@@donpedi4755 This maybe a strange question but how do you decide what songs are to be played in? Like you said you played this one in EAE. I really like that you play the melody string. I've got so much to learn but can play a good many hymns using the melody string by ear. Does any of your future classes teach this? Thanks so much
@@1966Marshall1 Basically, The tuning is determined by the key a tune is traditionally played in. For melody drone style, once you know the key, then the tuning will depend on where the scale begins. For example, in the key of D, there are choices. The scale in DAD starts open. The scale for DAA starts on the third fret. If a tune is in Dm it could be tuned in DAC, or DAG. The other keys have similar choices. These are just some variations on tuning. I do cover tunings in my classes. At my "Way of the Dulcimer Retreats," we go over tunings in great detail.
@@donpedi1197 Thank you for the explanation. Maybe I will be able to find one of your future classes. I would like to learn what you explained. I think I'm at a stump with my playing. By the way love the area you live. My aunt lives a few miles from you. I love that area. I try to go through Marshall a few times a year. My son is names Marshall because of the name of the town. I born in that area but moved away when i was in grade school. Most of my family lived in that area but have passed away now. i was looking for your shop recently but couldn't find it. Thanks for trying to explain the tuning.
Always love seeing you in my feed. I've even got my parents to subscribe so they can enjoy it to 😁
Enjoyed. A lot of energy and sound.
That sounds great. I sure love the mountain dulcimer and the style you play. Thanks for sharing. Would love to learn that style? Is it DAA?
EAE Key of A

@@1966Marshall1 Two fine fiddler's from here are Gordon Freeman (passed), and his brother Arvil. Are you related?
