    Glad I found this. After being sorely disappointed with the runtime using the AA battery sled on my MixPre 10 II and an Amber Mic, I'll definitely be looking into a Jukebox type solution. Thanks Curtis!!

      Excellent. Many people struggle with the concept of spending that much money for a batttery but it sure does pay dividends when shooting for pay.

    I use that Talentcell for my Zoom F8N and get easily 6hrs + of life with 8 condenser mics plugged in, all getting phantom. That's as far as I've ran my test. A no-brainer for me.

    Hi there,
    Thank you so much for such informative videos.
    Do you see any pitfalls in powering the PreMix 10-II using a Powerbank like the 140 W Anker 737 PowerCore (I believe it might be 85 WH) in conjunction with a USB C to a Hirose adaptor cable, please?
    Many thanks for your advice.
    Best wishes

      I have now received the USB C to a Hirose adaptor cable (by ALVIN Cables)
      and he ANKER 737 power bank. Everything works fine. All channels on the MixPre 10-II function in 32 32-bit float with phantom power activated.
      However, there are some settings on the unit that I can not find any description of.
      In the External Power screen, there are six settings:
      (1) 12 V Ext DC
      (2) NiMH
      (3) Exp. NiMH
      (4) 12V PbAcid
      (5) 14V Li-ion
      (6) Full Range
      While options 1, 2, 4 and 5 are fairly clear, I can not find any description of options 3 or 6.
      In fact, none of the options are clarified in the user guide.
      Any help is greatly appreciated.
      Many thanks

      @@NavaArtsUK Best to contact Sound Devices support for confirmation on those. My guess on 6 is that you can use 3rd party chargers that may operate at a different voltage than 12V, but definitely best to confirm with SD.

    Hi Curtis, great video as always. Thank you.
    I believe that the JuiceBox V-mount battery that you use in this video is the 95 Watt version, cuz of the size of it i am courious, also the link sent me to the 95 Watt Version . I wanted to asked you , how many hours the 95 Watt version will last powering the mix-pre 10 aprox ? Thank you

    • @LearnLightAndSoundSessions

      Hi Pablo, depends on the settings you use and number of channels you record. At least 4 hours, more likely 6 hours if you disable channels and outputs you’re not using.

    Hello Curtis, I just found your channel a few days ago having bought a pre 10T.
    Let me first say what a great audio channel you have here, I have learned so much and your breakdowns and explanations are first class!
    I was wondering if you had any experience with the temperature of this device. I was using mine for a shoot last weekend, with a hirose-dtap cable to a vlock battery and the AA battery sled with lithium batteries for bridging.
    The device ran very hot, to the point where I several times during rigging turned it off and took it out of its bag to cool down. The device was very hot to touch trough the rubber on top as well, and I was afraid maybe I had something that was drawing too much power trough it, but all I had was a Sennheiser 416 mic in input 1 and that was it.
    My question is, do these normally run hot, or is this unique that I should be talking to SD about?
    Sorry for a lot of text and thanks in advance :)

    • @LearnLightAndSoundSessions
      @LearnLightAndSoundSessions  5 років тому

      Hi Daniel, not unusual for the 10T to run warm to the touch but if it is getting hotter than that you may want to see about ensuring there’s some decent airflow in the bag. If that doesn’t help, may be best to contact SD support to make sure everything is ok. Best wishes!

  • @RedBearAK
    @RedBearAK 6 років тому +1

    I'm curious how many mics you were phantom powering when you only got one hour out of the 8-AA battery sled? With all the talk of poor battery life on the MixPre devices, I was surprised to be able to get over 6 hours out of a MixPre-6 on 8 AA NiMHs, with one phantom powered condenser mic attached.

    • @LearnLightAndSoundSessions
      @LearnLightAndSoundSessions  6 років тому

      2 plus recording 2 additional wireless channels. There are a lot of factors that contribute to overall battery life. But that's great that you got 6 hours. Wow. Which AA batteries are you using?

    • @RedBearAK
      @RedBearAK 6 років тому +1

      I looked for the highest capacity I could find from a known brand that had good reviews on sites like Amazon & B&H. Found Powerex Pro 2700mAh AA NiMHs in 8-packs for under $25. Supposedly minimum capacity when new is 2550mAh. The popular standard Eneloops are only rated at 1900mAh. Eneloop Pros are rated at 2450mAh minimum and are $33 for 8-pack. Only time will tell how the Powerex Pros maintain their high capacity but they've performed very well so far.

    Hi Curtis. I bought the 150Wh version of the Juicebox V-Mount which is of course even larger than the 95Wh one. I was wondering if you've used you 95Wh while having your sound bag on you (not on a cart) and how do you contain/strap the battery while doing so? My 150Wh is not going to fit in my Orca OR-27 bag, so I'll need to somehow attach it to my bag harness in an ergonomic way. Thanks.

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd 5 років тому +1

      Hi Danni, I typically use Hi-Q style smart batteries these days but bring a V-mount or two for backup. I slide the V-mount into the second slot in my OR-30 and it fits nicely there. With the OR-27, it sounds like you may need to get more creative. Perhaps it will fit under the slot divider? Or perhaps the front pocket? I haven't worked with the OR-27 so I'm not sure how it is laid out. Best wishes!

    • @danniv13
      @danniv13 5 років тому

      It ended up fitting snug in the front side gap of the main part of the bag-resting on the top edge of the divider. So I may take out the divider so the battery hits the very bottom of my bag. Then I can place it vertically. Love your videos. You are my main go-to for many topics. Very straightforward with logical pros and cons. Thank you for replying.

      @curtisjudd 4 роки тому +1

      Hi Pwetty gleesh, either one can work. The 150 has powered me through an 8 hour day but it will vary depending on how many mics, how many need phantom power, etc. Usually I'll need two to be extra sure to make it through, especially longer days.

    Hi Curtis, I'm currently using a Zoom F4 with a Talentcell battery pack and DC to hirose connector. On the Zoom's home screen it shows the input voltage on the battery metre so you can tell when the battery is going to drop below the unit's voltage requirement. Is there a way to check this on the Mixpre ii series recorders? (the minimum power requirement on the Mixpre ii is 10v and the Zoom is 9v which is why this question sprung to my mind).

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd 4 роки тому +1

      Hi 1991ClarkJames, I don't believe the MixPre shows voltage anywhere but the power indicator changes colors as the voltage drops - green, yellow, red.

    If you want to use AA batteries, use NiMH rechargeables or Lithium primaries. We do not recommend Alkaline batteries as they have high internal resistance and so are not suitable for higher current applications. This is stated in the user manual.

      I have a question.
      Can I use the MX-USB Y cable included with the MixPre 3 and 6 to use the MixPre 10T as an audio interface with a computer with USB A ports?
      I know this cable can not power the MixPre 10T, but, it is compatible to use it to connect the MixPre 10T with a computer with USB A ports?
      Or which cable do I need?
      I don’t want to fry my device.

    such a terrible position to put the hirose input on the mixpre!!! Designed to break after a few months of gravity having its way when used in a bag!!! it shouldnt be angled out, better to come into the unit parallel with the case of the unit.

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd 5 років тому +1

      In practice, I've found it isn't as horrible as I originally thought. I keep the battery plate in place and that provides enough clearance such that the position of the hirose input is pretty close to perfect.
