  • After taking a break from stargazing for a while, I finally had a chance to set up my telescope and enjoy the sight of Saturn on a clear, cool night. In this quick timelapse, I hope to inspire anyone who hasn't used their telescope in a bit, showing how easy it can be to get back into it. Let's all appreciate the beauty of the night sky together, and stay tuned for upcoming videos where I'll share tips on using the Celestron 8SE telescope to capture stunning planetary views and improve your celestial photography.

Let's GOOOOOO! That's easier to setup than I thought it would be.

Typically I picked up a Nexstar 6SE 2 months back and since then I've either been away on clear nights or it's been cloudy. Such is the life of the amateur astronomer in the UK!

I totally understand. All spring it rained and there were no clouds. As soon as the clouds left the ground started to boil in the Texas heat, and the nights were 100 degrees. It's hard to look through a telescope when your sweat is dripping into your eyes lol.

Saturn would've been fun for sure! My daughter had a heart transplant at the end of May. She's doing great! But we took the summer to recupe. Now she's got so much energy she's wearing me out lol.

Am thinking of buying a Nexstar 8se. Am watching other folks use, to get impressions.

It's a solid starting telescope for sure. Do you know what you're wanting to focus on?

@@AstroExplorers I started in this hobby about three months ago. I wanted to do deep space astro-photography and had a budget of $300. I am on Social Security.
Everyone said, "Buy a Dobsonian!". So, I bought a First Light 10" Dobsonian. It weighed 61 pounds. I am old and frail and could not dag it into my back yard. I gave it to a friend.
Found out that Dobsonians are not good at deep space photography and bought a Celestron Omni 150mm XLT Newtonian reflector on a GT-4 mount. It was also too heavy, weighing 42 pounds.
So, I bought an Orion Observer 134mm Newtonian reflector with a motorized EQ-3 mount at 23 pounds. Nice. But, with my cataracts, Bortle 5 town and lots of local light pollution, I can only see 4 stars on a clear night, so it is hard to star hop.
So, I bought a Sky Watcher AZ GTI mount and a Bresser 102/460 refractor. Weight only 15 pounds. Wonderful! But, I cannot align it. I need to align on two or three stars. I cannot see any between 30 and 60 degrees, so I have to choose starts I cannot see with the naked eye. I select three stars and the scope slews to each. I can see lots of stars in the eyepiece, but have no idea which star is the one I am supposed to be aligning on.
I am thinking of buying a heavy Celestron Nexstar 8se because it has a large aperture and I have heard you can align on 3 bright stars by slewing to each manually. I assume the 4 stars I can see (all of which are higher than 60 degrees off the horizon)
      are bright stars.
And, I assume that a larger aperture will help see things in my bad sky.
I know that SC telescopes have a narrow field of view, but have calculated that a .63 reducer will allow photography of most of the Messier catalogue and a Hyperstar could allow photographs of the larger objects.
I am a retired computer programmer and am a wiz at programming AI, but know squat about astronomy and even less about photograph.
By the way, I have already exceeded my $300 budget.

@@AstroExplorers I'm thinking of purchasing the Nexstar 8SE as well. I'd like something that has the flexibility to observe both deep sky objects and planets. Based off of your videos, it look like this scope will do that pretty well. I'd also like to do some "light weight" astrophotography, which again this scope seems to manage. It's also within my budget. Any other advice would be appreciated.

I am thinking about purchasing the 8se also. I think that I will ride out to Brazos Bend State Park this weekend and see if anyone else has this telescope and order 1 next week.

It's a fun scope for sure. And trying out someone else's first is a great idea.

I purchased the 8SE with a Starsence and a power pack. Plus lens kit. Now, what camera would you astro camera would you suggest for planets. I have the attachment for my DSLR. My Canon R6 will not work with the adapter but my Canon 5D will fit. I would rather use the R6 because there is no mirror in it.

Please help me with this one. Actually I am having a problem with auto two star align. Whenever i choose Deneb and go to Vega, the telescope goes in the wrong direction (to be precise, it mirrors the location of Vega) and vice-versa. Choosing any other star doesn't help too. Any idea what i might be doing wrong? Or maybe a tip? (and whenever i manually take it their, it just shows Alignment Failed)

You might need to double check your longitude and latitude that you're putting in. That might be causing the issue.
