    I’ve had 1 of these and 2 of the $20 dollar cameras for over a year now and I LOVE THEM. For $30 bucks the imagine is insanely good. Even at night the imagine is pretty good!! I actually, have one of these cameras outside of a window exposed to the weather and haven’t had one issue with it yet. (Knock on wood!!). :).
    The only complaint I have is that my $30 cam keeps losing Wi-Fi connection several times a day and it’s the one that is closest to my router/modem. It kinda is starting to drive me crazy when I’m trying to see what my dogs are getting to when know one is home. The other two cams hardly ever lose Wi-Fi signal.
    I most definitely recommend these security cameras!!! For the price the imagine is unbelievable... You won’t be disappointed. Lol and I don’t know work for this company and I don’t know anyone that works for them. I just like the cameras!!

      have you contacted Wyze yet ? They are eager to please and I bet you could get a new cam if you pushed your issue !!! Jus say'n :) PS..I've had pleasant conversations with them in the past.

    I like how this can use ifttt. I think I will use this to save money by using the motion sensor to trigger lights via smartthings when entering dark rooms at night! And it costs less or about the same as a motion sensor that pairs up directly to smartthings. And it records video!

    I really like the cameras themselves. Some thought have obviously been put into them. They could have cheapened out and made the stand just a plastic one and have you plug in the USB charger in the back of the camera itself. But they didn't, and it's details like that I really appreciate. I don't however, like the idea that all my video is going through an app that has its own set of servers. Just let me use them as local IP cameras. I've also read now that users are detecting the Wyze app is sending info to servers supposedly not affiliated with Wyze. This might be something to look into Lon. Thanks again for another great upload.

      they are pieces of shit if you can even get a single one to connect to your wifi it would be a fucking miracle ,i have not been able to get ANY of them to even connect to my network , useless crap

    • @urbnized
      @urbnized 5 років тому +2

      You have to connect them to a 2.4ghz connection and not on the 5ghz connection. Try that.

    • @andreamitchell4758
      @andreamitchell4758 5 років тому +2

      +Jon Urban thanks , 2nd level support was able to find my problem for me , yes i was using 2.4ghz ,the problem was that my router had added an invisible space to the end of my SSID name that i could not see,i did not type the space at the end of the SSID when i named the 2.4 ghz band on my router ,the router added it there automatically for some reason ,the when i went to the wyze forums it said that the app sometimes will add a space at the end of the SSID when it autofills in the SSID and it said just delete the space ,i kept deleting the space and it still was not working ,because the space was actually there ,i had to go into my routers wifi settings and change the SSID for the 2.4ghz band by deleting the space at the end of the SSID
      then it finally worked , the tech said it has something to do with the QR code not being able to process special characters,that is why all my other clients would connect but i could not setup the cam
      ended up being up a huge pain in the ass because then i had to put in the new SSID for every one of my other devices and i have like 30 clients,i had to update wifi credentials for all of them to reflect the new SSID , but i m still glad this happened this way because i have never been able to get rpi's to connect to my wifi either i think this might be why no matter how i edited my WPA_supplicant file my r pi's would never connect to my router , because i was not enter that space at the end of the SSID
      the 1st level tech guy could not figure it out ,we tried everything the second level tech guy found the problem in like a minute
      this product does have good support
      my router is an Asus so if anyone else has issued and has an Asus router this could be the problem, not sure why my router adds that space at the end
      really glad this happened because i would have never figured out that space was there and i would have went insane trying to set up my pi's an pi zero w's
      like before when i tried for 2 weeks straight to get my pi to connect
      editing my WPA_supplicant file every which way and changing random router settings to no avail

    @lontv how was the video quality as far as speed when you were away from your home on the app viewing the live feed through your phone?? Was it glitchy and jumpy?? Also if the night vision turns on is there lights in front of the cam that turn on?? Is there a setting to turn those lights off?? And if I choose to cover those lights with some black tape will night vision still work??

    • @JV-wl6ex
      @JV-wl6ex 3 роки тому

      It is a limited Daisy chain but you are mostly correct. Their regular indoor camera will support only one additional camera which limits your options but if you have two cameras that could be mounted in a single area pointing in different areas this could minimize extra cabling which is a plus

    I plan to get one but I'm only going to put it by my front door because I have a smsrt doorbell thatsv pretty good and has motion detection but it drains the battery so going to plug one of the cams directly into a wall so if someone doesn't ring my doorbell will still get motion detection I did consider putting one in my house but I'm very unsure of this as I don't know much about their service and whether its encrypted and secure which I doubt at this cheap price but if I do decide to put one in my hallway I plan to connect it with a smart pug with a routine so it switches on when I leave my house and turns off when I arrived home so I keep some privacy and the only person that would be on my camera inside my home that is someone that should not be there so it's kind of done it's job

    I really like the idea of an inexpensive, useful device. Sadly, I will be returning mine. Wyze requires I give up all my privacy and by accessing all of my information. Photos, files, contacts, etc. Why? I find no logical reason for them to require it for any good reason. Other than spamming my contacts with sales pitches, or worse, spying on me. It's too bad. I had high hopes for them. But not at the cost of my privacy. I'm returning mine tomorrow.

    Excellent review. I just got the wyze cam V2 but might return it for the Pan version, given that the extra motion capabilities are probably worth the $10 extra. it's too bad the motor can be heard and it's bigger. If you mount it upside down and flip the image 180 via the app, does left and right panning get flipped too?

    So far your video is very informative. It has given me more information on this system than wyze has supplied. My only problem is, when the video goes narrow and your LON.TV "moving logo" appears on each side of the video the "moving logo" drives my vertigo nuts. I can't watch your video when the logo is moving. I have to keep putting up pieces of paper to hide the logo just so I can watch your video. It would be great if the logo was stationary. I have 9 minutes to go. Hope I can finish watching it. If not I'll just close my eyes and listen. Thanks for the information.

      the videos are actually being stored in AWS (amazon web servers), witch is safe because, well, its amazon.

      @@travisshopp4079 that's not necessarily true. You can setup a poorly configured security system based in AWS. AWS just provides the infrastructure, it's up to the company to make sure things between the client and server are encrypted or encrypted on the server.

  • @seouljah760

    Lon, have you looked into flashing OpenIPC on your Wyze cam? People are doing this to bypass the cloud restrictions. This let's you use a NAS and other apps with your cameras, among other things.

    • @TimSedlmeyer
      @TimSedlmeyer 6 років тому

      OpenIPC is just a ripoff of other opensource projects that adds no value but tries to sucker money put of people. If you want to replace the firmware on this camera look at github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks. The Wyse camera is the same as the Xiaomi Dafang camera except for the wifi driver used. The Dafang Hacks project supports both.

      I don't think these Wyzecams support that. The Xiaomi versions do.

    Returning mine. When using to look outside through a window the camera uses a small light for night vision that reflects back at the camera making the picture viewing useless. Surprised you didn’t mention this.

      Your wish has been granted. You need their hub for every 4 outdoor cameras and they’re wireless except when they will need to be charged. They claim the internal battery will last 3-6 months and your phone app will inform you when your amperes is getting low. Not too bad for the price!!

      You could do it by building a simple power source. You need to find the plug online (or an old one from something else) that is compatible, then open the camera and hack the power on. Use alkalines as the power supply, it will run on 6v (4 AA's). Very simple hack.
