Great video. I followed your video #1 and remove the panel on my bus and now video #11 is a huge help on getting the new one on. I wondered how I was going to tackle the folded edges of the new panel and the answer is "chop them off"! Great video. Today's job for me is to fit the new panel... Eeeek!
Hi Steve. I just recently got a 72 camper which of course has rust. I've worked on VWs a lot but all mechanical, never before attempted body work. Your videos are informative and inspirational and I've already dug deeper into restoring my bus than ever before. I'm also interested in the idea of putting a Subaru engine in to replace a previous owner's bunged up rebuild. $$$ will be my only limiting issue, well, maybe Maine winters too since my garage isn't heated.
Glad that you are tackling your project. If you find a cheap used subi then you can save some cash. I would recommend saving up and getting a kit for the adapter. If you can make your own wiring harness that is another place to save some coin.
Hi there Steve been a while; question was that on off-set dies you were using on the bead roller?? The panel fit up nice, that not going anywhere soon . I'm still trying to master my bead roller, I made a fence for it and that part works great , need to power it and have another set of hand helping me, power will come first in those two options.
Great to see another video! Good work on that quarter!
Thanks! Not exactly what I was thinking but it should work 🤔 it's great to be working on the bus again 🔧
Dude I’m super impressed. Can’t wait until the next video.
Thanks Dude! Learning as I go👍

Did you clean off the brown paint of the flanged lip? Could be why the tig was blowing holes.
I did not clear the primer from the flange, was thinking it was a weld thru primer...?
Where did you find your repair panel?
I got them from bus depot 👍

They are the offset dies that came with the Eastwood bead roller, I am not very practiced with it but the panel did fit nicely.
Do you have professional welding experience or you are learning this too?
Michael, I do not have professional welding experience, I am completely self taught.
SVs Auto if there is a source you would recommend that you found really good, that would be appreciated!
I’m at this stage and was wondering how you get those bits that curve in. I saw one bloke just cut before the seem which was smart.
