Not to mention the fact that this "alien planet" also evolved humans, apes, and horses. Honestly, if Taylor can see all of that and still think it isn't Earth, why doesn't he just assume the aliens built their own Statue of Liberty?

Duh that’s just a convention of filmmaking. Same as Star Trek and Stargate and a million other franchises. You really want all the aliens to speak another language and have the protagonists not be able to understand them? That’s insane.

@@thefonzkiss Stargate literally explained why there were humans on the alien planet and the people there DID NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. (That changed with the TV spin-offs, though.)

I get you about the small detail obsessing, but I'm not really onboard with the premise here. I've never thought of that helmet as noteworthy. There are far more ostentatious military helmets and hats in the real history of real Earth militaries.
The video is funny, but I just don't see the issue, lol. 🤷‍

This is weird, lol. Not even saying that's bad, per say, just saying.
I am going to offer this: I don't recall ever finding the "hat" weird, and, even now, in light of the groovy beat poem, I still don't find it notably odd. Kind of cool, in fact. Ostentatious head gear is pretty common in the military.

I like to think its animal hide. Besides I like that it ads to the movies' strangeness. This has always been the charming aspect of the Planet of the Apes. A movie critic awhile back called it the weirdest science fiction franchise to ever grace the silver screen.

I think its more influenced by the crowns of Egyptians, Chaldeans and Babylonians rulers. Though how an ape would know about such ancient human cultures is another quest.
