    It's so awesome that you were able to purchase your own piece of property. It's not only for you but also will benefit the generations of your family for years to come.

    Can't tell it but I could tell he's super proud,worked hard and is absolutely jacked about hunting his property. Congratulations! I can't wait till I can get me a nice spot somewhere. Similar to him I'll probably fall in love with the habitat management. Goodluck and God bless!

    For the last 2 years I've leased a 300 acre farm to hunt just me and me alone it's basically got two levels it's got an upper pasture than a steep side hill ridge that goes down to a lower pasture on a big Creek it's fairly rectangular and has some really good deer on it in a few does it's well below carrying capacity which is unusual for this part of Central Kentucky.
    My biggest issue is cows the landowner has about 50 head of cows which doesn't sound like a lot on 300 acres but those cows go everywhere the pastures the steep hill sides, they're like mountain goats they go all over the place you can't put in food plots you can't bait which is legal here because the cows will get into everything I've actually considered talking to the landowner to see if he would let me fence off an area to either bait or put a small food plot , I am pretty sure he would but I don't know if it would be worth the time and effort because the size wouldn't be that large, the property has several pothole ponds springs and a large Creek so it's got plenty of water tons of browse all over the place cuz he hasn't mowed his pastures in 2 years so it's about waist high with all kinds of stuff, he doesn't do much with his cattle anymore and I'm hoping he gets rid of them in the near future it's kind of a hobby to him right now he's about 80 years old and he can't do a whole lot with them I think he just likes having them out of habit more than anything it's what he's done his whole life.
    This property would set up as an absolute dream trophy Buck property I've got several on camera from last year that are high 160s maybe low 170s and a lot of 130 140 class bucks , and the rut last year was amazing on this property so many quality bucks cruisingthe problem is I won't say you can't pattern them but they're hard because they don't like being around the cows whenever I see cows I don't see deer and vice versa.
    I will however continue to lease this farm because I'm getting it for a third the going rate for a quality lease here in Kentucky.
    In the meantime I've got about six cameras I'm running right now and I'll get over and check them out here in about a week season opens the first Saturday in September hopefully I can get one or two of my good bucks located.

      Thanks Donnie - I am thinking about them for sure. Next year I’m going to try and enroll in a CRP field border program to soften the field edges and help with erosion. When that’s done I’ll work on some water hole projects too. I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated!

    Looks like a great setup and property Matt ! Are those permanent food plots? Would be nice to have some apple and pear trees too. Good luck and great job on the video !

      @mmiller8880 2 роки тому +1

      Hey Ken - I’m planning some CRP field border work next year that will help feather the edges and protect from erosion. Once that’s done and I have a full season hunting the place the plots will be more permanent, but I’m guessing they won’t move much. After that work is done a few fruit trees are definitely on the list of future projects!

    What a great piece of land. And you get enough rain to actually grow a food plot. Just saying those box blinds might as well be on the ground no higher than they are. I don’t understand why anyone would even make such a low frame? I bow hunt deer only but rifle hunt coyotes and hogs from my archery blinds. I have 3 box blinds and the lowest one is 12 feet to the floor. Others are both 15 feet. For two reasons. At these heights it’s so much easier to move around to the right window without the deer ever knowing and because of the lay of the land I can mostly see for literally hundreds of yards in most directions for shooting coyotes. Coyote control is needed because of the calves that we loose.Anyway,IMO being high is a big plus.

    • @mmiller8880
      @mmiller8880 2 роки тому +2

      Hey Tim - Thanks for watching. I’ve hunted out of all heights of blinds over the years and for bow hunting I feel I get better angles on a 5-8’ platform. It’s a bit easier this way when they are close and under 20 yards to get things lined up with the horizontal windows. And if you keep the windows behind you blacked out you can get away with a LOT of movement and not get busted. Good luck this season!

    Here I am looking at property and if it's within 900 miles its over 50k an acre, or clear cut for 25k :/... meanwhile can't draw a quota hunt, meanwhile I suppose I won't be bow hunting sigh.. Farmers here would rather you put a body in the ground than let you bow hunt.. Strange times I tell ya.
