But being jaded by others of my musical heroes I thought “ ok they can’t play this live like they do on the album.” This live version proved me wrong and Rush became my go to band.
Neil has two kits, the electronic one he is playing is the back kit, the acoustic kit (the larger one) is directly behind him. The drum riser spins around and he switches between the two depending on the song. This was the first album and year he incorporated the electronic kit.
These drums are just as good as any of Neil's fast tempo/busy songs. Creativity in this slower tempo song is off the charts. Love how he incorporates both the electric AND acoustic drums sets into the song.
This song is about Geddy's relatives in the Holocaust. Neil plays this song in later concerts with acoustic drums. This was 1984, the year I graduated HS. 😂

I saw this tour in Chicago, 2 nights in a row, I was 17. Good times.🤘🏻
I love the pathos and restraint of the solo - perfect for this song

They can do YYZ live like they were in the studio.

Agreed. This is really a thinking man’s groove. I can only dream about creating something this complex.

The guitar work sounds simple, but Alex is doing an insane number of chord inversions (different ways of playing the same chord).
You guys should check out "The Weapon", Live from this same concert. Maybe even better! Has an intro from the late Joe Flaherty, as Count Floyd.
Geddy's parents survived the concentration camps. Best band I've seen live musically.

That was Alex's Duran Duran hairdo. 😊
He looks a lot better than Duran Duran ever did :)
Which era Doctor Who? Tom Baker fan here. I haven't seen the later Doctors, I will someday.
Miss you guys. Hope all is well! Check out Far Cry off Snakes and Arrows album

this is the only song Geddy does not play BASE from what I understand. maybe out of respect to the holicost victims. his parents being 2 of them.
Scars. Watch the live version from 1990 if you want proof. That bass line was done entirely on keyboards.
he doesn't play the bass on Afterimage either.
