    Thank you so much for your detailed and holistic elucidation on abstract thinking: What it is, what it requires, how and where it is used, how it enables expertise in one domain to open up our understandings of other domains, etc. Your ability to connect the dots that appear mostly unrelated using a diverse set of examples is superb.

    Hi Zoltan, this was definitely helpful in regard to visualizing "abstract". I've never had to actually process anything in an "abstract" sense if you will, but I feel empowered that I should and that it will help with growth mindsets depending on how it's used as a tool. Thank you

    Hi Zoltan, thank you very much for taking the time to create this video. I especially liked the test at the end. Mind blowing! I didn’t check, but do your other videos detail the specific skills needed and how to improve/develop them? My challenge is making generalizations and understanding the bigger picture. I get caught in the specifics. Thank you ❤️

      Thank you, L Bits, for the acknowledgement. Well, I have 45 videos in the "abstract thinking" playlist. And especially in the 38 videos in the "Abstract thinking tools" series I talk about different methods to develop you skills. However, you need to develop your specific knowledge in your specific domain to develop your abstract thinking in that field. For example, if you want specific abstract thinking development in biology, you need to know a lot of details in biology.
      And most of my other videos in other topics are mindset related so they deal with the big pictures, like in social skills, relationship, emotion, communication etc. Did you have something more specific in your mind when you asked your question?

    • @ZoltanGregorHK
      @ZoltanGregorHK  4 роки тому +5

      I create almost all of my videos outdoor, sometimes in a park and sometimes in a busy street. It is more interesting, more dynamic and the lightning is better than at home.. It is also a good practice for me not to be distracted by the environment and being exposed to a judging audience on the spot. And sometimes interesting things happen in the street. And I want to show the life, people and streets in Hong Kong.

    Hi, Zoltan! thanks for your explanation, it's helping me with my process of developing abstract thinking. Though, I still have doubts on the very last option "14 is correct because it is the only answer where only straight lines are used in the digits of the numbers in the answers"
    Since this is a visual approach of the abstract thinking "straight lines", what happened with the number 7 in the initial sequence? if I take the reference from your video the 7 has a curve on its "diagonal line". Of course, now I'm writing to you this comment I can see that in this comment font, the number 7 just have straight lines. Thanks and greetings from Colombia!

      The key idea is that in multiple choice tests, beside the obvious solution, other answers could be correct, too by a logic that the test creator did not think of.

    I have a random question, would it be risky to choose the other options other than 10 in an abstract reasoning test? Or does this variation get factored? Could it also be that the abstract reasoning test is designed to get the most basic thinking? I ask because in other videos I have watched, 10 would be the recommended answer

    • @ZoltanGregorHK
      @ZoltanGregorHK  4 роки тому +5

      This video is not about how to answer the question if the test is flawed like in the example.
      If you are the test creator / administrator, be aware that other answers can be correct, too, so do not just make a multiple choice IQ test but ask or let people explain their answers.
      And if you are forced to take a test like this, and you are not allowed to explain your answer or choice, do not take the test but challange the system by asking them how they can know that there is only one possible correct answer for each question.
      Or just walk away from that stupid organisation that does not understand that there can be multiple correct answers.
      And yes, you can play safe and choose the obvious answer, too.

    • @MrTheelda
      @MrTheelda Рік тому

      He introduced 4 abstractions in order to show it is possible that all those numbers are correct answers. The abstraction is the rule around which your focus is, when you are trying to answer the question, using the available numbers. The rule is to find attributes which can connect those 3 numbers in the question with each other. The rules he came up with is 1. the numbers in the question are 3 numbers away from each other if we focus on their numerical values. 2. the numbers in the question are 1 number away from each other if we are focusing on the fact, how many letters they are consisting of. 3. the numbers in the question accept 9 as a solution if our focus is, that 9 is the only available number among the possible answers which is one digit just like the numbers in the question. 4. the numbers in the question are built up visually from lines in which case 14 is a correct answer because 14 is the only other number among the possible answer which only has lines as visual building units. I hope this will clarify it a bit.

      Hi Kizito Onyeagusi. Are you asking about my IQ test problem at the end of the video? If yes, I explained there why all the four offered answers can be correct, not only the obvious one. The main problem with multiple choice IQ and other tests is that a person can find another logic that is also correct other than the one the test creator has in mind.

      Yes, details are lost - when it is not important for someone. Like in programming, the functions, classes, modules. You do not want to go into the details of a function. That would take for ever to understand. You just want to use by entering the input parameters to get the result or output.
