Thanks for the honest opinion. For old school people might really find it weird but i think the song caters to the younger generation its like a trot but modernized feel to it .. i think yg is very brave to put a spin to it . And still the song is very Jisoo .. she’s a more traditional than you think but she’s a global star and needs to put out songs that cater to this generation . She has a choice to put out a modern / typical pop songs but chose this. And i think the reason that some people dont like this is that they’re are not used to this sound and expect the usual yg sound . But i like it very much

Thank you. No Sorrys here. Yes, mixing of trot and modern sophistication in sound. But I also meant in dance and fashion/visual too. She does cool dance and another moment flaping her wings like a butterfly. Some thing in fashion too. Very high class to borderline tacky. Some items would have been just tacky if Jisoo didn't pull it off. Just what I felt. Mixing two extreme is very difficult so I expect the response of people to be polarizing also.

I am so glad it is doing well. Visually it was a slam dunk but I worried that the music might be too eccentric for some. Trot is not a genre that westerners get exposed to. Well, now I know my worries are unfounded. Blackpink can't seem to fail. I gotta hear other songs now. ^^

  • @hosiebbchoni

Interesting take you have. I'm glad this song is doing great globally after a month. Yep, this song is not for everyone (listeners and artists) and if other idol did it, it wouldn't hit (very true) that's why this song fits with jisoo. Coming from a jisoo fan perspective, she likes repetitive rhythm and vocal inflections. Her scenes with different styles and colors represents the different types of flowers-its meaning and it forms a story that centers the lyrics of the song.
So, I get what you mean by clash of music and visual because having a first watch is not enough. Jisoo's artistry tends to interpret things not in a literal sense, so it makes sense when you interpret it as a daring concept
This isn't an argumentative comment but an informative one, to add context to the song and music video. After all, we all have our own personal likes. Thanks for reacting to it!

Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. I believe, there are some misunderstandings though. I was trying to convey the clash of different styles. Not clash between the music and the visuals. There are many different types of Korean Trot. The sound they were using was similar to a specific genre that is especially funcky? or a bit tacky. Usually enjoyed by older ladies in busses and stuff from past. I wish I could show you, Lol. This sound was mixed with very sophisticated modern sound. I thought I saw a similar trend in her fashion and the dance sequence too. Mix of very sophisticated and something tacky. Now don't get me wrong. Tacky does not mean bad. It would be like mixing certain 70's music and fashion with modern sound and high-end fashion. I actually thought it was very interesting because my example of using 70's stuff and modern is between two different western cultural themes. In this case it was between western/modern and older and somewhat obscure Korean sound/fashion/colors. I was not sure how this unique approach will be received by the world, because it was a bit jarring for me too. Especially since I have a first hand knowledge of these old Korean trot sound and look. However, in hindsight, there is a reason why I am just a reactor and YG is YG. After a while, it sounded more natural and started to enjoy the song very much. Very memorable style and dance in these days of cookie-cutter songs. Please feel free to comment on how you feel. I love discussing different viewpoints and how we receive and understand music. That is the whole point of this channel. ^^ BTW, now I can understand many people's confusion because you guys had no reference to these very specific type of trot music/and fashion from the past. I should have been more descriptive in explaining what I felt. Anyway, thank you again for your thoughtful and very polite comment. I really appreciate it.

@@komerican-og wow, I understand your view better with your reply! This is the first time I heard the term, "trot" so I did a few research regarding the term before commenting just to have an understanding to it (that's a new term for my vocabulary now 😆). I guess I failed to take account the specific culture, since my research was a generalization of japanese and korean trot.
I definitely get that it was jarring, the fan community doesn't even know what type of music she would release cause the teasers she gave has this elegant vibe accompanied it with a korean instrument. I think it was geomungo(?) They also used this instrument on their pink venom music (hope you will react to it too. would like to hear your thoughts about using tradtional instrument in this modernizing industry as a korean-american) and she was the one who played it in the music video. so, we thought it would sound like a modern-folk dance song.
If you notice, the quality/texture of the video it gave off the vibe of the past. It's not the camera that we use today with the super clear hd and all that, but it has a touch of grainy texture which adds a layer of obscurity to it like we can clearly see it, but it still blurry in a sense that it created this imaginary boundary between the audience and what the artist wants us to see.
Since you mentioned the 70's it does reflect of that time but I think it's more on 60's going to the 70's 🤔like the inspiration of the video theme is that of Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany (a classic and an icon. btw, there is also a picture of audrey's famous silhouette shot in the first clip) musicality and fashion period. In addition, the last clip, when she removed the flower necklace, is a reference to dior's perfume commercial with natalie portman. Given that she's an ambassador for the brand and the brand is one of the sponsors for the music video (albeit a rumor).
I'm a fan of jisoo as a solo artist and blackpink, so I definitely tend to... I guess "beautify" (I don't know if it's the right term) their work. So, I find it really interesting to watch reaction videos from someone who has a different perspective and connection to the artist. I tend to receive negative response from the reactors and their viewers even if I stated, "informative", they think it's an attack to them. Instead of having an engaging conversational topic and exchange of views, mostly I get, "you're a fan", "biased opinion", "flop" and etc. it's disappointing that some people forget that music is subjective and there's nothing wrong if you like or dislike it

@hosiebbchoni no problem. I welcome opinions. That's what makes it fun. BTW, the instrument you play with a stick is geomungo... kinda like a base guitar and one you play with your fingers is gayageum. Acoustic guitar of traditional music. The other one has really thick lines so you use a stick. Hope it helped.

I did mention about how the dresses that jisoo used is a resemblance to a flower.
each dress she wore has a flower signature. For the first part, it shows a budding of a flower, the sort of innocence of it, cocooned in the room and being in a relationship. the black dress was the growth of its stem like the first small stem from the ground, going out of our safe space/comfort zone being able to take the first step of letting go of someone or something. It is quite a scary and this fear of the unknown to proceed but we must do it. the green floral dress inside the building is the full bloom flower but sheltered like how we put flowers inside our homes. we do take care of it but it gets suffocated inside (torn necklace). Opposite to it, is the scenes outside, there's a feel of freedom and boldness like when flowers are just grown outside, they get more vitality, color (lilac, red, vibrant light blue, pink, glittering color) and lushness. Also, part of the lyrics too
overall, the music, lyrics and video makes me feel like it's a breakup song but its not a sad one. like your breaking up/letting go for your own good. There is strength and beauty in moving forward. It is quite hard but it will get better eventually. There was nothing left but a scent of flower as jisoo said 😊😊 we always leave a mark in someone's life be it a good or a bad moment.

"Everything everywhere all at once" was a foundational framework for the music video. Perhaps the song and music video would seem less nonsensical with that context in mind. People can have differing opinions on whether the song suits their individual tastes, but to consider the music video and music production as something shallow completely misses the point, both artistically and intellectually with respects to the product. Moreover, it reveals a lack of understanding and appreciation for Jisoo's diverse charms, the laudable intentions of blending modern with traditional, and her overall uplifting and yet sensible character.

Controversial statement: I have a fairly strong
notion that the subtext of the video is that rather
than it being an ordinary love story, Jisoo is playing a sex worker, a 'flower girl.' In past centuries in China, Japan and Korea, the title 'sing-song girl' (Chinese:), or 'flower girl,' was a slang term for a courtesan. The yellow building which Jisoo stands outside of, looking in at a set of pearls, was painted that colour specifically for this MV shoot. It strongly suggests the 1996 Korean film 'Yellow House,' which is about a sex worker who struggles with her identity when she is forced to leave the Yellow House brothel of the title. Jisoo is playing the role of someone who is deeply conflicted by her profession, with all the waiting around in hotel rooms and lobbies, avoiding eye contact with maids and elevator operators, plus all the inevitable heartbreak and loneliness. At the same time she is still attracted to the money she makes and the sense of power it brings, as this may be her only alternative to poverty. The tearing off of the choker at the end is a signal of the character taking charge of her independence. She is no one's pet or possession.
PS: This is a description of a role
that actress Jisoo is playing. It is not actually a
description of our wonderful Jisoo, the brilliant and talented actor and singer from Blackpink.

May be controversial but well thought out and entirely possible. The issues of comfort women, the root of Trot (Started from Japanese occupation) etc. color scheme etc. would support that theory. There is simple happiness side of trot but there is deeply sentimental and sad style too. If I had this intention, I would personally not use that vocal instrumentation. The subject matter is too sensitive or tragic for inclusion of that kind of sound. However, who knows what is going on inside people's head. All we can do is observe, enjoy and discuss interesting and enlightening thoughts on the subject. As we are doing now. ^^ Thank you for a very interesting theory.

From your first words, this is exactly how I felt with the teasers, as she was going to show 100 outfits and that's about it. If they wanted a model to sing some incoherent words (the lyrics made no sense for the most part)... well, they got that. I feel the company (I don't want to think the idol too, but who knows) disrespect their fans a lot and rely on media play and just "hype". Like "ooooh, finally, she gets to shine"... and well, not really, but the fans are going to be blinded by the bling bling of all, I wouldn't call it love but strong idealized movement which isn't really moving forward.
Her solo moments were too cringey, not sure if she was trying to portray a drunk person? In that case, it would have a pass, but it was all so not coordinated, it was painful to see for me.

to bridge the gap. We're they successful? In my opinion, only partially. Meaning, not a homerun, However, I respect the guts to try something new, and the judgment ultimately falls on the public. It is a pop song. However, why do something unproven with Jisoo. I think they have to actually take some time for themselves and reflect on what they want to do: be a doll/puppet of sorts (which isn't easy as it takes a huge toll on your mind) or be a singer/dancer/model/actress/... or any other thing they decide!
