It seems just wrong. A song is one in its whole, you can change it or cut it because this way you damage the song.
Actually, the band, orchestra and the choir had prepared the whole song. But he requested himself to cut the song shorter during the rehearsal the day before. He wanted to add a third song to his performance. That's why.
