This reading took place on (3/21/24) during the SOMOS Festival out of Rutgers-Newark. I love a good performance, but it's always special when I get to read at my alma mater, especially among colleagues, childhood friends, community members, and several high schools in the area. This poem, 3rd Generation is a bit of a throwback from my first collection, Every First & Fifteenth by Digging Press (an AWESOME small publisher!) Fun fact: this poem was inspired by Luso-American poet, Marina Carreira's poem, First Generation, from her first full length collection, Save the Bathwater, published by Get Fresh Books, the same publisher that is responsible for Papi Pichón. 🐓🥚
