Bates is the absolute epitome of a gentleman. He is helpful, professional and hardworking, but when push comes to shove he will protect those he loves, which includes his employer and best friend, Robert. He also will not hesitate to stand up to himself at the right times, never in front of the family or making a scene, small quips here and there, and a one on one confrontation.
I'm soooooooo thankful that Lord Grantham kept Bates from leaving. God knows WHAT would have happened to him. This sealed a deep respect for Lord Grantham for me.
I wish I could find a man like John Bates. He's so tender and sweet with Anna, but God help anyone who messes with her. If he had gotten his hands on that bastard Green, holy crap!
I adore Downton, The Anna & John story, or Bates if you will really touched me. I adored this storyline, the soundtrack music, when they are happy together just melts me. Their love for each other through thick and thin,,, brilliantly written. Great ITV 3 are repeating daily. Just adore this couple, their charactors, I could go on. Hope the movie coming this September will continue their love story.
I absolutely adore Mr. Bates! I hope Brendan Coyle will be in more films or shows that we can see in the US! I've search for everything I can find on Netflicks, Britbox and Acorn to find other places to watch him.
I think that is story of the upstairs and downstairs is a good idea for young children to be able see it like in old days so thanks for you all the good work.
Yes, Kathy, Bates had a tough side, but I think it was more genuine hurt when he found the device. Also, in those days why else would a woman need something like that. Remember, after Anna told him it was Mary's, he still found it hard to believe that the device was Mary's since it was almost unbelievable for him that any woman would use such a thing.
You know they are going to ruin them in this new movie! They finish off the last season with them living happily ever after, but I just know they’re going to put them through some drama in this new movie coming out next month!
Lots To Learn Lady Edith found out, wrote the Turkish delegation in London in order to “let them know what happened to their countryman.” Word got out from then and that is what made Lady Mary social poison. I don’t think there was any other servant than Anna who saw, maybe Daisy. yes, Daisy saw, told Edith, who blabbed.
Kathy Edens Edith found out from Daisy, who saw Anna and Mary and Cora carrying the body. Edith then wrote to the Turkish embassy, and I think Vera found out as she was Lady Flintshire’s maid (she heard the gossip from her husband possibly, who was in government)
Wow as famous as upstairs downstairs was in the seventies and eighties. It turns out Downton Abbey was really upstairs downstairs but with production values that were through the roof and actually writing from Julian fellowes that was even better than the really good writing of the original upstairs downstairs I guess is that the second movie is not nearly as successful as the first and if no one knows this it is completely due to the pandemic like if you people in England don't know don't credit it from it being an inferior movie it's actually not, it's the fact that people you just do not going to movies anymore. Not movies like Downton Abbey. It all honesty, your box office was far from a failure just not the success the original movie was. If it will not keep your producers from making a next movie a third movie I actually think it will perform better than the second movie because by that time I think even though maybe attendance will never be what it once was it will improve and hopefully besides that you can find another streaming service type revenue intro to making this movie so please do because your fans like me want it
My eyes tear up when Anna is reeling and Mary says, "Isn't she marvelous" … and Bates looks at Anna with such love and says, "Yes, she is marvelous."
I love the way Mr.Bates adores, loves and respects Anna. Such a gentleman, protective and powerful when protecting what’s his

I absolutely LOVE Brendan Coyle!! I will sorely miss him & Downton Abbey :(

I love these two!
The relationship every woman dreams of right? Sigh.
Well, me anyway.
I wish I could find a man like John Bates. He's so tender and sweet with Anna, but God help anyone who messes with her. If he had gotten his hands on that bastard Green, holy crap!
I AGREE. I love Bates, such a good person, but oh dear, he could be tough!!
It's amazing how a man who is neither goodlooking nor "rugged" can be quite that attractive.
Drop-dead gorgeous. Wonderful.
@Marianne yes , he is definitely rugged in his prison clothes without his hair all slicked down !
All about how you carry yourself man all about how you carry yourself
Really really well done!!! My favorite character...
I really liked the character Mr Bates. I felt sorry for him even though that’s not what he wanted.
I want me a Mr BATES 😂❤
Late to the party but I adore Mr. Bates and Anna!!!!
I also love both Brendan and John Bates.
Brendan played a very similar part as Robert Timmons in Lark Rise to Camberford

Fine, fine actors.
I love this show all my friends love it too! 🎉❤ may they make more movies of it
a brilliant character
I adore Mr. Bates.
Bates...*sigh*...If I could give a man a reason to smile that way...wow...

I always thought that Bates had something to do with Mr. Green’s death; even though his alibi is proven….
Bates was a good man but he did have a dark side. I didn't like how he didn't believe Anna that the birth control device was not hers.

Oh Mistah Betts!
Oh I didn't know he had Scottish blood. Knowing his caracter, I should have guessed. Trust the Scots to be honest and honourable.
Mr. Darcy eyes at 8:22
I want a Bates in my life
Mr John Bates my FAVORITE
He managed fine without his cane while in prison but needed it when at Downton?

Nope
If I remember right both movies, Anna and Bates are still happy no extremely big drama
Cora would not be in New movie unless her husband directed it
Is it just me or did Lady Mary tell Anna that her husband is a stud?
TheMAN!!!!
Is there a "Mr Carson version"?
Good idea!
Andrea Majoros yes there is
Which staff member saw the body being carried that night ? Who told Vera about it?

It was poor Daisy, she has a big mouth, BUT Edith twisted her arm
I don't think it was ever explained how Vera got the information.
I believe the staff member was Daisy.
Kathy Edens

Ok
