Watching Iko playing on and licking (lol) the porch was so darn cute! She's having the time of her life in that weather. Glad you faired the cold and storms well! Unlike some of your neighbors, unfortunately. Water is definitely a force to be reckoned with. What a beautiful pic of the rainbow!!
Freezing cold storm, and what do we see? Sarah is still smiling, Brandon is still being the Director Of Fun, and Iko is still crazy. The Joneses are unstoppable. You guys Rock! I love that pontoon. A few small modifications and you could live on that. Just for a holiday, not permanently, and not in winter. Stay strong - summer is coming.
OMG...Iko is so adorable in the winter. She is a total kid playing in the snow! So glad you fared well through the storm and still had at least hot water. Scary to think about how an unattended house could break anchor and slam into those around it. Glad that didn't happen this time. Sorry about your neighbor's boat. You guys sure do your due diligence in trying to get it flipped back over.
This is an awesome video! Wow, that rainbow was breathtaking! Poor Brandon, and you, what a long night that was for y’all. Glad everything, for the most part, was okay. Your neighbors/friends are very fortunate to have such trustworthy and dependable folks to look after things…y’all are awesome. Nothing better than a warm, cozy, kitchen on a cold winter’s day. Your bread looked delicious, as well as the brownies (cake?). So happy to see Iko in her element! Y’all stay safe and warm…see ya next week!
Man oh man does the man upstairs give us beautiful music when it rains/storms like that. That sound of rain hitting a metal roof or the water is one of the best sounds my 45 year old ears have ever heard. My grandmother lived in old log cabin when i was growing up and those are some of my best and scariest memories of being at her house is when it stormed. Love it ! ❤❤❤❤❤ what a life 😊
GREAT VIDEO!!!!! Ever sense the storm came through here ( East TN) I've been chomping at the bits to see how you guys faired. Good job on the video!. Seeing Iko so happy playing and doing her doggy yoga on the deck is so cute.
You guys went through some weather! Glad to hear and see that things went pretty well. And your furry kidlet is really enjoying it. Snow and cold is definitely HER kinda weather! All the best!
Something I didn't notice when I was watching on Patreon was the crazy whirly tails on those hanging fish (1:38) when the wind picked up! This is such an engrossing and exciting video and I just know I'm gonna watch it over and over👏🌈👍
Aww so glad you liked it!! Usually by the time I finish editing a video I’ve gone thru every second of it so many times that I feel like I don’t ever wanna see it again hahah, but i’ve watched this one a few more times myself! ❤️❤️😍
You can buy a heated cord and rap the insulation foam around that. Cord doesn’t get very hot. Just warm enough to keep lines from freezing. We’ve been using 1 for 7yrs now.
The rainbow was absolutely gorgeous! I love watching your fur babies antics. When our dog was still alive she would chomp at the bit to get into the snow. Sara and Brandon I love watching the both of you. I so look forward to seeing your new videos on Fridays. You all are wonderful people! Sara you can just send that sourdough bread to me and I guarantee it won't go to waste. My mother threw out a 250 year old sourdough starter because she thought it had mold on it. I was so very sad, no more sourdough pancakes or bread. Store bought just isn't the same. Stay warm you all.
Thank you! 🙏 oh noooo that is so sad about the starter! Kind of heartbreaking. The one I am using is 30yrs old, given by my neighbor, and I thought THAT was some pressure?! But 250 years?! omg 🙈
Just having had a warm 82 degree day down in New Zealand today, that was awesome fun to watch all of the snow and cold weather! Love the longer video legends. Keep up amazing vids, life and keep up keeping afloat 😅
Wow... I'm so glad the predictions of terrible winds didn't do more damage. Where you able to get in touch with the neighbor, and how did they fix there boat, I was so rooting for the flip of the boat, holding my breath like I was there actually helping 😂😂😂... Ya'l make the worst things look like "It's not that bad" So Cool, Calm and Collected❤ See yaaa next week👊🏾 27:41
We did get in touch with him eventually! He came over a few days later and brandon and a couple other guys helped him set a new anchor with new cable 🙌👏 Ahh they were soooo close! if the D-ring hadn’t broken off I think they would’ve had it!!
26:25, on my bus I only have 3/4 inch plywood floor over thin sheet steel, no insulation. In freezing weather, to keep Buddy's water bowl from freezing solid, I built a 6 inch tall shelf shaped like a little bench made out of live edge red cedar for his water bowl and dog food bowl to sit on. Now he just gets cold water👍
How cute & practical! Iko’s bowls are raised too, but really just for aesthetic & ergonomic purposes haha. Her water inside will never freeze luckily, the floors are cold but they ain’t THAT cold hehe

Years back " LIFE " magazine did an article on a storm that I want to say hit the ILL , IND area. ( I'm going by memory on the states ) They had received a substantial amount of rain over a large area. When you calculated the weight of water , 8 lbs. per gal . , it figured out to be +/- 800,000 lbs. It is a sobering thought to know that clouds going over your home have that much , and depending on the storm , more water in them . Just a thought that sticks with you when you thick about our world. All the best, Hal Stay well and stay dry.
So glad you came thru the storm all good!! Great video!! Iko is amazing. Kitas so love the cold and snow💖💖💖 Definitely a perfect 10 for the beautiful snow angel. Wouldn't be an awful idea to have Iko in a life jacket during unusual maneuvers and storms.
Thank you!! love our fluffy snow angel 😇🐶 life jacket couldn’t hurt but just hasn’t ever seemed necessary to us, she’s a good swimmer & it’s easy to grab her by her scruff to pull her back up onto the boat if need be! 🙏
Hi S&B! Winter sure does have its share of challenges for you when you live on the water! Watching Iko makes it a lot more fun doesn’t it? Pure joy! We can all learn from that! Our dogs love the snow too! You guys have a great week, stay warm and we’ll see you next Friday! T&C!
That’s right! Not much out there that’s more pure than the unfiltered joy of a dog (or kiddo) in the snow 🥲 in the end that’s the stuff in life that matters most!!
I had a dog just like Iko, he was a cross between a malamute and huskie, his parents were sled dogs in the bush in northern Canada. He loved the snow and cold and at 40 below 0 he would curl up out in the snow and go to sleep. Your dog playing made me think of him.
No prob! I add them as much for my own knowledge as for our non-US based viewers. Metric just objectively makes more sense (& the rest of the world uses it lol) so i’m trying to get a better feel for it! 😅 Thanks!! 🤗
You may want to install 4 eye bolts into the stud outside and hook up the bungee cords vertically to hold back your SUP against the wall. An idea to keep your SUP on dock.
I loved seeing Iko playing in the snow. The original snow angel! She is such a beautiful girl. ❤ I do envy your lifestyle, but I just don't think my old ass bones could do it in the cold like that. 😂 That nice pontoon boat would be a must. The original snow angel yesss! 🥹🥰 hahah I hear ya, I think based on the fact that we’re about the only ones out here.. most folks would agree with you! 😆 thanks so much!
Our Float Home went through some big storms being close to the Vancouver, BC coastline. We had some hairy nights. Usually super cold out and some of the worst storms.
I got one of those enclosed Pontoon Barges with 2 diesel heaters and 3 trap doors for fishing. I spent a week on it recently a few weeks ago on Cypress Lake with Snow freezing weather. It was nice. Caught a lot of Catfish. One problem I could not get the Boat out due to the slick freezing Boat ramp. Had to wait a few days to get it out. It is a 24' and I love it. It has 3 beds and a Kitchen and BBQ pit. Got Starlink and a Big Tv and a Predator just like yours.
PEX Supply Line Toilet Trick! I'm on county water with my bus I've been on since 2016, with 25' water hose above ground. The trick I learned to keep toilet tank free and clear in -6 degree weather... I use a toilet tank fill valve similar to a *Fluidmaster 400a anti-siphon universal toilet tank fill valve* Epoxied a magnet to the top of the float, and when I need to keep the toilet water running below freezing temps, I add a steel washer that will hold the float down. Then I turn the supply valve at the wall to adjust my flow rate. When the weather is a above freezing, I lift the lid, pull off the washer, and open the inlet valve. Or I'll add the steel washer at night, remove during the day... Often times in the winter, I just leave wall valve set the same... it simply fills the tank slower. *NOTE: I do realize I'm on in-ground septic system and you're on closed loop septic system that needs pumped out*
You manage to keep a positive attitude while you take care of your business and help others with theirs... I can only think of two worse jobs, being a pole climber for a utility company, or a fireman. I have to wonder what the plan is is the dog happens to slide into the water when playing? Can she swim to shore, or do you have a way to get her out of the water? We camp in the winter with the camper winterized, and carry enough filtered water to drink, cook, and keep refilling a gallon jug to flush the toilet.
Thank you! Yea if she slides into the water she can either swim to shore or we can pull her up into one of the dinghies, just depending on where she fell off and what makes more sense. It hasn’t happened yet though luckily! 🙏
Um mam plz before you get rid of your Frens, get you a couple of cuttings and put them suckers in some water ( save the pot) and by summer you my dear can start a new plant. From the old that is. I bet you already knew that though. Anyway as always great Vid. Hi Brandon and Aiko ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ ! Gosh i love living vicariously through you 3. 😊
I don't know I bought a grinder from Harbor Freight well over 35 to 40 years ago and it still works great its always works so think come to a little also when you buy tools so will break and some will last forever
With temperatures getting that low, is there danger of the reservoir freezing over? What would you do to get where you need to go if that happened? These videos have me mesmerized.
Those were definitely unusual temps, but even so, no way this lake would freeze over. It’s just too big/deep of a lake for a few days of a cold snap to freeze it, would have to be temperatures like that all winter or at least for a couple months. If it’s continually below freezing in NC for months at a time, the house would be the least of our worries… the world might just be ending! 🙈 That said, lots of folks with floating houses that live up north do live on lakes that freeze each winter - if it’s a thin layer of ice, they use bubblers to keep it from freezing around their house. If it’s thick, they just let it freeze and then walk out right on top the lake to get to their cars when they need to resupply. Pretty neat!
@@KeepingAfloatWiththeJoneses Thanks for the extended response! I asked because I grew up on Lake Superior with many parts freezing over during the winter months. I guess you could trade in a boat for a snowmobile if it ever happened there, lol.😀 Keep 'em coming.
is there any way to bring the yard hydrant up inside the house where you have heat ? Could you put a heat pump in with a submerged coil to get heat from the lake water?
I fear that you actually have an issue with the cold water line in your house. The cold water line that you showed outside feeds the water heater so it must not be frozen. Your pup is really liking the cooler temps, she's a hoot.
Does the lake ever freeze over? I will say that if I had a floating house I would have the generator hidden and set up so it could be started remotely so I would not have to go outside to start it?
I noticed when y’all took the pontoon boat out and let the bear out there was some kind of brick work on the beach… do you know the history behind the structure?
Good eye 👏 yes, that was part of the foundation for one of the buildings at an old mining site from back before the lake existed. There is a mine shaft just up the way from there in the woods, I believe I read that the building you see the ruins of was something like the cafeteria or bunkhouse for the employees working there. They were mining copper & gold.
@ That’s very interesting… how long has the Lake been there? We have always vacationed in the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock area and are brokenhearted to the devastation and loss suffered there😞
The dam was finished in 1944! Aw yes I grew up going to Lake Lure with my fam, it’s been so sad to see that area just all but unrecognizable 🥺 it’s a long road ahead but I have no doubt things will be built back better than ever one day ❤️🩹
She’s never fallen off before! 🙏 *knock on wood* It would upset her bc her face would probably get wet and she HATES that lol, but physically she’d be fine. she’d just swim to shore, or we could grab her and pull her up into the dinghy (whichever makes more sense based on where she fell)
Smart, Brave, Fun n fabulously adventurous,❤❤❤hope you find the closeup walk with GOD, HIS SON YESHUA AND HOLY SPIRIT, FOR THE GREATEST ADVENTURE, LOVE, STRENGTH, HOPE ❤❤❤
I’m loving it! 🥖 I think I caught the sourdough bug for sure hahah, I’m making pizza crust and brownies and all kinds of other things out of my starter too! 😅
In my Opinion i think that since Aiko (probably spelled wrong sorry) has put up with you guys in the summer months there on the lake, when & if you guys decide to move from the lake yall should concider Alaska or some place nice and cold for her sake. You know as a " Thanks Kid " 😂😂😂lol im just joking of course! ❤ i just keep leaving comments for engagement purposes. 😊

Use heat tracing on your waterline.
That said, lots of folks with floating houses that live up north do live on lakes that freeze each winter - if it’s a thin layer of ice, they use bubblers to keep it from freezing around their house.
I hate to sound weird but .I love storms.
They’re kind of exciting & invigorating!
Iko not ok 😅
Aw yes I grew up going to Lake Lure with my fam, it’s been so sad to see that area just all but unrecognizable 🥺 it’s a long road ahead but I have no doubt things will be built back better than ever one day ❤️🩹
Every time Iko was sliding I felt myself tense up. does she fall off the deck?
She’s never fallen off before! 🙏 *knock on wood*
It would upset her bc her face would probably get wet and she HATES that lol, but physically she’d be fine. she’d just swim to shore, or we could grab her and pull her up into the dinghy (whichever makes more sense based on where she fell)
I wonder why you don’t spend the night at the marina on nights like that.
Smart, Brave, Fun n fabulously adventurous,❤❤❤hope you find the closeup walk with GOD, HIS SON YESHUA AND HOLY SPIRIT, FOR THE GREATEST ADVENTURE, LOVE, STRENGTH, HOPE ❤❤❤
It's not all fun and games for sure. Girl, you are on that bread making.
I’m loving it! 🥖 I think I caught the sourdough bug for sure hahah, I’m making pizza crust and brownies and all kinds of other things out of my starter too! 😅
Pontoon doesn’t have enough horsepower to flip it.
We did flip it. The d -ring broke off the bow as it was rising up.

Is there ever a time that you miss living on land?

In my Opinion i think that since Aiko (probably spelled wrong sorry) has put up with you guys in the summer months there on the lake, when & if you guys decide to move from the lake yall should concider Alaska or some place nice and cold for her sake.
