Girl, you are literally the only one out there explaining the ONE thing I was searching for: the layers. Thank you so much!

Excellent! The importance of layers is very well presented here. I also noticed how you used a cold tone (blue grey) for the shadows - this acted as a complimentary to the warm tones of the delightful cartoon character, and gave it 'dimension'. The end result picture was dramatic!

Thank you for this, Corinne! As someone with years of experience in digital art and is starting out on Krita, this is definitely useful as a back-to-basics refresher for me and I plan on sharing this and your videos to my friends who plan on using Krita!
    You are a blessing!

I'm really struggling with CMYK. Trying to match up a rich black to a given background for printing. I type in the values in the selective colour picker and paint or flood fill but when I check it with colour picker the values are not the same. Any advice appreciated. I am using one layer set to normal with everything 100%. Thank you.

Hello Antonyreid7419. It's a challenging question. Keep in mind that some color variation is inevitable due to the inherent differences between on-screen and printed colors. I'll do my best to assist based on what I know. Feel free to continue your research to address any aspects I couldn't assist you with.
My first question would be the following: Are you using a color profile for both your design and printer? I googled a few things for you... I hope that's ok with you... I found some common profiles that include SWOP (Specifications for Web Offset Publications) for commercial printing or GRACoL (General Requirements for Applications in Commercial Offset Lithography). Verify that your color settings in your design software match the intended color profile. This includes the color space (CMYK) and bit depth.
Finally, you can do a few things in Krita. For instance, you can toggle SOFT PROOFING on any image using the Ctrl + Y shortcut. This should allow you to preview how the colors will appear when printed. For your convenience, here is the link to Krita's manual: docs.krita.org/en/user_manual/soft_proofing.html
I hope this helps a little. I have reached my limits here. Have a great day!
