  • The Choir of Worcester College, Oxford premiere this new commission by Deborah Pritchard (2004, Music) with words by College Chaplain, the Revd Marcus Green. Recorded at the Worcester College London Carol Concert at St Saviour's Church, Pimlico on 6 December 2024.
    Text:
A maiden prayed with heart as pure
as willow by a river -
Planted deep, with fruit all white,
    and leaves that never wither.
The angel of the Lord came by
    to hear this maiden praying;
A dew from heav'n fell all around
and 'Fear Not!' was his saying.
    Alleluya, Allelu
And Fear Not was his saying
Then Heaven's King did send a Prince
    with deeper ways of tuning
Swords to plows and war to peace
    and spears to garden pruning.
And we shall rest, one day, each one
beneath our vine and fig tree:
For chaos shall be stilled by a Rose,
    and gardens have the vict'ry.
    Alleluya, Allelu
    And gardens have the vict'ry
    Revd Marcus Green, 2024
    Chaplain of Worcester College Chapel
