  • Studio drummer Eddie Bayers, singer-pianist Ray Charles, pedal steel guitarist Pete Drake, and the mother-daughter duo the Judds, officially joined the Country Music Hall of Fame on Sunday, May 1, in a star-studded Medallion Ceremony at the Museum’s CMA Theater. It was an evening filled with once-in-a-lifetime musical performances and heartfelt, and at times tearful, testimonials.
The death of Naomi Judd on the eve of the induction ceremony gave the event a muted sense of mourning, tender reflection, and open-hearted fellowship. The audience observed a moment of silence in memory of Judd and two other Hall of Fame members who died since the last Medallion Ceremony in November: radio and television personality Ralph Emery and studio pianist Hargus “Pig” Robbins.
Those presenting musical highlights from the inductees’ careers included Country Music Hall of Fame members Garth Brooks and Vince Gill. They were joined by Elizabeth Cook, Bettye LaVette, Wendy Moten, Carly Pearce, Tommy Sims, Trisha Yearwood, and the duos the War and Treaty (Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Blount Trotter) and Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Country Music Hall of Fame member Marty Stuart led the audience in the ceremonial closing song, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”
Following longstanding custom, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, chosen by the inductee, welcomed each new member. For the class of 2021 - whose official induction was delayed due to the pandemic - Charlie McCoy inducted Drake, Gill inducted Bayers, Ricky Skaggs inducted the Judds, and Ronnie Milsap inducted Charles.

I love the fact that the ceremony and the Country Music Hall of Fame is about the music. No over the top costumes, no one went out of their way to talk about race, politics or causes, just talented deserving artists coming together to recognize their own. Simple and Profound

I would be in total agreement with this. On an episode of the Johnny Cash Show where Ray peformed Johnny was very effusive in his praise for Ray, telling him that Nashville would 'welcome him with open arms back' for 'bringing country music around the world.' I would urge you to seek out Ray's performance of Do I Ever Cross Your Mind from Jazz Jamboree 1984 for ample proof of his mastery of country music, and more thereafter.

Right then I died inside. So sad. Just so sad. I lost my mama when I was 9 and she had the same class and grace and singing voice as Miss Naomi and that’s why I loved her so much. I couldn’t have my own mama, but I could love Mama Judd like I loved my own. My mama couldn’t stay either, even though she tried her hardest, just like Mama Judd did. I hope they found peace that they couldn’t find here.

"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be. And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; how do we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:1-6

Be baptized as a sign of your devotion to Christ. Say the prayer for the salvation of the soul when you are ready to dedicate your life to Christ. Repent of your sins and ask Jesus for forgiveness. Vow to follow Jesus for the rest of your life…

Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a grain of mustard seed. It is the smallest of all seed, but when it grows it becomes the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of air come and make nests in its branches.
And he said he who has ears to hear let him hear.

Ashley has had some hard times the last few years! She had a bad broken leg in Africa and it took forever like 10 or 12 hours for her team guides to carry her out on a stretcher! No meds! She had a bad time with that leg! I'm guessing but I'd just about bet she is resistant to alot of medication also and has a negative reaction just like her mom! She looks so much like her mother and has alot of the same mannerisms. She has been crying alot too! I have too! When you lose someone that has overcome so much and been so strong and stood up to the fight of the mental part and been such and inspiration to other people fighting just as hard! She was an icon, our fighter in chief on bad days I'm sure she wanted to hide and stay home! Like she said, You don't know unless you've been there! Rest in Peace mama Judd! Thankyou for the wonderful songs you've written and shared with us! Thankyou for your love and inspiration and sharing your daughters with us! You will never be forgotten and your songs will be handed down and shared with our children and grandchildren! Now my Judd daughters you take whatever time you need to give yourself to heal! We will be here waiting for you! Wynonna I know what a workhorse you are! Thankyou Cactus for being there! Take some family time! This has been a horrible loss for all of you and Larry! I'm so stunned I couldn't begin to imagine what all of you must feel! We love you and will do anything to help you! Ashley please be careful! You are so much like your mom! Sensitive and easily hurt! Be good to yourself! We love you!

This is going to sound harsh, but it’s true…
Suicide is such a selfish act. Wynonna and Ashley are suffering because of a choice their mother made to leave them before her time. I’m sorry she couldn’t hang on until the event, maybe that would have helped her weather the storm in her mind.
I hope Naomi found the peace she sought, the faith tradition she espoused doesn’t accept suicide. Now her loved ones must try to navigate these unchartered waters. The dreaded firsts are coming… the first holidays, special events, etc. I know Naomi struggled with mental illness, but she also knew the solution to seek help when things became overwhelming (she wrote about it in her book). I wonder why she didn’t follow her own advice? The world has been deprived of a great woman, and a wonderful talent, and her family has lost its matriarch.
My thoughts and prayers to the Judd family, and I hope Naomi found the peace of the G-d she stated she believed so ardently in. May her memory be a blessing to her family, and those who cared most about her.
