    When you take off the old tail lights I would test and make sure the bulbs work before I throw away my old cracked tail lights

    Ground to trailer then the rest ground to trailer too. Less wiring

    I noticed that you seem to skip the part about splicing the brown wire to the side marker lights. There is only a single brown wire that goes from the front to the back of the trailer and yet somehow it has to tie into the side marker light.

      With the kit I purchased, it had two brown wires spliced at the plug. Each brown wire goes to the back, one left and one right. You are correct that I took two pieces of the excess brown wire and spliced into the two main brown wires to feed the side marker lights. I believe I showed myself making the connections just past where tongue meets the main part of the trailer but my lighting and camera angle were not ideal. Sorry.

      It's the most important part. Most people are not familiar with tapping off from a wire, or using Tconnectors.

    Will this kit work if I have a round plug and trailer brakes?

    • @richofalltrades1
      @richofalltrades1  Рік тому

      Thanks for the question, you can probably use this kit for the lighting, but you likely need to cut the flat 4 prong plug that provided in the kit and graft it to your round plug which includes the wires for braking circuit. Hope that helps.

    I put the same LED light kit on my trailer cause I was tired of not having running lights. I installed everything like it’s supposed to and every light is grounded including the tongue front of the trailer, and what do you know still no running lights . I have brake light and turn signals and the maker lights still will not light up and no tail lights. It’s a mystery to me

    • @richofalltrades1
      @richofalltrades1  Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment, sounds like maybe the problem wasn't the actual trailer lights to begin with. It might be a problem with wiring for the trailer harness in the vehicle. I would start by getting a test light or multimeter and confirming that you are getting constant 12 volts from the running light lead from the harness on your vehicle when you turn on the running lights. If you do get 12v power from the harness then you have isolated that it was something you did at the trailer that will need corrected. If you don't get 12v power at the harness then you know it has something to do with wiring in the vehicle causing your issue. I hope this helps.

      Thanks for the question, actually, no. My mounting point is just really low on my trailer. My plate just hangs very low.

    A clear shot of which wires were on side markers is required , and then a clear shot of which wires of the side markers get connected to which wires that were used for back lights. Just about every sight leaves this out . Update...and how to use little blue clips that join 2 wires. Will check site later 2night👍🌻

    • @richofalltrades1
      @richofalltrades1  2 роки тому +2

      @R.A. Murillo Thanks for the feedback, sorry I wasn't clear about the side marker connections. In the kit, there is a separate brown wire for both right and left running lights. Those run all the way back to the tail lights. Each side marker light has two wires. One white, which goes to ground/ chassis, and one brown, which will connect to the brown tail light wire for the corresponding side.
      example: Left marker brown to left running light brown, and right marker brown to right running light brown. I basically cut both brown running light wires near front of the trailer and made the spliced connections to side markers there. Hopefully this explanation is helpful.

      Check your trailer fuses on your vehicle (under the hood and inside the glove box) the running lights won’t work if any of your fuses are bad

    • @richofalltrades1
      @richofalltrades1  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the question, I am a little confused, do your truck running lights come on, but the trailer lights do not? Or is it both the truck and trailer running lights not working? If it is just the trailer not working you need to make sure the brown trailer wire is getting a good connection to your existing running light circuit. I would use a test light or multimeter to check the four way trailer plug spliced to the truck's lighting circuit to make sure it is working properly.

    • @richofalltrades1
      @richofalltrades1  2 роки тому

      Typically, trailer harness plugs have four wires, brown, green, yellow and white. Brown is the running light. Green and yellow are your left and right turn signals and white is ground.

    • @emmetthoffman593
      @emmetthoffman593 2 роки тому

      For a 4 wire trailer, green/yellow are your left/right brake lights and turn signals, your brown wire is your running lights, and your white wire should be your ground. The harness should have those colors, as well as your new tail light. If not, consent your owners manual for the light. Theres also many trailer wiring diagrams online as well.

    • @richofalltrades1
      @richofalltrades1  Рік тому

      Thanks for the question, did you run a wire from each of the parking lights to the main brown lines that travel to the tail lights? The brown wires feed the running lights. Also, be sure you attach the ground wire from each parking light they need a good grounding point on the trailer.

      @@richofalltrades1 I changed a fuse and they worked fine. But now one side is out i have no idea why. This kit came with only one ground wire.
