  • During the Monaco Yacht Show last September, we had the chance to step onboard the new Sunreef 80 Eco Power Athena Too, alongside the Sunreef team to get a unique insight into how the company has developed its own composite compound, developed new technology and integrated a number of sustainable solution onboard its yachts. Like its sailing counterpart, the Eco Power is packed full of new technologies that make the yacht virtually autonomous everywhere in the world, Justin Ratcliffe finds out more.

Im curious: At what point will solar panels get flexible enough that we might start also seeing solar sails for even more power generation?

How long does it take to recharge the batteries? Does it take 10 - 12 hrs? Love the idea, if I had the money I would get one and just sail away . .

Love the direction Sunreef is going. They should definitely consider collaborating with Toyota for their maritime hydrogen fuel cell solutions. The perfect solution for a cloudy day. Excess solar generation can be used to create hydrogen for use later.

If you listened to the end you will have heard him say they have already delivered one hydrogen powered unit.

If you were to sail on solar power alone, how many kilometers could you sail per day?

Depends on speeds. Boats are exponentially (not linearly) more costly to drive faster.

Is there a plan to add Hydrogen generation to the eco line? Sun, Hydrogen, etc

Going electric is NOT an issue. We have hundred of electric power ships in used including the Nuclear powered submarines. The issue is how you generate the electricity needed to power the vessel. Solar will NEVER able to do this 100%.

Depends on the region. Another Sunreef was said to be able to run 300 miles @12 knots. BVI, Sea of Cortez. Thats fast. Imagine running it at 6-7knots like most sailboat. It's highly capable.

Did you go 300 miles @12 knots on a single charge without using sail?
How many hours/days does it take to charge the batteries from empty using solar alone?

@@anotherelvis Если вы используете катамаран по выходным, то это идеальный вариант. Огромная экономия на топливе. А если вы путешествуете по несколько недель от порта до порта, то лучше парусов ничего нет.

      They have backup generators.
