From the same creator that brought you Sonic Triple Trouble 16 Bit, now comes Sonic Drift 16 Bit. I never played Sonic Drift, I just know from common consensus that the original even for Game Gear standards is bad and/or boring. So I can't tell how much this Sonic fangame remake improves upon it.
It is fun, albeit a bit basic/rudimentary, but I'll take it. Not really much to talk about, drifting is for the most part responsive, the roster feels for the most part distinct and the racing feels fun.

I noticed that they didn't implement the ring abilities that the original game had (at the cost of some rings, Sonic/Metal would dash, Eggman/Fang would fire projectiles, Knuc/Tails would hop). No big loss really.

I love the graphics on this! The far away backgrounds look great and so do the mode 7 tracks, and the artwork when selecting your character is excellent, plus the sprites are also fantastic! Everything here looks splendid! Good work!!!

Gotta be honest…this “remake” is a huge disappointment to me.
Not only is it literally a completely different game (both Drift 1 and 2 were more heavily based on SEGA’s “OutRun” arcade title), but it also turns the whole experience into an inferior version of Super Mario Kart.
And considering that there are literally dozens of better kart racers out there, including SRB2 Kart *and* All Stars Racing Transformed…let’s just say that I don’t think this “remake” does anything noteworthy enough to justify playing it over any other kart racer currently available.
