Distinguishing between Thoughts from the Devil and Ego | Mufti Abdur-Rahman ibn Yusuf

- Thoughts which run through a person are either inspired by Allah, our accompanying angel, the devil or from the lowly self (nafs). Reading from the works of Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi, Shaykh mentions how the seeker can distinguish between the good thought, the deceptive thought and who has initiated that thought.
The aim of the seeker is to weaken the desires of the nafs so that whenever he or she is prompted to do any good by the accompanying angel the meritorious deed is carried out. Three ways are then mentioned in which the desires of the lower self can be combated.

May I ask the title of the book please?
No disrespect but this turns piety into a science project. The ancient Greeks got it right 3000 years ago. If it’s your highest good and it has a loving intent, it comes from the heart. The heart is where God resides... in the present moment. If it’s a rationalization or comes from your mind, it is not representative of your highest good and is driven by the ego or by evil. You have the choice of which voice to listen to. That is your highest good or being driven by spirit or something else. Now, your negative experiences may repeat themselves because you maintain an intent of control, rather than opening your heart to spirit or the Divine but that is because you haven’t learned the lesson to be had in that experience. And, you maintain an intent of control driven by ego or evil..... Everything else is ego or evil.
What book is he reading from?
