I have just come across this in depth review and it caught my because I have a Magnum Scout. I have nothing but praise for this bike. I bought it new in March 2023 from a main dealer here in New Zealand, I use it most days I have done over 2,400 Kms on the bike from forest trails to gravel back roads to wonderful beaches to regular roads in traffic and the bike performs great, I have not even had to adjust the chain or the gears yet!!. We have no e-bike class restrictions over here (but it is law to wear a helmet at all times while riding any bike!) so I can use all the assist levels right up to Boost and double Boost and it gets up to 55kph and it feels very solid and stable at all speeds. I have had no problems with the bike, it came with a 17.5Ah battery but I also use a 19.2 Ah battery, I took off the rocking center stand and fitted a heavy duty normal rear mounted side stand, also took of fenders and back rack and fitted my own floating rack that attaches to the seat post ( I also upgraded the seat to a better looking but just as comfortable one). It now looks sleek and stylish in black. I have owned more than a few ebikes in the past five years, a mix of mid drives and hub drives including powerful Bafang 1000 watt 160 Nm mid motors (and a Magnum Peak trail bike), both the Magnums have been great and I'm so happy that I bought this bike and love riding it now as much as I did when I first bought it. It cost me new NZ$2900 discounted (approx. US$1755)!!
I can't figure out what makes this bike worth $1000 more than many similar 750-watt hub drive fat tire bikes out there such as RAD, Himiway, Magicycle, etc. Nothing stands out as justifying the price, in my opinion. The Aventon Aventure at $2000 seems like a better option to me.
I did some quick comparisons, and this bike comes with a rear rack and higher capacity battery pack than the Aventure. I feel that despite the noise, the kickstand design is sturdier, and it’s nice that they offer an even bigger battery as an upgrade. Magnum appears to have ~10 more dealers in North America than Aventon when I did a quick count electricbikereview.com/shop-directory/?brand=Magnum I see lots of cool upgrades on the Anenton, like the fully enclosed battery, smartphone app, and woder 12-32T freewheel.
Yeah, I think it costs more because they have dealers. I think it could be worth it for the higher capacity battery and included fenders and rear rack. The only big question mark for me is the limited gear range 14-28 tooth, but not everyone will care about that. I love the color options, especially urban camo :D
2600$ and you end up with an exposed controller and low end components all over. I think in case of all these e-fatbikes, Aventon is the company who does it the best. Would be so nice to have them in Europe. The Aventons also been sold by dealers, so I don’t get the price argument with this Magnum bikes. They’re just overpriced for what they are. But as always, nice review. :)
Totally agree! I’m a dealer for Aventon and I can tell you first hand that the Aventon Aventure is the best value eBike on the market right now! This Magnum is $600 more and has a lower build bus lift and lesser quality parts.

I spoke with the shop about this when I was returning the bike, and they talked about the default side mounted stands that have been used in the past but can stick out and aren’t as stable for loading such a heavy bike. I think another company uses a similar frame and welded a different mount, but that can cause heel strikes. Ultimately, I think it’s tricky to address 100% of the trade offs when you’re dealing with a big heavy bike that might have a front rack, I have more appreciation for this design choice now considering all factors… but the noise is a little bit annoying.

Thanks for the review Court. I'm just not a fan of Magnum. Their line of ebikes is just unattractive and overpriced with low-end components. It's 2022 and Magnum still makes ebikes with batteries sticking out like sore thumbs, especially at the high price point they're selling. Agree with other poster Aventon makes much nicer and more esthetically pleasing ebikes.
I have a magnum classic 2 premium , I somewhat agree with you as far as overpricing goes , but you have to understand one thing , when you're buying a bicycle you're not only paying for the bicycle , you're buying customer service as well be it warranty , or something you need after the warranty expires , because you know companies like magnum, radrunner etc are still gonna be in business when you'll need something for your bicycle 3 years down the line. Now that being said , I have heard Aventon does not have a great customer response team , though as an aventon level owner I have not dealt with them yet , because my bicycle is still fairly new

The Reention battery design is still used on many great products, I’m really glad to see hydraulic disc brakes, but there were some compromises to make it all work. Like RadRover vibes? This reminds me of some other fat tire ebikes, but their battery design is different than both generations. I feel like the good companies tend to gravitate towards the best solutions, and actually share a lot of similar parts over time. Eventually, it might just come down to availability and desire for a shop vs. direct and color preference.

It is a nice bike....solid competitor for the Rad Rover 6 or Ride1up LMT'D... but a bit less competitive on pricing, IMO .

There must be a fix to keep the chain from hitting the kickstand. I can't believe the manufacturer would let that out of the factory.
