It's a real shame there isn't a single lossless needle drop of this track out there on the internet. Doesn't look like it's ever been released on CD.
its very weird
where have you looked?
They used to play this at Better Days in NYC & I always thought it was Chaka Khan until DJ Bruce Forest told me who it was.
The funk is strong on this. Toni Smith’s voice sounding so good!
It is not Toni Smith singing.
unreal
Vocals by Toni Smith of "Funkin' For Jamaica (N.Y.)" fame.
"Funkin'.." is from Tom Browne with vocals by Smith.
I see S'Express borrowed the chorus for "Theme From S'Express".
They sampled dozens of songs for their "S'Express Theme".
Never knew where that sample came from
@@VelvetViolator What other songs did they sample?
@@MsLastduchess I'll look at my PC later!
@@RageTVHTX About 10 years ago I didn't know either.
This song - legendary
0:30 when this part comes in it feels a bit like Dancer by Queen, albeit a little faster.

@@matthewc.419 Yeah, I only knew the S'Express song. Now I own the TZ vinyl.

Ah so this is where s'express got the sample from
It's actually two samples, the "I got the hots for you" and "come on and listen to the [whatever she says there]".
I'm not a 100% sure that it's sampled, it sounds like they might've had somebody actually sing it.
@@janisauzins4103 At first I thought it was re-sung as the vocal has a ton of chorus and would be hard to separate from the backing. But the voice sounds identical, and there are parts of the track where the vocal is quite bare such as 4:00
