    Thank you for the video. Just bought my first Prius and was just making sure that the battery wasnt bad. I did about 2.5 miles in ev mode and battery went to 2 bars. Was scared but after seeing your comments and video it helped me out. Much appreciated. Sorry for the bad grammar.

    Awesome. In city conditions it will be very helpful to minimise fuel use. 2 miles is alot if one is stuck in a congestion,that's when most fuel is wasted.

    Pretty good if you live in an urban area with a lot of traffic or if you're doing a trip to the store that is less than a mile away.

    What i noticed, how many people say that the EV Mode Range is very small. Yes it is, but they all forget, you mostly drive that in the city. And in the city you never have one straight line where you drive the full EV mode speed. You have speed Limits, other vehicles which slow you down, you need to brake a lot (and recharge the battery) etc. So you get even farther away in pure EV Mode then what Toyota says.

      So, 99.9 isn't "God Mode" fuel performance mode anymore? My 2016 Camry is maxing 99.9 miles. I came down route 431 from Lake Tahoe down to South Reno and at the bottom was showing 92 Mph on my fuel economy. No complaints there on a steep downhill. 😄

    This is why I bought a Prius Prime. I really like my mother's 2014 Prius but the 25 mph/45 mph EV limits just kill me sometimes. I was scared away from a used Volt because of the engine bearing failures plus my taxable income is just over $5k so the $4.5k credit on a Prime is perfect.

    I live about 2 miles from work, but usually can't use EV for the commute because of the warmup and the hills. It's not good at all on hills without the gas motor.

      2 miles? Why not ride a bike? that is a 10-15 min bike ride, at most. It is not good for cars to not drive 20 minutes due to not heating up as well.

    I have a GS 450h F sport and I average 33-40 mpg depending on my driving habits. Sometimes I want to enjoy the torque. But the ev mode is perfect for my applications. My 3 series gets 24mpg avg on a good day (with the 4 cylinder!) is much lighter/smaller. What I like is that there is about a half mile from my office to exiting the campus gate onto the highway and I can do a lot of short trips in and around the work site throughout the day without using any engine power. Speed limit varies from 25 to 15 mph around my office. Toyota/Lexus plug in hybrid is a non starter for me. I think a fuel range of 600+ on premium is good enough.

    I simply want a normal-looking car that has an 'Atkinson engine' in it, because those are the most fuel efficient. The base Corolla Hybrid has that, and that's why it gets 52 mpg hwy, compared to the 2.0L engine that gets 40 mpg hwy. (I do mostly highway driving). The hybrid system simply adds a little bit more of a boost to get the weak engine going from a stop.

      Hahaha! I can certainly add that to my list. My guess is it wont take the juice too badly. I can let it idle with the A/C on for awhile without the battery dropping.

    • @Hawqis1
      @Hawqis1 4 роки тому

      There would have to be a long braking or a downhill to get the battery up to 100%. I struggle to find the right combination of roads, temperature, time of day, tire pressure, and personal comfort to get 1.8 miles. The 12 I have, I've got to fool it to stay into ev by going 45, then pop it into neutral and go downhill.

    With an electric car, your electric bill going up is almost trivial. The gasoline you don't burn and the oil changes you don't need (Pure EVs only) more than make up for the extra charge on your electric bill.

    • @christianhernandez1435
      @christianhernandez1435 4 роки тому

      Your gas will still always be more expensive than the electrical bill.

    Hi, thanks for the video. It's the closest thing I can find to my question, which is....if the car automatically changes from EV/Eco & Power, what's the point in having the three buttons available? Surely the car will automatically drive in eco mode without me pressing the eco button. Same goes for the power button, the car will automatically drive powerfully if I put my foot down. So why have the option to set the engine to EV/Eco/Power if the car responds to the gas pedal? I hope you can elaborate. Many thanks

    • @ccredmansvids
      @ccredmansvids 6 років тому +3

      Sorry this reply is super late.
      The Eco mode makes the accelerator less responsive and makes it easier to not be a lead foot.
      EV mode forces it to use only battery for certain situations where you would want to only run on battery.
      And power mode I'm not so sure about.

    • @alanclarkeau
      @alanclarkeau 8 років тому

      True, not far in entirely EV. But Prius is a totally different vehicle from Volt or Leaf - Leaf is ONLY electric, when it runs out, you walk. Volt is more a partial EV which then accesses the petrol engine to give a reasonable range. Prius is a HYBRID - designed to work together the petrol and EV engines to give a good range and good fuel efficiency.

      I don't think it's really its intended purpose. This car is meant to be in hybrid mode, unlike say a Chevy Volt that banks on the fact you'd be on battery 99% of the time.

      Could you get 2miles at the start of your journey and 2miles at the end... therefore approximately 4 miles per trip... maybe.

      Remember that it's a hybrid and not an EV. I can get 900km of range out of an C-HR hybrid with it's 43 liters tank.

    HOW LAME!!! Is this what Prius drivers have to do to drive on battery. Chevy Volt drivers just gun it to 100 mph, with AC on, blowing away Prius. This guy is really grasping saying he will trip over a cord, or somehow effected by a lighting storm. You just jumped the shark! My 2014 Volt has 62,000 miles on it and I have a Lifetime mpg of 130 mpg. In June I got over 600 mpg. Last month was over 300 mpg. Note: I drive 20,000 miles a year. This video just shows me how Prius owners would love a Volt. Volt owners choose how the Volt operates: Battery only, Gas only, both gas and battery while rapidly charging the battery, and my personal favorite Sport mode which really gives the car quick acceleration. For $21,500 you can buy a 2017 Volt after $9,000 in Fed tax credits and rebates. Don't be an EV wanna be like this guy. Be smart, buy a Volt, turn up the AC, and gun it to 100 mph if you so desire.

      I'm not a Prius fanboy by any means. I have been watching EVs and hybrids for years, just watching and waiting. If money wasn't a factor, I'd have a Tesla in my driveway today. For my use, a lower range electric only vehicle won't work. So I settled on the car needing to be a hybrid. From there, I had to chose between a Prius and Volt. I really wanted to like the Volt, and I do, but for my use, I liked the Prius a bit better. I factored in gas mileage for my commute, resale differences, reliability differences, and so on. My decision was to buy a mainstream, reliable and easy to sell car, and wait for the next round of ground breaking EVs to come out. Thanks for the comment!

      jettlash1000
      1). 2014 Volt mpg lifetime after 62,000 miles is now 130 mpg. Prius might get 50 mpg if you drive it like a Prius.
      2). Cost: new 2017 Volt is $22,000 after $9,000 in tax credits and state rebates. Easily much less than the stripped down entry Prius.
      3). Resale: went to KBB and found my Volt retained 82% of my final cost. That is higher % than Prius.
      4). Reliability: better than a Prius. Plus the Volt really has no maintenance because most of the daily operation is battery and electric motor. Just rotate tires and about every two years change the oil, not that it really needs it, but they say just do it every two years. That's the maintenance on a Volt.
      The Volt is a car nobody wants to compare their car to because it dominates all others. It's an amazing vehicle that can do 0-60 in 7.7 seconds, but really dominates off the line to about 50 mph. The Volt acts like a pure EV, but has no range anxiety. If anybody is waiting for an incredible car that can literally get thousands of mpg if you drive less than 53 miles per day, the wait no more. The Volt is here, the $9,000 rebates and tax credits are still here, don't wait!
      Math: 53 mile range x 365 days / 8 gallons of gas automatically burned to keep it fresh = 2418 mpg. If you drive 53 miles to work and charge at work, then you get 4836 mpg in a Chevy Volt. Isn't that amazing enough to get one before the rebates disappear?

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 років тому +3

      The Volt is a really cool car. Out of curiosity, do you factor your electrical charges in to your math? I know when I calculated my commute, it was almost dead even. My average mpg has been 62 over 4200 miles.

    • @voltecrules624
      @voltecrules624 8 років тому +1

      jettlash1000 I live in California and use Southern California Edison electric co. They have an EV vehicle plan that charges 10cents a kilowatt from 10 pm to 6 AM. Before I bought my Volt my electric bill was $100 dollars give or take a few bucks. After I bought my Volt and my bill is still about $100. I do do most laundry, coffee making and dishwasher use during 10 cents a minute. That may make a difference, but the end result is I don't pay more for electricity since I bought the Volt. I also charge for free at work and return home with about 1/2 charge left.
      So 80% to 85% of my driving is on battery and charging is essentially free since my electric bill didn't go up since I bought it.
      If you live in California you have to get a Volt. You get a car pool green sticker that also lets you bypass on ramp lights as well. You get a $1,500 check from the state when you buy a Volt. Basically free charging on EV plans. It's just a no brainer. Plus no maintenance really, compared to ICE cars. Ex: my friend has an ES 350 with 30,000 miles on it. It's a $600 service at the Lexus dealer. The Volt might be a $29 multipoint inspection and tire rotation.

    • @rabbitruck
      @rabbitruck 8 років тому +3

      The Volt is an interesting car, and I'd own one. I'd buy it used, though, or lease depending on the deal. Depreciation on them (sold new) is brutally fierce in my area. They seem to drop like a stone in value as soon as they drive off the lot, worse than the average car. But used, after someone else has taken the beating, seems like a decent buy.
      By the way, as an aside, I'm not sure what compels someone to come in and thread crap someone else's very informative and well done videos on a product a fair number of people are interested in. Must be some sort of insecurity, a need to invalidate the choices of others in a weird attempt to validate their own choices, etc.
      For example, I'd never own a Mitsubishi Outlander, but I don't feel the need to seek out videos from Outlander owners and comment negatively on their ride.
