  • Shashmaqam is a vibrantly colorful ensemble that performs the highly compelling and centuries old musical traditions of Central Asia. The ensemble presents a panorama of the classical and folk music of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, as well as the liturgical repertoire of Bukharan Jews.

These folks are wonderful! I had the great pleasure of seeing some of them in Washington, D.c. in 1994... and want to come to Queens for food, music and dance!

@shedmeraked this group has long been disbanded, some of the members are no longer alive like Isak Katayev or Tuhfaxon Pinkhasova, but I am sure other Bukharian Shashmaqom ensembles will come to Israel and perform for years to come.

Greeks, Persians, Medes All stemed from the same Seed and despite the current propaganda, there was totally mutual respect between the Persians and the Greeks so there is no surprise if any of this sounds and looks similar to Pontic music, rhythm and dance.
