Had to pause and scream **PREACH SISTER** at the top of my lungs when you dropped "not all friends are dnd friends and not all dnd friends belong in your campaign". THIS. ABSOLUTELY THIS. It is a HARD lesson learned but let me tell you what, keeping PEACE at the table SHOULD BE ONE OF IF NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT RUNNING A CAMPAIGN. 👏
Another thing for step 1: don’t be shy about inviting non DnD folks to the table! I invited my nail tech to a session one night on a whim. She loved it! So much, she’s our default DM now. She’s a hilarious and creative writer so it’s a perfect fit. My favorite campaign she’s run so far was in an urban fantasy setting that had a climatic battle in a big box store on Black Friday. The number of mimics disguised as household appliances made me slightly paranoid about doing chores or cooking for a while lol A highlight was goading the wizard into casting “fireball” in a hair salon🤣
i love that you're going in a new direction with a new channel. i am super interested in D&D but dunno where to even start. a video walk thru of how to find discords and people to RP with and stuff would be super helpful to my overthinking half autistic neurons
man i wish i had gotten this video when i wasn't already deep in the middle of my first campaign 😭😭😭 still this seems super useful and i'm hoping for the best lol!
INVALUABLE advice!!! As someone who has a lot of friends that are -addicted- very passionate about playing TTRPGs and who wants to DM some fun little sessions one day, this helped me a lot!
Such a great video! I'm really gonna have to step up my game so that I can attract players. Somehow, in my tiny hometown, we have like 6 different DMs 💀 Welp, time to bust out the "middle school acquintances" :P
as a middle child.... HEY! I will admit that's actually how I write. It's ironic that with my current group I found them online through either Reddit or Discord and we've been playing for almost two years now. Sometimes you just need to get lucky. I've been playing D&D for decades and agree with what you say here. One thing I would add is not to let your PCs walk all over you. If you make a decision, stick to it.
Just started DMing and my group is doing a haunted house. Legit had to boarderline tell them "Go in the dang house" cause they were trying to find ever reason to not go in the house. So heavy on knowing both the players and their characters. Im writing a homebrew campaign for them to do this year, but we definitely are having a few sessions of character building and learning so i can make edits. Legit one of them said "Um... we're black. We dont play with ghosts or haunted houses." 🤦🏿 Just go in the dang house so we can do the map 😤
I recorded this MONTHS ago before I got my new camera and before I shut down my Patreon so that's why it be like this ✨
Step 1: Make friends.
Ah fuck.

Definitely will be making videos about that for ya! 🖤
there's a few channels for finding players. I found my current four players that way and we've been playing almost two years now. In person!

I believe in you!! 🖤 Your first campaign will teach you SO MANY lessons to be honest.
Start:
Vicious cicle of doom
After 5 sessions:
Vicious cicle of goon

Channel change I'm with it. Glad to see you're back...

Back and here to stay! ✨
I mean, okay. You got me about my dad.
"Get friends". As a solo player, I laughed.
