As a swede, this was the most fun I had all day. Especially when I saw the Kärrknipprot word and burst out laughing hahaha. Poor Rachel, you did yor best!
Rochelle definitely killed it! She said begripa perfectly! You should have given her that point!!! Next time you need a native Swedish speaker to be the judge! 🇸🇪
Fun fact about the table Baggboda, it was originally called Cromi and was designed in 1971 by Karin Mobring. She was the first female designer at IKEA!
It's funny how all the items that they thought weren't typical of IKEA were super classic IKEA staple items back in the 70s-80s hehe. I swear everyone of my Swedish relatives had different versions of those in their homes back then.
As a swede I absolutely loved this video, and just seeing you guys try to pronounce the words was a great time. It's fun that you also decided to translate the words, but in true google translate fashion some words were translated a little wonky/ too literally; the main one being Ridspö which can be literally translated as riding stick, but it actually means horse whip- as in the whip you might use when horseback riding, not a stick that you ride. Also, Måla does translate to paint, but it's the action of painting, not paint itself; and Kärrknipprot is a plant in the orchid family, not swamp knotweed. Edit: something else that is good to know about Ikea is that a lot of things are named after locations in Sweden, so Bondskäret (for example) isn't a word or thing, it's a small town; same with Sotenäs, Nissafors, and Baggboda (and probably some other things in this video, I just can't remember them all)
I look at that little window on the ikea desk and wonder if I could waterproof it to make it a little terrarium to look at. I would have to drill into the glass in a few spots cause otherwise it would perpetually be covered in condensation. Orrr... Kelsie could make a little miniature world in there.
I LOVED Wendy as a guest! I actually didn't know of her before, but her energy was so fun and relaxed, I really enjoyed her dynamic with the other girls! Would love to see her back. 😘
I'm not a swede but we had to learn swedish at school in finland since finland has two official languages and the other is swedish, so hearing people try to pronounce swedish words is always so funny! edit: rochelle should've gotten a point for begripa
It looks like IKEA. They have a whole line of floral fabrics like that and have forever. They usually have bright colorful stuff like that. i know everyone thinks of them as sterile white stuff but that's not really the whole picture. The textiles have always been insane prints.
Yup, I think a lot of the budget options at ikea are sterile white (since white laminate mdf is cheap) and since they're also really popular, that's what most people associate with ikea. I think ikea has always been colour and pattern heavy in the textile department. It kind of goes along with the budget and versatility thing they're doing. Textiles are really easy to update and switch out with seasons or whenever you get bored 😊
This was SUCH a great episode!!! Loved the energy with Wendy, and a fantastic overview of cool IKEA products that I had no idea existed. AND: Rochelle was spot on with her pronunciation, even when you didn't give her the points. (She might secretly be Swedish! 💙💛💙)
I actually buy my granddaughters the refill of the roll of paper also for their table that has the holder on it. They also have awesome fabric Band-Aids, a large amount for only a few dollars, Walmart cannot touch the price of their Band-Aids. The cart, I am having back issues and I am needing surgery in a couple weeks I have to live downstairs in my home right now and in our downstairs closet I have put that cart in my closet to put my clothes on to keep them out of the way so I’ve made a makeshift bedroom closet downstairs using it and it’s been handy.
Just FYI, my sister started shopping at IKEA while living in Europe in the 1970s, even driving to Sweden for shopping before it was widespread, and it was always pronounced “ee-Kay-uh.” Adjusting to the Canadian/American “I-kee-uh” was a challenge!!
Yaaay, Wendy! I too have had my Rae Dunn moments... I do love those mugs, they are big, and they truly are indestructible! xD They take up a lot of space though, I really need to invest in a "china cabinet" of sorts to display my little collection and free up the space in my kitchen for the rest of my stuff!
15:01 I would totally put my phone in there to keep me from getting on it when I should be working!! And you can still see notifications for emergencies, I love it!
Hahaha those 'wreath mallows' remind me of the German 'Prilblumen' of the 70s. In those days a German dishwashing detergent with the name 'Pril' came with stickers on every bottle which showed such simple flowers in crazy colors. People would stick them everywhere in their homes, on tiles, on furniture on school bags etc. They were literally everywhere, it was absolutely hilarious! 🤪🤣Rapidly they became cult and are THE icon of the 70s in Germany and Austria.
Loved this. Although I live in NZ so we don't have ikea (maaaybe in Auckland idk). Its super fun watching and seeing new ideas, everyones thoughs for uses and different style preferences. The pronunciation element was super fun, played along. Have to say my top item was the couch.... love that green ❤ Aroha mai, aroha atu Xx
the orange flowered bedding is so late 60's! I could how a pic of a dress that is quite similar from my childhood. Not a fan, but it is spot on 60's fabric. As for the low slung yellow chair is a nightmare for us who are in our sunset years. Anything with knees below hips is not fun to climb out of with arthritis
What a fantastic episode! I haven’t seen most of these items (I go to IKEA with a specific mission then gtf out of there) and I saw some very practical items and even some pretty ones too
OMG how fun this is to watch as a swede 😂😂 Had to comment while I’m still watching 😅 I hope you visit Sweden Rochelle! Sounds like you’d be able to speak Swedish in no time if you’d like to learn 😄👏🏼 And! The first ever IKEA in the world is in Älmhult, and is now an IKEA museum, worth a visit!
I love how you all are trying to make sense out of the names to the items. A lot of them are places in Sweden and others not even we swedes knows way they are names that way. 🇸🇪
We have Jattebo in our home theater, and it's a lovely place for the family to hang out. We have it in the green, which doesn't clash in the place, but we are wanting to swap out to a different upholstery that better fits the vibe. That said, tackling the upholstery, with those hinged seats, and multiple corners, is time-consuming, so a heads up.
Okay , I commented mid video. She didn’t botch all of them 😁 she does sound more Norwegian than Swedish I think :) Also you guys let Wendy win. Some of her words were unacceptable and you still approved it. Becky said a word perfectly but got no point! But I see what you did there ;) wendy got a gift.

*LOL* Please do not try to learn Swedish from IKEA. ;-) When you just translate the words directly, the translation would be as you have written it. But the words are not used that way in the Swedish language. Many times two words have been put together that are not put together otherwise.
@@TheSorryGirls A lot of the names are geographical locations though. They have a sofa that was named after my old neighbourhood for example. And I had that sofa when I lived there hehe.

I owe so much to TSG because I have three gorgeous Moppes on my crafting desk that I painted and now which hold all my art supplies, and I got the idea from one of their videos!

Roshy’s horse themed book series: Was it the Saddle Club?? Because I’ve never met anyone else who read that series in the wild. 😂 Edit - also, I really enjoy this series, it’s the perfect weekend morning fun watch and I love Wendy, she can come back all the time. I’m excited to see more guest appearances too!
My In-laws have been learning Swedish on Duolingo, (I'm learning Welsh) and we peek at each other's progress on the family plan. It's not an IKEA but Mom's birthday present is Swedish alphabet blocks (Uncle Goose) to play with her granddaughter. We are planning a family trip to IKEA where they can flex their language skills and enjoy vegan hot dogs. I did use their abacus 🧮 for weekly bump/nursery pictures. Baby has a PAX wardrobe system a mural on the doors so we don't have to paint over it when we move, and can measure her height on the side. Her big girl bed is the HEMNES daybed, and we got it as our temporary bed knowing it would be our kiddo's bed eventually. The drawers are toy storage.

the umlauts in sotanäs (two dots over the a) turn the a sound into an ae sound. protip from my german class way back in hs ten years ago
