I grew up down the road from where David Foster had a home. In the mid-1980s, this made us kids feel special. Now I know why. The man had the most epic hair. And given his numerous marriages, he clearly had a way with the ladies.
As a Calgarian, thank you Mr. Foster for writing such a wonderful song for one of the highlights in our city's history. Hearing this song brings back many happy memories of that time.
I used to play this as a champion wake-up call, before stumbling my way trough to the bathroom and realize by looking into the mirror that my champion days had gone.
I heard this in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics ABC coverage and thought it was wonderful but I never heard it again until I watched the the Netflix's David Foster: Off the record and heard the closing music again which was that and I love it. I now have it on UA-cam. composed and I loved but never knew the name until I saw that show.
Still remember hearing this on the radio in 1988 just about a week before the Olympic Winter Games began. It blew me away then and it still does today. Great song!!
+Mr. Nobody If you like this one, I am sure you have heard his rendition of the Christmas song "Carol of the Bells." That one blew me away and it still does.
+senorkaboom +Mr. Nobody You should have David Foster: The Christmas Album if you don't already. In addition to that song, the best ever versions of "O Holy Night" and "The First Noel" and an awesome version of "Grown-Up Christmas List". Also, "Flight Of The Snowbirds" (I think of Avatar when i play that) from the self-titled compilation album, which also has a rare David Foster vocal on "Who's Gonna Love You Tonight".
I don't remember the Calgary Olympics, I was born in 1982 so I was super young, but man this song just reminds me of my childhood. I guess it must be ingrained in my subconscious.
Lived in Calgary during the '88 Olympics. It was the best 2 weeks ever. Had tickets to a lot of the events.... including Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Athletes from all the different countries walking around downtown... never get away with that now. Never been prouder to be a Calgarian and Canadian. 🇨🇦🇨🇦

I was a southern Ontario kid in grade 5 in 1988. We watched the opening ceremonies in class. I remember going home and telling my mom I wanted to go to this magical place called ‘Calgary’. 10 years later, I moved to Alberta for a summer job at a mountain resort. Calgary was everything I thought it could be lol

Foster whipped this one up for his home country's Winter Olympics, and came up with a hit single in both Canada and the US. Still a great instrumental.
The 88 Olympics were epic and this song suits that. Vancouver, while bigger, didn't have the same vibe. I attended both. The spirit of Calgary has to be seen and experienced for yourself to truly appreciate the culture of that city.
I just saw him in concert a few weeks ago. He opens his Hitman Tour with this song. He walks out to "Flight of the Snowbirds," sits down at his piano, and then plays this. It is UNBELIEVABLE!

1988, a life-changing year in more ways than I can describe. This song was part of it, not the decision to make the changes but more of a sense of energy and optimism that was justified. Now I'm old and looking back on those halcyon years and the even better ones that followed it with gratitude.
This music is inspired. I had the good fortune to work as a temp at A MAJOR RECORD COMPANY FIELD OFFICE in Mass. USA. They used to stack demo records of artists in the center of the room, like the packing material pile when you receive a bunch of new equipment. So, n00b me asks, "What's uhhh, what are those records, there?" And I hear music. "OH, THOSE ARE JUNK. THEY"RE GOING TO BE CRACKED". "YOU MEAN...I mean, you mean I can, like, take some, and it's no problem?" NO PROBLEM AT ALL. I lost my damn mind. There must have been 200 different artists at all stages of career. Seriously, everything but "HOT HITS' might be in that pile. I almost couldn't carry my selections in one trip. Srsly, , I could just see over the stack to walk. Kinda heavy, but I made it to the ride without incident. I bet you will find Foster was on Warner or Electra or Atlantic records If you can find "The Christians" (surname) "Forgotten Town", it's catchy. David Foster's 'Winter Games" was one of the albums in the stack. I have treasured just KNOWING about the piece, because I was newly married when this event occurred, and tv was second-rate entertainment ATT ;-) I found several artists that never 'made it', but became a part of an amazing era in my life. Thanks, gville612, for posting this video! I have the VHS version of the entire album, but have yet to convert it to digital format. Thanks for helping out a lazy man!!
Best Olympic theme ever...for the best Winter Games in history. My home town of Vancouver was never able to recreate the magic of Calgary, 1988. Perhaps was the fact I came here during that time and things were just perfect then...well, perfect for a 10 year old. Theme of my Childhood. Expo '86 and Calgary '88.
Truly a masterpiece
Anyone from 2024?
Will see he's playing this song in 3 days! It will be my 2nd David Foster's concert for 2 years in a row, and it's still worth watching!
I grew up down the road from where David Foster had a home. In the mid-1980s, this made us kids feel special. Now I know why. The man had the most epic hair. And given his numerous marriages, he clearly had a way with the ladies.
Such an inspirational song and one that continues to inspire Canadians! Thanks David Foster! I never get tired of listening to it!
As a Calgarian, thank you Mr. Foster for writing such a wonderful song for one of the highlights in our city's history. Hearing this song brings back many happy memories of that time.
Nice to win one of the big ones, eh?
I mean, it ain't exactly "Dirty Water" by the Standells, but it'll do.
I used to play this on my Walkman as my airplane lifted off from the runway....it always made it feel like an epic flight everytime I departed. 😊🥰
love what you had to say !
I used to play this as a champion wake-up call, before stumbling my way trough to the bathroom and realize by looking into the mirror that my champion days had gone.
That woulda been a cool way to die... but I’m glad you didn’t! 😝
Charlie Tango, that is something that I would totally do. Right on!
Back in the 1980s, used this music as the theme music played to the crowd at airshows for our three-ship formation show!

1988 till 2022. Never faded.

Perfect music, perfect video
My favorite David Foster song!

さわやかな曲ですが、彼特有の4度、6度の和音に苦しめられたのと、
ピアノ主体なので細かいフレーズでもしっかりとしたタッチで弾かなければならず、
苦労の連続でしたが、今思えばよい経験になりました。

Amazing composition and brings back fond memories. 💕
I got a cassette recording of this song in 1989 from my Grade 8 band teacher. I used to listen to it all the time and still love it now!
