- When it comes to head to head DJ battles, Richie Rich VS DJ Flamboyant goes down in my top 5 of all time. Richie Rich was THE FIRST DJ I ever saw lift the mixer in the air while performing body tricks. Only to see Flamboyant do his own version of the same body trick seconds later.
That's the thing about battles back then, you had to think on your feet. You had to adapt and be ready to change a trick at a moments notice! The routines you see these dudes performing had no real structure. Yes they had an idea of what they were gonna do against their opponents each round but DJs like Richie Rich would arrange their battle sets on the fly most of the time.
In a day and age where pre-producing your sets is common practice, vintage footage like this helps us all appreciate the golden era of DJ Battles.

Wow...I knew these 2 were dope back in the day but never saw this footage...I always loved the energy of the old battles and the way DJs earned their rep. Thanks for posting Rob.
Daddy Rich was my favorite dj out of the Supermen, he was fast and had dope visuals (aka body tricks) I wont front, I patterned some of my battle routines after dude

I WAS THERE THAT HOT SUMEMR SUNDAY AT THE REDZONE-THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST SEMINARS COMPETITION.ALOT OF CONTROVERSIAL DECISONS THAT DAY-LOL AND DARLENE(ICE-T'S FORMER GIRLFRIEND)WAS SUPER FINE!!!! THIS WOULD ALSO BE THE SEMINAR THAT LORD FINESSE MADE HIS DEBUT AND LOST IN A CONTROVERSIAL ROUND TO MC SERGE FROM CLEVELAND.

@@jerometurner3317 Cash money and Jazzy jeff never battled in New Music Seminar.JAZZY JEFF won the 1986 seminar in 1986 and CASH MONEY won it the following year in 1987.

Man i remember seeing 3rd bass and kwame in Miami in 1990 and he battled Kwames DJ (can't remember who it was though) and it was real ill. Man them was the days. Dope set at Ol Dirty Sundays last month or so by the way. Y'all crushed as usual.
