I love Tolkien, and have read LOTR about 70 times. Silmarillion a few times only. JRR Tolkien spent many decades polishing his prose and going back endlessly revising and trying to get everything perfect. In LOTR almost every sentence is perfect, the prose almost Shakespearean in its beauty. Imagine how he would feel to see all his rough notes and half-finished and abandoned versions cobbled together by someone and published posthumously. I feel that this collection should never have left his office. I can imagine him turning in his grave. Sorry, but that’s how I feel. Remember when Bilbo works with Aragorn on finishing his poem, and asks the elves to say which parts were from a hobbit and which from a man? Well, in reading this work, it is often (but not always) clear which prose is from JRRT and which from CJRT.
can u comment on the quality of the papaer❓.... is it yellow-hard-stiff ❓❓ because i've just got mine copy 1 day ago and they are not as same as the hobbit and lotr hardcover harper collins edition.
I think the quality was ok. Medium thickness. I would say it's the same as the anniversary edition of the Hobbit, but thicker than the anniversary edition Lord of the Rings boxset which had very thin paper quality.
