This is meke as sis thanks for sharing your knowledge I live in aussie been here for 10 years and only recently fell back in love with drawing again an have taken a particular liking to tamoko and have been looking for awsome videos like this to help increase my knowledge or even a simple understanding of what every thing mean anyway aroha mai for the novel 😂 just awsome to watch mihi ki a koe sis 💯🤙🏽
So my brother's wife is native New Zealander and they just had their first child a year and a half ago. I've yet to meet either of them, but I've been trying to learn about these designs and their meanings along with any traditional patterns/gifts/practices when there's a marriage/child born etc -- possibly involving beading or knotwork etc...because I'm a crafter. I want so bad to have it be totally accurate...cause she's very in touch with her heritage (and The fact she was the lead in a movie specifically revolving around native New Zealander beliefs and practices as a kid doesn't help with the pressure either) Any advice???
Hey you got samoan patterns in there it's not Maori no offense to Maori culture koz it I think Maori culture is beautiful but give were credit is due, because we don't want this next-generation to be confused we're these patterns originally come from
Kia Ora, if you are referring to the Spearhead pattern known as "Pakati" then No they are not Samoan designs. The 'Pakati' are a representation of a Dog Skin Cloak, but it also represents a Warriors Battles, Courage, and Strength in Maori culture.
Thanks easiest to learn from so far hope ya journey going well too...

Michael Mitchett & nicorima?

Thanks for this!
Would you know any designs that come from Tainui and Ngapuhi?
Tainui mostly use Pakati and Ngapuhi mostly use Unaunahi patterns. They use these the most but have used almost all of the patterns here in the past
