Animals, Creatures, and Fairytale worlds are created with Acrylic paints in “Foggy Knight”

  • Acrylic painting done on canvas as a time-lapse demonstration of what can be achieved with the medium. My paintings tend to tie together as snapshots from various parts of an overarching story. I view them as chapter headings or "coming soon" movie posters that highlight some of what you might experience when diving into this world. Here is just a little glimpse of "The Outside":
"Below the clouds, and below the gaze
of the western cliffs and the abandoned place.
Where the fog is thick and the echoes stir,
then out of the wetness, a change occurs.
He leaves the sea in his brand new form.
    Once a "Mer", now dinosaur!
This Foggy Knight counts on the sound,
of thunder and waves, crashing around.
They hide his entrance. he carries out his task.
To bring news to The Gardner of the Fool-King in the mask.
His friends are all close; they shepherd him forth.
Because strength in numbers will deliver him north.
Where a group of knights of the order of stars,
gather together on a beach not too far.
And what is the topic, the conversation at hand?
Where are all the children? Why have they left this land?
And who is this charmer who feels like a viper?
Is he a minstrel? Is he a piper?
This group that gathers will do all they can,
To get back the children and defeat this dark-Pan.
It will take an army to fight his army of frights,
So assembled in numbers, are the brave Starry Knights!"

You know... you spend all that time in art history class - studying the "greats" - Salvador Dali, Michelangelo, DaVinci - but I have never seen anything quite so creative, beautiful and skilled as this - this is truly remarkable - I hope you go down in history Sir, and that your name is well known - I am blown away... WOW.

the problem of modern art is that you're flooded in the mass cause there is so many artist now. it's harder to make your place ^^

    • @travman1987
      @travman1987 3 роки тому +10

The reason you spend all that time studying the "greats" is because that is what inspired all modern art today. Without Dali, Lewis Carrol and Richard Adams you probably wouldn't have Simkins because all artists/filmakers/authors of today are standing on the foundation of the "greats" work and in fact continue it.

I don't know why but I've always loved watching someone write, even doodling, it's like I get in a trance, there's no particular reason or pattern to it, I'm like a deer in headlights . But this is at another level, I literally could stare at his creating anything, watching him put the very last details on fish, birds, thank you so much for the moments you made me forget about my personal worries and sadness, even though it feels fleeting, being lost in time. Very grateful 🙏

It's really hard and discouraging when you start. You have this vision in your mind but the brushes just don't seem to agree with you. Just remember, the people on Instagram and UA-cam that you want to be like have been doing this for a long time.
What I like to do is pick a subject - say 'clouds' or 'waves' or whatever, and binge-watch a bunch of different videos to pick up lots of tips, and just start using them. And over time, you start to build up a reference catalogue in your head.
When you're stuck for inspiration, just check out how other people approach it. Eventually your hands and you brain start to get in synch and you find yourself using those techniques you picked up automatically, even applying them to other subjects. It's all about experience and muscle-memory.

I'm just going to say it. You...Mr. Simkins...have truly found enlightenment. Your mind must be fascinating, because in my experience...those of us who paint find our therapy/enlightenment in the details. In breaking down visuals into smaller and smaller shapes that are still cohesively engaged, the mind can sometimes emulate this emotionally and in a way only someone who creates could understand. I apologize for the broad speak...Im trying to find the right words because this is very important to convey to you. Mostly because you already KNOW it, but there is absolutely NOTHING BETTER than that shared moment of realization and awareness clicking. And to be reminded/shown from another viewpoint of perspectives of ourselves can be so refreshing and possibly rejuvenate that awareness we already attained, but store away because the existential reality of existance is so profound, that if you were to let on that you found a certain peace many will fight a lifetime to find...you might become an icon and/or a prophet externally...and that seems to be the furthest thing from the point of finding it in the first place. Its the RELEASE of the ego in some ways. But thats not the point. What I am getting at is this:
I would absolutely wager that your mind knows a peace and a place so close to "God" or the universe at large...that you hold many secrets to life that you dont even realize they are secrets. But they are. Because it takes incredible discipline to attain them. And they are easily lost too. Other people commonly attempt to borrow this energy....but trust when I say...you create it. And you emanate it. Your art is so stunning that it expands the mind just upon looking at it. I wonder what it feels like to be the author of this energy giving. So much so that I chose art and music to dedicate my life to because I hope to attain even more than I have even barely scratched the surface of. As always...thank you for the inspiration and the reminder that there is magic still out there. And now I HAVE to paint. Its absolutely like a silent contagion. Especially after watching you for hours. I MUST CREATE. A voice that doesn't go away until I put my brushes to canvas or wood or anything I want to paint. I appreciate the gumption sir. ;)
Honor that mind and that goodness inside of you when you can. When you do what you are meant to be doing...you know. And its incomparably amazing. Congratulations on owning life. ;)

Digital artist of 6 years here, I'm utterly blown away by your talent! I've always been envious of the soft gradients and the brush texture you get from traditional painting, it's difficult to replicate properly from a digital point of view even with digital brushes. I've wanted to get into acrylic painting for ages but I've always been too afraid of messing up. Maybe I'll try to paint along with one of your videos this summer!

No he visto nada más bello en mi vida. Estoy de acuerdo en que ojalá y pases a la historia como un gran artista. Es emocionante verte pintar. He llorado con la parte de la orca de la hermosura evocadora que tienen tus cuadros. Gracias
