@@callehellberg8076 he said round plate, not just plate. the round 1x1 plates have an indent at the bottom, which has just enough space for that little "triangle of doom".
This looks really great. I'm loving how clean and custom everything looks in this version of your city. The doorways of both of your buildings are my favorite part.
after living in a city with old buildings near train tracks, almost all building built in the early 1900s on the tracks had some sort of loading dock on the rail side for loading unloading things like a general store, or brick factories etc. a loading bay may give a good excuse to open one side of the building to the tracks so its not all just flat walls
Remember: It was entirely possible for buildings to have existed before any train lines have been added so having windows on a floor level next to the railway is not impossible. However, when that is the case, the building should look sufficiently at most 19th century or older. Since your building seems to go for a late 19th to early 20th century look, having no windows facing the railway is OK.
As a display model i think you can leave the back wall of building that are facing city center opened to show inside details. Or maybe you can create some “wall window” as jangbricks is doing in is acquarium.
I'm a 34 year old mother of 2. I sincerely hope my 4 year old kid grows up to be just like you. He loves Lego. Our favourite activity is (re)watching your "Top 10 Lego Building Ideas", listening to you soothing voice (I'm exposing him to English as we are Romanian) and making all those tiny wonders you have there. Thank you!🤗
I absolutely love this series and your layout! There’s only one small detail you might want to change: In my opinion the sidewalk at the railroad crossing is too narrow. Perhaps you could attach the signals to the buildings instead of placing them on the pavement?
When I was building in Lego, I was always putting secret doors and secret paths in every homes I have made. It was taking a lot of place. Every of my build was all futuristic with landing pad and "automatique" sliding doors in every rooms. I have even made some kind of motorized monorail to get the the landing pad once using a mecano motor because Lego wasn't that rich on this side at this time. I remember a secret box, with a secret system to open the door, using a spring from a pen and a tea ball with a metal ball as a counterweight. It was fully functional and automatic for the opening and when you closed the door by hand everything was going automatically in place to work again, nothing could be seen. My best success in secret things building. Futuristic and secret 2 major components in everything I have made 😁
I think it'd be a cool idea to have some of the edge buildings seem like they'd go past the borders so it's like a cutaway allowing viewers to easily see stuff going on inside and add depth that doesnt have to be disassembled to see. :)
I find it funny how the antic shop is right next to the train. My house is next to a train and everything rattles when a train comes by, and I’m not as close as the antic shop is to the train so I can only imagine
Yeah that’s bothering me too. All that expensive merchandise would be rendered worthless if a train passes by even once. I think he should move it to a different part of the city to be more logically sound.
Is a hotel build a possibility? You could go with a modern skyscraper theme or more of a tan brick kind of thing. Just an idea but I think it could be cool (if modern style u need a roof top pool!)
Dude, I have to say, this is the most unique LEGO city I've ever seen! The unconventional way you're creating the roads is really cool! Can't wait to see the rest of the city!
I like that you have shown the city does not need to be put directly on the baseplates and you can have a substructure. Watching this, I did some thinking. If I ever want to build a Lego city, the substructure needs to be at least 4 bricks high. It takes 3 bricks to place most gears, especially the bevel gears. If I want the axles to be able to cross, it needs to be 4 bricks high. The city would have a lot of gimmicks.
Right now I’m building my own Lego city and you give me so much inspiration! I’m so grateful to be able to watch your videos and get inspiration for my own city! 😀🥲
For the small hole. Put a DBG 1x2 slope "above" the end of the white plate. Then mask the most of it off with LBG plates and tiles on top.. Use the hands to flip the plate next to the road or leave the bottom showing.
That little hole u have in the road. Put one or two Harry Potter wands in it, so it sticks up like grass. I have done it before and it looks really good!
sick!!!!!! idea: for the antique shop building, you should make 2 floors of antique shop, 1 floor residence from the shop owner and the last floor (under the roof) a storage... and that other building may be a bucher with 2 residences on the next floors. your lego city is btw the best one i have ever seen! i really like all the custom work you have done in the first city but this one already looks 1000 times better! and may be you can look at lego ideas for modular building insperation =D
My suggestion would be some street vendors, easy to do and they break up the monotony of the pavement a lot I love these updates, they're very calming, and you're very proficient in what you're doing, good job!
for the gap at 7:08 you could use a 1x1 bracket (LEGO Minfigure Neck Bracket Thinner Back Wall (42446)) or (LEGO Plate 1 x 1 with 1.5 Bracket (Down) (36841)) with a drain on top, hard to tell size wise but you may be able to have it sit snug there or slightly loose
Find an old decal sheet, and the "negative" space, the sticker material that doesn't get used, should have plenty of white decal material you could cut and use to make a road stripe for that "triangle of doom" in your angled road.
Suggestion, maybe leave the walls for the buildings on the outside of the model open, that way you can see what’s going on inside. If you don’t work for LEGO already, you should apply. Great looking start for a city, very creative.
Don’t know why, but the idea of some sort of bridge running over the railroad between two buildings (i imagine a look similar to escape ladders on the back sides of the buildings) seems fun. It highlight differences in height and makes space above the railroad more interesting. Also adding all the wiring for electrical trains might look good and be easy to implement as there is only a little straight section in your city. Looking forward for the upcoming updates🔥🤘🏻

One of my suggestions is adding power lines if it doesn’t interfere with the rest of the build
I don't think there are that many overhead power lines in English cities. At least, not that I have seen when I was there.

You could stick a small flower stem (maybe part Nr. 37695) in the hole at the street. So it looks like nature has broken the street.
