    We live 10 min from Hersheypark, and we still make it a thing to go to Knoebels a few times a year. I prefer this park to the crowded and pricey Hersheypark (even though we have season tickets for HP). The tourists all go to Hersheypark, but the locals know to go to Knoebels. The coasters are better at Hershey, but the overall atmosphere and family rides make Knoebels the better place to go. I just wish it wasn't literally out in the middle of no-where (it will be a travel to get there no matter where you are from).

    A terrific walk-through and critique, Jay-- thanks for your efforts. Although I've been there a couple of times, I realize from your video how many things I've missed. Here's what you immediately notice in your video and here's why I love this park: the park is filled with families with kids. On my visits I've often seen older folks, too, and families of many ethnic groups, pregnant women, people in wheelchairs. In other words, you see people of all sizes, ages, shapes, cultures, and classes. It has a diversity that corporate parks like Six Flags will never have. Those parks cater to teens and young adults, and is certainly unfriendly to seniors--try finding shade or benches when you need them. Worse, the cost of these parks is prohibitive for those who aren't riding much, so you don't see many grandparents hanging out with grandkids. Knoebel's is the way amusement parks used to be at their best: relaxing, fun, family friendly, affordable, with decent food and things for everyone to do. The question is why there are not more parks like Knoebel's. Some of the answer to this probably involves making huge profits for shareholders; they are certainly not interested in providing fun for a cross-section of America. I will continue to give parks like Knoebel's my support, and I encourage others to do so.

    • @jayducharme
      @jayducharme  7 років тому

      George Oliver Glad you liked the video, George. Actually there still are quite a few family-friendly parks left. But they don't have the big advertising budgets that the chains do, so you have to hunt for them. I have a couple of them coming up next week.

    Fun fact. Kosmos Curves was a ride that replaced the previous Power Coaster ride that had a real engine that ran it. The engine was under the station and was controlled by a stick that led to the load platform and was operated by the guy up top.

    it's such a great park, so much to offer, super affordable, not terribly out of the way from philly/ new york/ baltimore. the food choices are super varied, you can go there with $30 in your hand and have a full, enjoyable day and leave with a full stomach. nowhere else I know of lets you park for free, walk into the park for free, and has this much to offer. plus the setting is gorgeous, can't think of anything wrong with knoebels.

    I absolutely love this place. I have been going here every Labor Day weekend my entire life. I am 15, turning 16 by Labor Day weekend meaning this will be my 17th traditional time going. I have so many great memories of this place. Every year, my family has the tradition of going on the Whipper as the first ride. When I come here it makes me feel like a little kid again. I'm writing this in July and I'm already way too excited to come here. I still have a couple of other small vacations coming up such as the shore and even a trip to Boston, but I'm still so much more excited to come here instead. Will anyone be here that weekend???? I'm staying at the Holiday Inn in Bloomsburg, my first time staying there. (Hampton Inn, Danville since I was like 6 and then the Best Western, Danville since last year) (P.S., if this sounds gay trust me i'm not) L

    I usually go to knoebels 1-2 times a year and it's always a great time. I go with my family but I'm the only one in my family who likes roller coasters, free fall rides, etc. so both times we go this year I'm taking a friend and we are going on all of the roller coasters and many other rides! going with my best friend tomorrow for her birthday! we are going to have an amazing time!! and the good part is that we only live about an hour away, maybe even less than an hour, so it's very close!!

    Fantastic job Jay. It's been too long since my last visit to this park (Pre Flying Turns) but looks like the park still has every bit of the charm I love. I really appreciate these walk throughs because I wish they existed for Mountain Park.

    • @jayducharme
      @jayducharme  8 років тому

      Me too. I just wish I had taken more pictures of Mt. Park while it was operating. I guess that's why I'm attracted to doing these walk-thrus; they capture a moment in time. Even if the park drastically changes (like Riverside did), we can still see what it looked like before.

    • @BBHouseRodent
      @BBHouseRodent 8 років тому

      Have you thought about turning you blogs and pictures into videos? It's been a while since I've read them but there were some great stories there.

    • @jayducharme
      @jayducharme  8 років тому +1

      That's an interesting idea. Outside of the music I post (which obviously isn't visual), I try to keep my videos less static than a slide show. But perhaps the stories could reach a different audience that way. I'll certainly consider it in my copious free time. ;-)

    Jay you should of went to the campground got on The Fun Bus. Yes The Fun Bus, it takes those people who camp at the campground and back to the park. You should shown your viewers what the campground looks like and show them the cabins look like. I stayed in those cabins. The cabins have a loft that sleeps 4 people that people climb up. There is a bed area that sleeps 2 and have a "kitchen" area and outside there is a picnic table and a fire pit. Single cabins sleep 6 and Double cabins sleep 12 people and have 2 "kitchen" areas and 2 outside picnic tables and fire pits. There are other cabins in the campground that have indoor full bathrooms with a sink, flushable toilet, and a shower. They have a small kitchen with electric stove and oven and a sink. there is a back master bedroom and a bed area with 2 bunk beds and a loft for sleeping or storing your gear. Outside is a picnic table and a fire pit. I camped there with my wife's family 4 times. I could of gone this year because my wife's mom did not allow me to go. It was Knoebel's 90th Anniversary.
