Bregman in a pitcher-friendly park could be pretty rough, at least without a pretty big change in approach. He’s a pulled fly-ball merchants who doesn’t actually hit the ball that hard, he’s in his 30s, it’s likely to be a lot of money for his decline years-as a Mets fan, I take a hard pass. Outside of a hitter-friendly park (particularly in LF), it feels like you might as well just write a bunch of “F7”s into the scorecard and call it a day.
could a team immediately extend sasaki after signing him w bonus pool money? sry if this is a dumb question but it feels like teams on the outskirts of signing him could j promise subsequent extension amounts and circumvent the ifa process a bit to tip the scales in their favor.
@@Mr91JmayI don’t know if the team that signs him would have to wait quite that long (3 years), though I suppose it would matter how big a hypothetical extension is. I think after the 2026 season is probably safe (maybe even in-season), since Sasaki would’ve been eligible to get a Yamamoto-like deal if he’d waited two more years to be posted anyway. His team would almost certainly have to let his first year play out, at a minimum, and if he has a great rookie year, a pre-arb extension seems like it’d be easier to justify (one year doesn’t seem like enough to me, but I’ve heard a couple of industry people mention it). It would be a bit suspicious if Sasaki’s first year is kinda meh, and his team offers him a huge extension anyway. Also, Sasaki and his agent Joel Wolfe know how much team payrolls are (as do the rest of us), which owners have been willing to offer megadeals to pitchers, whether certain teams like to extend to extend their young players/pitchers versus letting them get to free agency, or trading them before their arb salaries get expensive (hello, Rays), etc. So depending how important all that is to Sasaki, that would probably eliminate a bunch of teams right off the top. 🤷🏽♂️
Aaaaaand Blake Snell signs with the Dodgers for $182mm/5. I liked him as a fit for the Mets too, because he misses bats, and a megadeal for Burnes or especially Fried scares me. I suspect Burnes will get at least $250mm/7, and Fried at least $200/6. The Mets lack high-end position player prospects, but they have some depth, plus a couple of post-hype guys (Baty and Mauricio, arguably even Álvarez), so I’m hoping they can somehow put together a package good enough to pry Garrett Crochet from the White Sox-but the Dodgers or Red Sox will likely beat them out.
The Mets won't become 'penny pinchers' if they land Soto. Starting rotation and bullpen still needs lots of help. On that chart we were viewing, the Mets just dropped $173 mil in payroll!
DVR’s rendon for mccormick trade makes way too much sense.. then chas will continue to turn into a pumpkin and rendon will turn into a .285 hitter with 22 hrs
Like I see the attempt in trying to get to make baseball seem harder as a sport to the anatomy like E-sports but 23 is not old in any sense pls cmon it’s making baseball players look bad in comparison to other sport athletes
I’m sorry Roki sasaki is 23 and we’re talking about the aging process with him because of why??? Am I missing something and they quan sotto being 26 is now old???😂be a little fr now come on
I've been crazy busy lately, but I definitely missed listening to Rates & Barrels. Hope I can continue to tune in more again
At least this one made it to UA-cam, unlike last Friday's.
Eno Sarris should get some free tix to citi field for these predictions

Highly doubt it MLB has warned teams against doing things like that in the past
No MLb would cancel the deal and likely ban the GM, think they need to wait for at least he hits arbitration to extend him
@ oh ok thanks

If When Soto goes for a triple crown next season; I start hearing “and he’s doing this at the age of 26!” I’m gonna cringe😂
As long as he does it as a Met, I’m into it
Is this Ancient Aliens meets baseball????
It’s only 3 teams in MLB smh

Pitchers who throw 100+ have a shorter shelf life, right?
Between the extensive injury history and declining stuff it seems fairly evident why
Pretty anti Canada episode 😂 jays are spending big this off season.
And will still finish last in the division
Hopefully soto lands in Philly
Spending big and still circling the drain. 😂
Anything over 210 million you are starting to get into the tax issue so this should be included in your numbers.
