- Following threats by Labour to embark on industrial action a new minimum wage, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the sum of N494,000 being demanded by organized labour, which cumulatively amounts to N9.5 trillion bill, is capable of destabilizing the economy and jeopardizing the welfare of over 200 million Nigerians.
Mr. Idris said this at a news conference in Abuja

Funny how this people are saying it will destabilize Nigeria but one person can embezzle close to this without it affecting the economy
All politicians should be paid 30k wage😂
If the government led by Tinubu can increase poverty then he should be ready to increase wages no need to complain when such amount has be looted from the government treasury in the past and currently now.
N60,000 is a slave wage. It is far below the Poverty Line of $2.15 a day recommended by United Nations. It cannot pay for transport, rent and electricity, school fees for our children, healthcare and other basic needs. Every Nigerian worker has unemployed relations depending on their salaries. We should stop accepting insults from these ministers earning millions in allowances and salaries each month.
Even landlord have increased house rent without d minimum wage being paid yet oo
@@oyetayoblessing976 All the more reason why government should increase minimum wage to N494k
How much does a single politician earn doing rubbish and passing unsustainable policies and laws?
The money individual are stealing is more than 9billion a year, the government should also bear the pains Nigerian are going through.
If you don't know how to go about it step down for people who have the answer. Are you asking Nigerian workers to work in poverty. Bring down the cost of living an labour will reduce their demand. Why are the government officials and elected politicians not having minimum wage that you are giving to Nigerian workers? As a minister what is your wage per month. Bring it out let's analyse it. Then you will know that you are just deceiving Nigerians with your wage proposals. If the government can't afford that of labour how is the government affording that of politicians?
Otti in Abia is still paying 18,000. Bloody IPOB hypocrite.
@@antnam4406 He should ask himself whether 18000 can buy bottled water for him in a month
Good one
My brother I tire o
What's impractical? Please step down if you can't achieve it. Whats 60k that cant even fuel my car? That is a fair amount. Politicians just have to loot less. Time for the Nigerian people to get their share of the pie
U have it. Just loot less money
Labour shud demand dat every govt functionaries starting from ward councillors to the president shud be placed on minimum wage.
Meeting the labour is always an issues, but you ppl can squander the nation money on useless things, like buying expensive cars for yourself, cars of 150k dollars
Otti in Abia is still paying 18,000.
Are you dumb, stupid or both.
Instead of your dumbass joining in support to increase the minimum wage you are here pointing finger at a particular governor are you not stupid like this?
Nigeria is a big joke, you can only be sensitive to the present conditions if the executive level has exercised that same sensitivity..The government still spend greedily on themselves, till this very moment former governors and presidents still collect outrageous sums of money as pension, they are entitled to over 10 million per month, free healthcare locally and abroad, villas in locations of their choice, disregarding the ongoing recession.
On top of all that they still pay themselves RIDICULOUS amount of money while serving your tenure, like the 15milllion plus they are payed per week,or is it the brand new SUVS, unnecessary foreign trips with personal assistance and the personal assistance own assistance 😂jokers we have up there leading us,.😂were is the inspiration or patience to persevere.
The day governors and their deputies, senators, house reps, I.g of police, defence ministers etc go out on the street protesting being owed salaries,,then the vast majority of Nigerians would calm down
Well said!!..If this cost of governance is cut down, and money recovered from stolen fund, then the govt would comfortably pay workers salaries...
Strike no going back
How much is the minister earning?
You can afford it. Some of you just have to give up some of your loot.
Why is is a big deal? 90 billion for religious tourism was not even debated
How does it amount for legislators in a year
What's the minimum wage of ministers, senators, Reps and even FIRS, CBN, NNPC, Ports Authority workers? Do these people paid from the same coffers of government go to different markets from other Nigerians?
When you removed subsidies on petroleum, electricity, devalue the currency, increased interest rates, do you not know that you have destabilized the economy?
Don't follow Laah Monammed path minister.
Really?
But there is money for coastal road. There is no money food yet you want to build a road to no where.
The Labour demand is highly unreasonable. No Govt can pay this ridiculous to a Level One in Nigeria. How much will level 17 would be collecting then?
That one should not be your problem. They should ask Gabon how they are paying 250 USD per month to their workers as minimum wage. That's about 400,000 per month. Nigeria has more natural resources than Gabon. What we need is leadership. Give way for person wey fit lead without excuse
@@josephagbo5202Am leaving Nigeria
You say Labour's demand is ridiculous wen fuel was increased from 187 to 650, did they ask us where we'll see money to pay? If the Tinubu misled administration can't pay that amount, they should take the price of fuel to 187 or below, is that a problem?
Labor is not realistic and am beginning to see this guy's as in capable of working for the people. They just only show there ego and some people follow them not knowing this people have become or the union have become a party. Even place like uk just increase per hour rate by less than one pound and labor want to go from 18000 which is the old rate to 494,000. We need to check this people well ooooo if they are capable
