In this video series I will show you how to build an electric motorized longboard from scratch. It can reach speeds up to 34km/h and travel up to 20km with a single charge. The estimated costs are around 300$ which makes it a good alternative to commercial solutions.

I thought this would just be a tutorial for how to attach a motor to an existing longboard. Didn't really expect you to show me how to make a longboard.
+Ciroluiro the title states part one the long board itself - this should imply that he is making his own long board. the possible method he chooses for making it electric is somewhat universal, and knowledge could be applied to other boards. there are also kits that can be purchased that come with the electronics and gears for making an electric long board. where as it looks like this video series will show you how to custom make the gears and motor mounts
+Ciroluiro Ditto. Pleasantly surprised.
+austins_creations yes the title says it but I gave it a quick glance and watched it. then I read it again. it surprised me.
you are underestimating Germans
Good on him that he did
Awesome project bro
+American Hacker Thanks mate ;-)
Superb video series
Thanks for the tutorial GreatScott! I've been watching your videos for a long time now and enjoy every one of them!
As a UA-camr myself (Biker's Garage 101) I know the time and effort that it takes to put a video together. It takes at least 4 times to do anything. Camera gear, placement, editing, etc...
Keep up the good work!

I love everyone of your projects, but this throw me away!I was also thinking about this idea and I am happy that you are doing it!
this is going to be a GREAT series!
Excellent! The colour of the board looks great.
I cant wait wait to see how you used the wii nunchuck
I am so excited! Really looking forward for the next vids
Dude, this is awesome just starting out. Can't wait to see the rest!
I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR AN ELECTRIC TUTORIAL FOR SOOOO LONG!! Thanks dude!
Super excited! This brings my 2 favorite things together, electronics and skatboarding :D
GREATSCOTT you are my hero i will be following this build closely. As always thank you!
Great!!! Looking forward to see whats next!
it was really good, explained really well the first part! time to watch part 2!!!
Amazing project, look forward to part 2!
Can't wait for part 2!! :D
Ideally when making a longboard you're meant to put a convex bow in the ply when you glue it together so you have a "sprung" board (kind of like leaf springs) that can absorb a small amount of shock however I can see how that might make problems for the chain drive later on
I was waiting for a video like this , exist a lot of videos but they don´t rly explain so with your videos they explain a lot thanks !
YAYAYAYAY I JUST FINISHED MINE!!!! I'M HAPPY TO SEE YOU DO IT! ☺☺
What a sweet little project! thanks. I definitely hope I have time to do that this summer
Bravo. A real GreatScott! instant classic.
watched it now a 3rd time. just love it!
its about time he made this video. i was hoping for it quite soms time :p

Thanks for sharing your work.
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL ITS BRILLIANT!! I only wish I knew you so I could absorb a your knowledge. For all those with opinions that are negative, BE QUIET! Geez you should be happy he films these neat projects. Just sit back and relax and give him credit where credit due. Man I tell you people are so inpatient..and rude! Thanks again for this channel!
This video is better than most how to make a skateboard videos if you don't want to go all the way and just have a cool looking skateboard.
mblown! This series was unbelievable!
part2!! part2!!! where!!!
Extrem cooles Projekt! Freu mich drauf :)
Please don't stop making youtube videos! you are great at it and you will get your million subscribers eventually!

Hey ich kann nicht warte auf die Fortsetzung.... So eine Coole Idee für ein Projekt
Damn was just looking to do this, you are awesome
Nothing boring about this video at all!
If I were only a bit younger ....Like 30 years LOL! ;-))
i would have loved to follow this project...and because you know how you made the thing, you might be more confident that it doesn't catch fire or blow up on you.
Awesome my friend.
you rock great Scott
Wow, this is amazing so far! I was just researching these the other day. What did the final project cost? Euros/manhours
*OMG a BOOSTED BOARD!!*
thanks!!
GreatScott really is great! I guess I should not be surprised but I only recently noticed how Germans seem to have the best engineering- related UA-cam channels.
Great Scott!!!
This guy is crazy. I like it.
great scott can u make a video about what useful components u can find inside a broken PC or CPU
GreatScott that is GREAT :D
Since you said in another video that a mechanical weak spot is the aluminum piece you milled, would it be a better idea to mount the motor to the wood adjacent to the wheel instead?
As a kid I bolted a 5th wheel in the middle of my skateboard it was about 10". I bungee corded a 32cc weed wacker motor and made a hand throttle. I had an extra skateboard wheel rubbing on the large side mounted one to drive it. It actually worked great!! I had to of been 12.
Awesome, good idea
I LOVE you!! I REALLY wish you were my neighbor! Cool, cool projects!
That is awesome!
"secure that all with a nuts" 😂
Omg this is so cool !
Danke du hasst mir sehr geholfen.
great work.
Can i upgrade it to make it faster ?
If i use a carbon fiber base and use aluminum can i make it faster if not how can i upgrade the motor pls help ty
You are fucking awesome, i can't wait for part2!
Do you think you can also make it for a bike? just adding the motter on the chain?
Cooles Video!
Nice Job! I also have built one half a year ago. There are many things you have done the same ;D
I think this Longboard building process has become standard and also this deck layout (2 or 3 * 4mm multiplex plates) is the standard layout. Today you shouldn't buy a deck anymore: Build your own one! Thumbs up for this Video!
Can't wait for a whole week :'(
I am going to make it!
I decided November last year that in school i would make one of these. Thank you.
I havent really worked with a pully before, but isnt it supposed to be tightened more?
I actually do like your videos and i will surely increase my donation in pateron next year.
Keep going and do not react to people who talk that you are "money" grabber. People do not understand how much work it is for one person to make 5 minute youtube video, let alone 10 or longer videos. For one man show it is basically full time job.
AWESOME !!!!
Thumbs Up
I am think about making this and wanted to know when you say 1 gear system and there are 3 links do I have to get all of them
This video is such a tease
Wow thx for showing us how to build it😏
Very cool!
A better alternative to Boosted Board's boards!
Ye when or if I make this I think I might put the two texture grip on
cheaper isn't always better... but you'll certainly learn a lot. head over to electric sphere. we build electric boards a lot over there. I like Alien Drive Systems and RedRock BoardShop builds but there are many to try!
+Stijn Stevens I build my own electric longboard and trust me, the boosted board is way more advanced. They simply use advanced battery management systems to allow for faster charging speeds and safer handling. The remote control is easy to use and very small and it uses sensored motors, which gives you a much smoother ride. You have to consider that Bossted Board has maybe the most advanced (and most expensive) boards out there, but there are many cheaper alternatives.
+Maximilian Staab Not to mention this can be improved as much as your skills are good for, plus parts can be scavenged or bought 2nd hand too to cut costs.
Really awesome tutorial though :)
+Maximilian Staab Hmm, maybe I should have said a cheaper alternative.
gonna do this after exams for sure
Hey du machst echt super Video, super Sprachgebrauch. Du bekommst immer mehr und mehr Abonnenten du hast jetzt schon ca.160.000 Abonnenten!👍
+GreatScott! Glückwunsch du hast in ca. 1 Std 51 Abonnenten bekommen!👍
We smoothed out the bums!
The sad thing is, that i am able to build something like this but i think i will never be able to ride such a thing.
The finished project looks very nice! I am looking forward to the following parts.
You are BEST Electric :)
heyyy, can you make a more simple version of this with wired speed controler and no esc
Greatscott please make an electric mountain board with custom cnc motor mounts with your x-carve!!!! Love your channel!!!!
Awesome i have to make it
one problem no concave. it's flat your feet don't have much grip
can I do the mod on a regular "stunt" skateboard I want to do this but to keep it as compact as possible.
Great project!! I am knew to dig.electronics, I am also disabled and would love to put together a motorized wheel chair. I have absolutely no idea where to begin. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
David.
is it ok to use just one sheet of ply as opposed to the three that you used? Or is this for structural purposes?
When is coming part 2?? im waiting !!!
