  • the weather forecast for the days following our departure from Honolulu changed from mild to wild in a matter of a few hours with a front moving in from the East with gale force winds pushing big seas. Caught in the channel between Kauai and Oahu we ran for Nawiliwili Harbor, surfing at 8 knots and more down 12 foot seas in 30 knot winds. Even docking in the harbor was a challenge.

SO very nice to see you back and to continue to enjoy your videos. In Canada we have a saying that "third times the charm" to wit you proved that as a fact. Hope you are having a great time in Alaska and looking forward to more of the series. I don't have much to say about Chucks hair since you covered it so quickly with your hat but I sure liked Laura's new cut. Looks good on you Laura. Stay warm up there!

It is great to "see" you back.
This video of yours reminded me of a situation I faced in the Adriatic. I was crossing between Croatian islands with my wife and 8 yrs old kid. The 48 hour forecast failed to predict the "Bora" wind. We were caught by surprise in the middle of the passage. In just half-hour the wind grew from 5 to 25 knots and continued growing to above 30knts. We had four rough hours before we found refuge in an uninhabited bay. I'm pretty sure you did the right thing.

A bit of a cross wind at the pier eh? My frigate had that issue in St. Croix. Pulled into Frederickstead on a gorgeous day, with a big wind. Single screw 114' boat now. The pier was windward. We missed the first pass. Fortunately it was a very LONG pier and we had enough room to break off. Second try we landed the bow and stern line (which had been replaced with larger rope after the first failed pass) and ended up 100 yards downwind of the pier by the time the lines were secured properly. It took over an HOUR for the anchor and aft windlasses to winch the ship pier side. I ran the line handlers in on the captain's gig. So embarrassing. 50 townspeople came down to the pier to watch the berthing adventure.

Okay, I'm from Long Island is why I asked... Hopefully you guys will make it to the Atlantic if it's possible to do.
    Safe sailing

Wow! There's a lot to know about sailing...
Are they usually that helpful and friendly at most docks you guys pull into?
Have you sailed to Long Island, NY (Port Jefferson) or to Jamaica or anywhere in the West Indies?

Do you have reciprocal entitlement to other yacht clubs benefits? In other words, in you travels have other clubs allowed you to use their facilities due tou your membership at Nawiliwili?
