I like the background stories like: this game was played in Varna. Do you know where Varna is? Is in Bulgaria. Its the third largest city in Varna. Makes the game more interesting in my opinion and takes very little time.
Looks simple and elegant in retrospect but it is the precision of the timing thats amazing OTB. Not a tempo lost, the timing had to be absolute. The genius of Fischer was incredible.
there's so much knowledge u have to be an uber genius to play at this level ... even if everything looks so natural and easy ... man this is superhigh lvl ...
Demolished. Jesus. Notice how Fischer wouldn't let Robatsch counter attack on the other side of the board. It was relentless. Also notice how Robatsch's rooks weren't connected, his queen was useless, his last bishop didn't even have a chance to develop, and his knights were clumsy. Fischer knew how to make any opponent look like a beginner. Brutal.
I am no expert but after watching the Morphy games here, it seems like Fischer adopted that concise style, always seizing initiative, attacking while developing and surprising with sacrifices no normal human would think of.
@dachevashe I try to fit everything in 5 minutes. To explain it properly we would need at least 30 minutes. So I will always miss some variation but not the most important ones. When it comes to WCC 2012 Anand vs Gelfand I will fit everything in 10 minutes.
Its' hard to play against Einstein's Theory. Poor Robatch, the psychological effect Fischer had against opponents played a huge factor to the trauma they experienced whilst wondering how long they could last.
Well.. maybe you're right bro. i'm not a chess expert so i cannot make deep analysis as you did. But i still believe that. Bobbi Fischer is one of the greatest chess players in history. This is my own opinion. thank you..
"Perhaps black king is putting on running shoes so he can escape". Brilliant commentary, Mato. Your videos are by far the best chess videos on the internet.
at 1:00 you say, "... and he's going to launch pawn storm against castled king." you make chess sound so epic! thank you for your commentaries, mato =]
H file would be open to white rook. g4 would chase the Knight from h5. Knight would be also forced away from f6. White Queen would end up eventually on h7.
Bobby Fischer s attack is unrelenting...It is inspiring to watch how he just goes for it every single game and how intimidating it must have been for his opponents. The Mohamed Ali of chess.
hello mato ! this is my first comment on one of your posts, I love all your videos please keep up the good work ! I just have one question concerning this game : In the opening, after black fianchettoed his bishop he has 2 attackers on Fischers d4 pawn, but doesnt take it. Obviously it wasnt good to take, because Fischer didnt add another defender. just wondering.
Thank you for your explanation! I was wondering this myself. However, I think you meant Bxd4, not nxd4 for black's second move in the variation you cover.
why did fisher's opponent bring out his queen so early only to bring it back to it's original position? don't you lose tempo doing that? I am a beginner so just wondering.
Mato, great video. I don`t know if you missed it or not but it is good to explain to the viewer why Robatch did not play the capture 6..Qxd4?? which would lead to a bad ending for black with best play.Example: 7.Qxd4 Bxd4 8.Nd5 Bb6 9.Bxc7 Nf6(or lose the rook) 10.Nxb6 axb6 11.0-0-0 0-0 12.a3! and white has a great endgame.
+montetank tankkiller 8.Nd5 is better than Nb5 because it stops black from defending with Na6 later.I dont think its "game over" after your 0-0-0. Black plays Na6 and c6. White has compensation for the pawn, but thats it.Nothing overwhelming about the position. Ex: after 9.0-0-0 in your line Na6 lets say10. Nf3 c6 11.Nbd4 Nc7( on the way to d5 and not allowing doubled pawns after Bxa6)12..Bc4 Nd5 13.Bg3 Nf6 black is consolidating a pawn up.
yes-you are right. No time for 0-0-0 because of Na6-so it must be played Bxc7. Dont know why, i have the feeling, that there is something better in the air. Have to ask Fritz 14 later.
The last thing you wanted to do against Fischer is to play one of the many speculative openings like the Scandinavian. Even against the best opening moves, he wins. Against second best moves, it's hopeless. He was simply too precise. And if you weren't equally precise, he could exploit your weaknesses like Morphy. He will be remembered as the greatest human chess player of all time.
Then he can castle on the queen side an he has to protect his bishop. after this he can play maybe Nb5. He have to protect c7 and then he can take on d4 for example. But maybe this variation avoids the attack on the king side a bit.
I have a variation that I think could have helped black win the Game. In the video at minute 4:14, when it's black turn to move. What if he played Nf5 thereby both the Black Knight and Queen attack the White Queen? I think this could have given him a chance of winning. What do you think?
WC GM Fischer made it look like he was playing a class level player. My only thought about this game is that Fischer did not try to protect his d-pawn; which was attacked twice by Black's Q and Bishop after move Qd2. ( 0:49 ). However, Black did not take. What would be the best line if Black decided to take?
after white plays d5, black plays Nf-e8. And if white plays dxc, then after black regains the pawn with bxc, it creates a semi open file for black's rook. This doesn't work. Good try though!
Why was this played on Move 10? 10.h5 gxh5 Why didnt knight capture the pawn on h5. If knight would have captured then the king side would have not been opened up. Dont understand why..
Fischer has to be the greatest chess player of all times. I hope they will make a statue of Fischer and place it in the Lincoln or Washington memorial area as a tribute to a great American and a great world citizen.
That would be a blunder. Rxg8 - rook takes rook, forking king and queen, and the queen is lost. If he takes the rook with the knight, then Qxh7 - checkmate!
@iliginjaili maybe if white q takes black qyueen, then black couldnt castle. maybe also bc7 would follow instead leaving bishop unprotected and white q on amazing diagonal
losing the queen for 2 rooks is fair i don't see any reason to resign btw, i played similar games many time, i happy to see that it played also in higher levels
i can't believe top players would consider the Scandinavian defense. its very difficult to equalize as black when you have to move the queen several times during the opening. this extra time can be used to easily smash black's position. i think if black REALLY wants to play this way, he ought to immediately play Qa5 after Nc3 and go for a aggressive, dynamic game on the queen side
his name was Karl Robash and at the end he said he defeated a strong grand master in just 20 moves. i don't know many of the names but grand master is grand master no matter what his name is.
ross vandenberg I must differ. There are grand masters and then there are Grand Masters like Tal, Fischer, Carlsen, and Kasparov. Maybe these should be called super GMs.
Locutus D'Borg I must differ too. From 1990's onwards, GM numbers a few hundreds to now over a thousand. Back in 1962, Robatsch was already a GM, and back then they are less than 50 GMs. You got to be the best to be one. GMs back then were todays super GMs.
Scandinavian Is a good defense ... Qa5 variation is much better as you said but also possible is after e pawn taks d5 playing Nf6 . anyway , Scandinavian is a good solid defense ... most openings are playable ... some are more solid than others but Scandinavian is an excellent defense (not as solid as sicilian but you can use it even at top level ) .
on the beginning before Fischer can castle the black should have taken the pawn and queen to queen. the black also tried to be fancy in his game and did not take the pawn but being up one pawn against Fischer is advantage.
I always wondered how much better Fischer would've been if technology was available during his time. If you look at the patterns, ratings have sky rocketed in the 90's mostly due to all the available technological resources available. You would be lying to yourself if you truly don't believe that makes a difference.
I really like that you got straight to the point. No fancy intro, no BS. Just giving us what we want to see. Great job! Awesome video!

Absolutely love Fischer’s style always so direct , clean and efficient.
Nice videos. Well narrated. Thanks.
there's so much knowledge u have to be an uber genius to play at this level ... even if everything looks so natural and easy ... man this is superhigh lvl ...
Mato, great videos. Presented very well. I like how you stop just before the killer moves for us to learn and evaluate. Keep up the great work.

damn..... Fischer legend indeed.
a term i personally would like to see applied to certain grandmasters that have passed away.
@death8dealer 10...NXh5 11.Bxg7KXg7 12.Be2+- White is planing g4 and Qh6 with crashing attack
What a fantastic game.. He was the best player who ever lived.
+Wilbert Mallol Karl Robatsch was not retarded opponent. He was pretty strong grandmaster and beaten by fisher in just twenty moves.
oh boy, 20 moves in! what a game!!!
@R1nz0R 10...NXh5 11.Bxg7KXg7 12.Be2+- White is planing g4 and Qh6 with crashing attack
Fischer : Pawn E4
black resigned.

NiCE vid Mr. Mato.Fischer always impressing me with his unique attack and strategy ,No doubt ?,He is one of the greatest chess players of all times...

😂😂perhaps black king is putting on running shoes
It is fun to play it.
Bobby Fischer s attack is unrelenting...It is inspiring to watch how he just goes for it every single game and how intimidating it must have been for his opponents. The Mohamed Ali of chess.
I loved 'perhaps the black king is putting on his running shoes!".. good one Mato!
great game to observe, thanks for sharing. Sometimes you sound a little bit like Arnie Schwarz, which in turn only adds to the value of these videos.
I love your videos mato :)
Mato, you are a boss!
Yes, you're right. Good job spotting the typo! Thanks! :)
hello mato ! this is my first comment on one of your posts, I love all your videos please keep up the good work !
I just have one question concerning this game :
In the opening, after black fianchettoed his bishop he has 2 attackers on Fischers d4 pawn, but doesnt take it. Obviously it wasnt good to take, because Fischer didnt add another defender. just wondering.
@chad mayers
If black tries to take the d4 pawn at 0:49 as u say then. I think yhe c7 pawn is little bit weak and can be taken right away.
Mato knows what we like ... more Fischer! ;-)
Thank you for your explanation! I was wondering this myself. However, I think you meant Bxd4, not nxd4 for black's second move in the variation you cover.
Mato do you think you could do a video on some chess traps. From the simple to the more complex. Other channels can't explain it as well
What a quick and vicious attack!!
why did fisher's opponent bring out his queen so early only to bring it back to it's original position? don't you lose tempo doing that? I am a beginner so just wondering.
Another good one Mato. Could've used a little more analysis at the end imo.
Mato, great video. +examinfo Not 8Nd5...but Nb5 attacking bishop. After Bb6 not Bxc7 but 0-0-0 its game over. Nearly the same you said.
+montetank tankkiller 8.Nd5 is better than Nb5 because it stops black from defending with Na6 later.I dont think its "game over" after your 0-0-0. Black plays Na6 and c6. more fischer video, plz
please do more fischer's games please matoo!
After Queen D2 at 0:49, why didn't black take the pawn on D4 with the bishop? To avoid the pin?
Then he can castle on the queen side an he has to protect his bishop. after this he can play maybe Nb5. He have to protect c7 and then he can take on d4 for example. But maybe this variation avoids the attack on the king side a bit.
@iliginjaili it is the same if Qxd4 0-0-0 Qxd2 Rxd2 and now white is geting back the pawn in c7 plus attack
Please anyone!!!! At 1:52 why didn't black capture with the knight ?
At 0:50 , after queen to d2 , what is wrong with queen taking on d4 ?
@TheMiwaro Some players before the game think they will lose so they play worse than usually
I have a variation that I think could have helped black win the Game. In the video at minute 4:14, when it's black turn to move. What if he played Nf5 thereby both the Black Knight and Queen attack the White Queen? I think this could have given him a chance of winning. What do you think?
then queen takes queen and rook takes queen. then white takes knight at f5 with Bishop , and white piece up
Amimo Benja if Nf5 then Rxg8+
more importantly, the white rook takes black rook with G8. this gives a check and in couple of moves the black ends in loosing the queen
***** dude you are on the wrong side of youtube again..
You sound so cool when you say check mate....
After an exhaustive autopsy on the Black King the cause of death was unanimously declared a suicide 😭
LOL
@iliginjaili yeah, i saw that too! I guess he really wanted to use that Bishop for defense... lol
Fisher was a genius in chess .Well explained . Thank .
Amazing
at around 2:00 can't he already play d4d5 allowing the Queen to go to g5 threatening mate in the next move?
after white plays d5, black plays Nf-e8. And if white plays dxc, then after black regains the pawn with bxc, it creates a semi open file for black's rook. This doesn't work. Good try though!
Tks mato.
Oops, my analysis was wrong! Fischer himself wrote that after 8. ...Bb6, white plays 9. Nc7+, Bc7, 10. Bc7 with the two Bishops and all the chances.
i want to ask...do u know what kind of chess bobby played?
at 4:00 would Bg4 not a be a good move for black, blocking the double rook, and if taken, the Knight can re-take and pressure the queen?
Fisher wa a Real One Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why was this played on Move 10? 10.h5 gxh5
Why didnt knight capture the pawn on h5. If knight would have captured then the king side would have not been opened up. Dont understand why..
+Abrar Syed wanna challenge me in chess?
+Abrar Syed, if Black captured the pawn with the knight, then Fisher could capture it with the rook.
If 10...Nxh5, 11 g4 Nf6, 12 Bxg7 Kxg7, 13 Qh6+ Kg8, 14 g5
mato at 1:53 why didn't black take with the knight instead of the pawn, which weakened his king a lot?
@urwholefamilydied 2.exd5 is the best move
When he was about to give a tempo back he sacked for activity instead, pure agression and piece activity
Fischer has to be the greatest chess player of all times. I hope they will make a statue of Fischer and place it in the Lincoln or Washington memorial area as a tribute to a great American and a great world citizen.
at 4:00 would Bg4 not be a good move for black, blocking the rook, then if taken, the knight can re-take and pressure the queen?
instead of Rg5 can ficher play rg6 (threatening to remove Nf6 defending h7)?
What was the variation again?
👍 best game good
3:02 Why not BxG4?
in the long run, it wouldn't have prevented anything.
:) black could not play it because it was white's turn to play.
@iliginjaili Because if he take then Fisher Castles, then the rook is aligned with queen, either winning the bishop, or checkmating
4:15 after Knight xd5 why not Knight ge8?
That would be a blunder. Rxg8 - rook takes rook, forking king and queen, and the queen is lost.
If he takes the rook with the knight, then Qxh7 - checkmate!
@iliginjaili maybe if white q takes black qyueen, then black couldnt castle. maybe also bc7 would follow instead leaving bishop unprotected and white q on amazing diagonal
2:49 why is knight lost? he can move king h8 and remove the knight if attacked after?
Fischer went on the attack and destroyed black's kingside. The pawn storm was devastating.
@iliginjaili i believe he does not Bxd4 because after 0-0-0 the bishop is pinned down to the queen. i can see ways out of it, but i think thats why
Nice game!
losing the queen for 2 rooks is fair
i don't see any reason to resign
btw, i played similar games many time, i happy to see that it played also in higher levels

At about 1 minute in, why cant Tal's bishop take the pawn on D4 before Fischer castles?
Fisher became one of the best chess players of all time during his prime. It is too unfortunate that he was not a good person as well.
Very strong game. I did not catch the name of the opponent....was he a top player?
his name was Karl Robash and at the end he said he defeated a strong grand master in just 20 moves. i don't know many of the names but grand master is grand master no matter what his name is.

Hazedream Karpov is the best! :p
Max Payne
Karpov was a communist party weasel.
If Black grabs with 6...Bd4, then 7. O-O-O (pinning the bishop), c5, 8. Nb5 (threatening 9. c3 and 9. Nc7+) and Black has to lose the Bishop.
mato i love u u r very good
@3:48 how about Rg6!?
What about at 4:07 black knight to G4?
Watch :Deadly Trap by a Little Girl

Apparently, a lot of Fischer's moves are comparable to strong Chess engines at ~2900 elo if that gives you an idea.
What means "smashed"?
It means to kiss
After a queen side castle, there might be a discovered attack upon the black queen by the white rook after moving the white queen.
Why on 4:14 black don't just push pawn to c5 ?
LOL the point of Bxd4 wouldn't be to hope your opponent blunders their Q, but rather to win a center pawn.
O-O-O now what does black play? If he goes c5, then I think Nb5, threatening Nc7+ (fork) and c3 (to win the pinned bishop) is murder.
this seems like a repeat video i swear u had another video like this
