Been there, blinked and missed it! Nah just kidding. This ballad was one of the first songs I heard when I "re-discovered" for myself Slim back in the '70's and have always had a fondness for visiting Camooweal, which I finally did twenty years or so ago. Nice town, friendly people, God's country.
The real outback of Australia, thanks Slim and all the folks enjoying this concert. Better than the American West I guess but I love both music of the country folks. . .
I think you are right. The clip was a part of The Slim Dusty Movie which was released in 1984 and I believe was filmed over about 12 months all over Australia. Mick Reed is the lead guitarist and I saw him last year(?), much more senior now, but still a great guitar player.
I don't want to get into an argument just yet BUT I do recall hearing it sung by Slim much earlier than that. As to your observation about the Landcruiser, you could be right about that of course but then that then begs a question to your original query, do you mean the age of the video clip or the particular age of the song itself? Looking at Slim on the clip, he looks to be mid-50's then, which would then suggest that the video is around1983.

Earlier than that, most likely early 60's.
