Great to see you enjoying my home town! I feel like it's often overlooked by tourist even though it's in my (biased) opinion, the best city in terms of liveability and scenery in Finland. Tampere is actually also the fastest growing city in Finland. Fantastic footage as well, I think you really captured the essence of the city. Good luck on your future travels!
Thanks very much, Luukas. I think you're right about the city being underrated, got a feeling that tourism will go from strength to strength when the travel situation improves in Europe. Glad you like the footage and I'm pleased I could do it a little bit of justice. 😀
Congrats on the success of this Finland Series! You deserve it! We have yet to order one of those scooters, but looks pretty straight forward with the app. We love a good doughnut. First you DIDN'T Cliff Dive and now you DIDN'T repel down the tower. We expect some high risk 😂The houses of Pispala are so bright and colorful!
Thanks very much, it's certainly been a good few weeks for the channel and for that I'm grateful. I think I'm going to have to step up the danger level on these vlogs 😂. You've got to get a scooter if you get the chance, they're a lot of fun to ride and pretty quick too! That's about as dangerous as I get at the moment. 😬
Enjoying to watch your videos, great information, thank you Matt , Tampere looks fabulous, been there visiting, but that was a long ago..have a lovely day , take care 🇫🇮☕🍩👍😊❤
Glad you enjoyed it 👍 It was a city I hadn't heard of until about a month before. At the time (due to COVID) there were cheap flights almost everywhere but I'm glad I chose Tampere.
@@MattWhitingsEuropeyou have done so beautiful video, your finnish pronunciation is great 👍thank you Matt , you are amazing person and Love to watch your videos , listening to your information ..❤🇫🇮
Yeah definitely, it was very cold. Gets a lot colder though, so I think I got off lightly. Hope you make it there someday, it's well worth a visit! Thanks for checking out my video!
LOVED the scooters. 100% doing them if/when I make it over there. So nice to be riding them through nature too! You made it up the tower at the perfect time with the glow of the sun going down. The sauna boats look fab - when done, you can jump straight in the water - genius! Looking forward to finding out where your next adventure is!
The scooters really were a lot of fun!! They also made getting around a whole lot easier and quicker - I wouldn't have seen everything I wanted to by foot, it would have just been a bit too much. My European adventure will definitely continue next week, sad to say goodbye to Finland (for the time being at least!).
there was a great civil war memorial at the pispala ridge neighbourhood that you missed, its in a little park along the same road you walked. its at 11:25 at the left top side, its like a small obelisk.
Ah yes I see it! Strangely enough that's the park I was standing in when flying the drone, if you look carefully you can see me a little further along trying to maintain a line of sight with the drone. I think I may have walked along and looked at the memorial but didn't film it. I can't remember why. Thanks for the information about it!
Stunning video! A bit of everything there - nature, urban environment, culture, fun things to do. I've never been to Finland but looking at it, it reminds me of our Karelia, near St-Petersburg.
That's interesting, Olga. It really is a fun city to visit, hopefully you make it to Finland at some point! Karelia looks like an interesting region of Russia, would you recommend visiting?
@@mko4352 The city of St. Petersburg itself, of course, has never been Finnish. Simply because it was built by Russia, on the orders of Peter the Great. The current city is located on the lands of the so-called Ingria
My old aluminium truss mast is visible in 9:26 just next to the observation tower on the left side. I sold it to Tampere amateur radio club years ago. The club is located in that same building and I can see that the club members have installed some multi band yagi antennas onto that mast.
hey , thanks for making this video . many of my friends live there but they don't have the ability to shoot videos like this . so I always wondered how this city looks really . from your video I got a clear idea about the city and the location . please make more videos like this 👍
Thanks suomenpresidentti, did I spell it wrong somewhere? Thanks for the information. Lovely area for hiking, you must really enjoy it to drive down over 100km? Thanks for watching the video!
Next time you should check out another site of the lake, Kauppi which is also near of center. You can take bus number 2, scooter or walk(20minutes) to Lapinniemi and walk from there to Kauppi. There is 2 nice saunas: Rauhaniemen and Kaupinojan which you could also test out. You should do this at summer :)
Thank you Janne, glad you enjoyed the video. I will definitely be back in Finland at some point, there's so much more to see. I've got a feeling I only just scratched the surface!
Cool that you had time for another day here. It was also more clearer weather for a change which was nice. BTW What model drone you're using? Planning to buy one too.
Yes it was a beautiful day weather wise, cold but bright! The drone is a little Mavic Air that I bought in 2018, it fits easily in my backpack and flies for about 20 minutes on a charge (I have two batteries). It shoots 4K although I tend to only use HD and although the camera is tiny the footage really packs a punch. I think there's a newer version of the drone now - the Mavic Air 2 although I haven't really read any reviews. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@@MattWhitingsEurope Thanks about info of your drone. I have thought about buying Mavic Mini.. It wouldn't be such a big deal if I lost it somehow. Looking forward where you are heading next! Also hope for everyone that restrictions will ease as we are going on this year.
I'm with you there, let's hope travel gets back to normal soon, there are definitely encouraging signs so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I've seen the Mavic Mini but haven't read much about it, I may look closely at it when I need a new one. Size and weight are really important to me, needs to fit in the backpack and not weight half a tonne!
Yes there is but it's not as easy as you'd think. I have this problem a lot! There are usually guides on pronunciation websites and even here on UA-cam, trouble is there's lots of conflicting information. It's often the case you'll find 2-3 different pronunciations on the same site/page! Do you have a link to any pronunciations I can rely on, if so I'd love to hear it?
For me personaly and thats only now my oppinion finland looks much more Russian to me then other scandinavien countries. Also the houses the colours dont fit together and in general i find the architecture style of the buildings quite boring and simple. In overall and i have been myself many times in tampere i find the generell lookings of the infrastructure cold and depressing. Also many areas look kinda poor.
The wooden houses and the main square are the only real "nordic" looks of Tampere. There's still a lot of buildings from the 60's, 70's and 80's that have taken inspiration from Soviet architecture and they're as you can imagine, pretty hideous and boring.
Well, tell me, what does "Russian" look like? I have been in Russia, and it's really nothing like Finland. That's comparable to me saying Switzerland looks like Serbia. These days Finland is hands down cleaner and better looking than even Swedish cities, believe me. Also, there are only around 30 000 Russians in Finland, 0,54% of the population, how could any place in Finland look Russian? If you're talking about post-war brutalist concrete architecture, I've seen loads of that in Switzerland as well, and in many other countries. "Plattenbau" in Germany. And how could the areas look poor? Finland GDP per capita $51,867 nominal, 2021. Sweden GDP per capita $55,566 nominal, 2021. I've seen nothing but clean environment and buildings in good condition, modern public transportation in these clips. I lived in Tampere as well for a long time in the past. Some parts of Geneva looked a lot like Southern Europe to me - I leave it up to you to determine if that's really a compliment or not, when we're talking about an area in Central Europe. Finland is just very modern, since most of the cities growth has been after the war - and modern architecture isn't about prettiness or aesthetics, it's about functionalism. All together, you have made an insulting, highly pompous and ignorant comment.
As a Finn, you are quite correct. There has been alot of influence from Russia with the architecture, it's usually just a more refined version of the style. That's why most towns and cities in Finland are quite dull and depressing for the most parts.
@@HeilAmarth well like i said in the start its only my oppinion. Well Geneva is more french like and see themselves more as french then swiss. The german speaking parts are way diffrent. Just a PSA to all English speaking people: no, you did not pronounce that Finnish place or name correctly. And that is completely fine.
