I think it's more like she shows you that no thought is actually true since the opposite of any given thought can be true as well. So basically no thought is true and then she brings your attention back to within your body , out of the mind, and you discover a greater wisdom there beyond the duality of thought. To me , that is reality.
So good!!! Oprah is awesome as always! I'm learning about myself so much with Katie"s work!!! 2 beautiful human being that genuinely teach us peace of mind and to find our own happiness in this life!!!!
I found it helpful to have Oprah's questions and perspective as I considered my own understanding of The Work. A good starting point for people, this segment.
I was introduced to The Work in 1991. It's still the toughest practice I know of--hard to wrap the mind around, hard to get egoic thoughts out of the way. Oprah IS doing The Work, trying so hard to understand it. Yay for Oprah!
I watch this video and I simultaneously pray for: - a tribe of real friends - a way out of poverty and into wealth - a way to thrive off my talents and passions - true love, twin-flame love - the reversal of being diabetic, to shed my excess weight, to move into perfect health - the dissolving of suicidal depression, and the entering of heaven in me
I absolutely love, Katie. She has one of the most profound methods of inquiry, And she is so kind and patient with people. I can’t stand it when people interrupt her, though!
Such a great interviewer I had to stop and rewind many times.. an act of defense is the first act of war... woah...so when someone is doing something to you that’s overstepping your boundaries it’s in the past... oh my I need to sit on this one cause I struggle with getting pushed around.... but maybe I’m not being pushed around? ...thank u for this post
She helps you find a better feeling thought, thats it. The better feeling thought is your true essence. Whatever thought makes you feel like shit, question that thought and change it to a better feeling thought through The Work.

Moneca Savoie Absolutely agree. This interview when it first aired, was my introduction to Byron Katie. Oprah has the gift of knowing what her audience is thinking. Her questioning and clarifying, brought an understanding to "The Work". Especially when this type of Spiritual learning, wasn't really mainstream back then. Thank you
@@kingd5mdcn Oprah was interrupting, in fact. Bryan's natural confidence, and poise intimidates Oprah. Just so obvious by her negative body language, alone. Oprah could really benefit from a full "work" course, and for sure so could/can I.
The 💡 moment. I am whatever I believe me to be. Lol, for some reason R. Kelly came to mind.Ok, I now know I need to stay in my own lane and not R. Kelly's. Thanks Byron and Oprah for helping me to reframe my thought processes.
I don't think Oprah truly understood and grasped Byron Katie's process The Work because she's never interviewed her again like she has with Eckhart Tolle, Gary Zukav, Caroline Myss, etc - that I can find.
It seems Oprah was looking for the quick quote and boiling it down to aphoristic bits of information. We all know Byron Katie takes time: hearing, pondering, and attempting the work to really get to the essence.
@@brettc1334 Yes. The Work is truly a Deliberate Deep Dive and Long Meditative Reflection. As Katie would say . . . It's not called The WORK for nothing!
I am trying to understand the relationship with the bug and her waking up to the bug cross over her...where her body...her leg...did she jump...did the bug jump off...or did the bug wake her up and she just allowed it to keep moving on her body ??????
Simpler than that, it woke her up to the reality of now, the cockroach crossing her toe, not the heavy loaded thoughts and story her mind was wondering in, that woke her up literally and at all level, becoming aware of the room, everything that was there around her, that's all it was and that bug moving through, nothing else, nothing of what she was thinking about, none, and she started laughing, and all what she was heavily watching and believing in her mind was just a movie, not reality but a movie she manufactured keeping her away from reality. As she became aware of that, the shift occurred for her.
Oprah cannot stand another women who is stronger / smarter / on a higher level than her... Her mind will do ANYTHING to look good at this war - Ego against an awake person
@@3bonavista you are making assumptions about what is going on in Oprah's mind and heart, which you have no way of knowing to be true! If what you say were true, why would Oprah invite Byron Katie in the first place? This comment is more of a reflection on you, and the state of your own mind, than about Oprah (or Byron Katie). Why frame a conversation as a 'war'? is this how you experience your own life? Is this the filter of aggression and combat and better/ lesser than power struggles you want to project into the world? Have you considered how much courage it takes for Oprah to make herself vulnerable in front of millions of viewers? Do you make yourself vulnerable, or stay in the safety of judging others?

The NEGATIVE thoughts she teaches you to question usually come from the subconscious mind filled with QUOTES/IDEAS from your environment. (PEOPLE, PLACES, THINGS)
As I understood from listening to her on another podcast (Russell Brand's), when she was lying on the floor the sensation of something going over her foot was felt. She made the thought that it must have been a cockroach but that made her realise this thought is an assumption based on her circumstances (on the floor), her perception of her self/her foot and her prior experiences. So it's the thoughts that she had about what's happening that made it what it is, and she realised that's true of negative thoughts in life generally. Hope this helps (sorry am a rambler!) x
