- I finally went and did some outdoor rock climbing. My friend Jack and I went to New River Gorge in West Virginia and climbed some classic boulders. We tried a bunch of cool boulders but 1, 2, Puch definitely stood out as our favorite.

Idk why but i somehow always think your profile pic looks like stalin. Great video
It definitely has that dictator vibe lol
I assumed it was
Straight to the gulag it is.
Wait it’s not ?
Lmao this comment is old, but for me it always looked like that old Kingston SSD that used SATA ports
I went on an impromptu hike with a friend over winter break to the top of a local mountain. We wore hiking shoes and had big rucksacks, not expecting much deviation from the activity at hand. About 2 hours in we saw a MASSIVE ridge literally right next to the path with a bajillion different possible routes in the V0-V2 range as I would say, so we proceeded to climb the thing for 2 hours and a half, in hiking shoes, resulting in us having to come back down the mountain jn total darkness, with only our phones for light. Those 2 hours were worth the spook though I’d say.
no joke, I did, literally the exact same thing with some friends of mine, at a local mountain.
that sounds awesome
Hell yeah dude, great showing for a first outdoor trip!! 💪
For what it’s worth, I also went right hand on 1-2 punch (and I completely chickened out on the topout to avoid what Jack did 😂). Next time I’m there I’ll just be brave and top it
I'm scared of that topout and I didn't even make it that far lol
I regret to inform you that since helium v3 had chalk all over it, your on sight is null because chalky holds are in fact aid
Poor Jack, that fall looked gnarly and he was so close!
Looks like a great climbing spot
Awesome video! I have a trip to go outdoor bouldering planned this week over spring break so this was great timing, and congrats on sending slopers malone!!
So far so good!
This channel needs more attention, the videos are so high quality!
Great stuff!
One of my favourite of your videos, and that says a lot.
watching him fall on that v7 was insane, great video keep it up
Thank you for being the first person to post a video that references West Virginia without calling it almost heaven.
Honestly one of my favorite UA-cam channels as of recently. Good stuff all around. Feels like UA-cam version of r/CCJ
looks like it was a pretty sweet first trip out!
Subbed! Outside is where it’s at!!!
After seeing jack on that V7, I realized something.. the church will never die
Came from pro climbers dominate game show but I’m really surprised you don’t have a shit ton more subscribers. Good stuff man, keep it up
This is awesome bro! I've done a very limited amount of outdoor bouldering and I'm about to fly to Europe in a few days, I'm spending a week visiting a friend in Norway but the next week I'll be staying in Fontainebleau and I'm both really excited and ready to be humbled really hard lmao. This video got me really pumped up for it even though I haven't been climbing that long and don't really know what to expect, I just figured it could be years if ever that I get a chance to get back over there so I figured I have to go while I have the chance. I live like 4 hours from NRG and haven't been there yet but now you have me wanting to take a trip out there when I get back!
I'm so jealous lol. That sounds like an awesome trip. You should try to hit up magnus's gym while in Norway if ur close
@@ClimbingStuff I'm going to! I spend my first and last day of the trip in Oslo and I'm going to visit his gym when I get there, probably horrendously jetlagged but it will be well worth it I think. I'm going to be broke as a joke when I get back so just trying to enjoy the experience!
You funny as hell dude! Nice video. Subbed 4 more content
Cool vid, subscription earned
nice vid, gives us plastic only climbers a glimpse of the scary, dirty outdoors.
Doing a v4 first time outside is really good
Yo! I’m from the same city as you that’s wild and go to the same 2 gyms you showed in the “training on crimps” and “top outs” that’s wild good luck
I really like that you changed your hair! 😁
This was a good video, thanks UA-cam algorithm is never something I thought I would say but now I have to.
You should probably visit Fontaine Bleau next. I always there for like week long climbing trips and go from blues at the beginning to fighting on blacks at the end.
I'm surprised this has so few likes due to how quality this video is!
So it seems difficult wise (other than the difficulty of learning how to top out) it's somewhat comparable? Coming back fresh I know you'd easily finish that V6 and V7, they looked great
Come to PA! Let’s climb some disbase at mt Gretna!
NRG is my favorite bouldering spot, the grading is generous at times there compare to Southeast tho
Good effort, glad you enjoyed. FYI, you can't onsight boulders, only flash. Basically, you can see most or all of the holds most of the time from the mat, so onsight is blown. I suppose you could be taken to the bloc blindfold and start when the blindfold is removed... 😀
I'm definitely going to try that now lol
It's not because you can see them... It's because you can touch most of them. Nothing to do with just seeing them.
@Dusk if someone doesn't understand, you don't throw the rulebook at them, you give them a steer. Of course touch is relevant also. I could continue. Try thinking from the heart, not the ego 🙃
@@fishmate5443 That's mostly fair to say, but your initial comment was rather a flat out statement of certainty. "You cannot onsight a boulder", there is no 'rulebook', that says that either, in addition to the fact that with 'sight' being part of onsight itself, doesn't make sense for that to be the reason why you don't onsight boulders. Oh well, good day mr
That V6 is fucking sick
Outdoor bouldering is so scary dude I think I'll stick to ropes lmao
I find ropes much scarier lol, even though statistically they're much safer
Who is it taking the fall around the 5 second mark? Rough!
HOLY SHIT NEW RIVER GORGE! I went there two years ago to do white water rafting and saw people rock climbing and it's what inspired me to start bouldering. I've been bouldering for almost a year now and it's basically my whole personality. So cool to see this!
I've been trying to go outdoors but I live in Indiana and every time I go to the bay area it's raining the entire pacific ocean out here D:
I feel like it just perpetually rains on lake Michigan lol. Have you tried muscatatuck Indiana? I heard the boulders there are pretty legit
@@ClimbingStuff Haha I meant Bay Area California (where it shouldn't be raining!) I'll search that up!
Could try Red River Gorge, it’s about a 5 hour drive from where I am (Lafayette) but totally worth it if you camp for a night or two, I go all the time. Has enough bouldering for a few trips, and a lifetime of sport climbing.
What’s the name of the beat playing in the background?
Sir, you make fun videos, climb more and film more. Please, thanks!
What song/beats did you use for this vid, sick vid btw!
ur comedy is underrated LMAO
You could've probably sent those last boulders if you had taken your shirt off.
Ive only ever bouldered outside
I actually found 1, 2 Punch to be way easier with the dyno. I couldn't figure out how to use the shitty high right crimp for the "normal" beta
v5 i was no balling killed me
What site or app do you use to find these locations?
Curious what the highest grade you’ve sent in a gym was at the time of doing this experiment?
Across multiple gyms I've done quite a few V7 - V8 boulders, but usually the easier ones, so probably V7's for the most part.
Dude if your first outdoor bouldering was at Cotton Bottom, then you’ll do fine elsewhere. The NRG is tough as nails and legendary for how stout the grades are; everything there is sandbagged. Slitty Titty would be a 6 anywhere else, haha.
V9s is nails
Church of lip traverse-ology
Next trip you can say: "V2 in my crag"
0:20, thought you were gonna say bishop or Joshua tree 😂
Does Jack have a chanel we can look at?
Unfortunately, he doesn't. But he'll be in more videos for sure!
The fact he didn’t do Slitty Titty Traverse for his V4 was deeply disappointing.
the music kills this video
Onsighting? Dude. Bouldering
you really need a better camera for outside climbs, your doing the climbing and the excellent background music no favours with that camera
terrible haircut 🙌
All this disgusting static climbing. Should have dyno'd the V2
slopers malone is so good!
