It’s funny watching all the haters on here talking about how simple he is playing. Yes he is playing simple and in the changes. It’s a fucking pop gig, dude would pipe everyone of you on giant steps and donna lee and no one on here is touching his range. To the time haters, you win that one, he has effects on so you are hearing a octave under his clean tone, sounds like a little distortion and a slap back delay. Check him out playing something else before you write him off based on one solo.
Hahahahahaahahahahahahah. Give me 4 weeks to get my chops back after literally not touching a horn for the last 5 years and I could rip the upper register easily. 🤣🤘 He's a way better soloist than I ever was though. No doubt about that.
I don't see any haters. Either you came across this video randomly and don't know much about the trumpet, in which case you just think ok neat solo, or you are a musician or more serious connoisseur and you immediately know Ross is dumbing it down for a pop audience. He came to my school last school back in the 2018-2019 school year and I walked in front of himn while he was warming up and couldnt hear for a solid minute! He is an incredible player and an awesome teacher and person! It was great meeting him!
Rashawn is a very good musician. His playing here fits the music. It doesn't call for a Booker Little solo or a Peter Evans solo. Rashawn is playing the gig and that's what good musicians do. I've head him play over the American songbook/standards and he does that very well. Is this the end all to solos? No. Does it fit the music well? Yes. Does it call for anything else? Not that I can tell. So what does that make Rashawn? A pro.

I was a bit worried since I’d only had the mouthpiece for 24 hours and the mouthpieces come all the way from the French Alps(congrats on the World Cup btw🇫🇷). There was an adjustment period the first half of the gig as play testing in a room is waaaaaay different than going at full game speed(especially when you have to keep up with#CarterBeauford on the drums). Lance Goerner Actually, it’s the microphone he’s using, the fact that it’s off-axis and however the mixer had it EQ’ed. Acoustically, he has a bright, full sound.
@@krystof1270 you act like everyone has to appreciate exactly what you people are salivating about. To me it was quite impressive but not crazy enough to blow my socks off.
Pierre The Producer and that is a difference in appreciation. You may not understand the ‘wow’ factor in his performance because you haven’t given an amount of time into practicing technique based on range or articulation or sound. Those who are trying to reach those heights/goals find appreciation and admiration in these artists, which can sprout inspiration, while others who have achieved it or those who don’t understand it/aren’t musically inclined may not have the same thoughts. Like plenty of people listen to jazz, but not all people who listen play instruments and someone who doesn’t play trumpet probably won’t appreciate someone like let’s say wynton marsalis for his skills and just like how his music sounds.
@@rickbrooner8717 The thing is that you don't have to know an instrument or how to manipulate It In such a way to appreciate the sound coming out of it. All you need to know is how does it sound to your particular ears. It all just really comes to what people are blown away by and what they like. Some of this stuff people call "crazy solo" isn't as crazy for everybody and again it doesn't matter what you know about music. So in the end no one and I mean no one should trash someone for not thinking the same way as they do about a certain song, instrument etc... music is subjective and so are our thoughts.
Pierre The Producer come on did you even read what I said? Cuz you just repeated exactly what I wrote out. The only difference you missed was the reason I wrote it out “that is difference in appreciation” being if you’re musically inclined to a specific instrument you have a different understanding of that ‘wow’ factor because you as an artist can relate in a more intimate way than someone just listening because they enjoy the music. I even gave you an example of your understanding and what you weren’t understanding
This is a fairly tepid solo. He's playing in the changes the entire time. Also he's mirroring the melody quite a bit and weaving in and out. Solid effort, not really enjoying his tone. I get that it needs to be bright to probably cut through the live mix but as far as a jazz tone is concerned he needs to warm it up a lot. Only speaking from over 25 years experience playing the trumpet myself...
If you don't have an ego are you even a trumpet player though? Come on. Bunch of babies. Being able to take criticisms makes us better as a race. But also having an opinion is perfectly fine too. Not sure what the issue is when I'm not exactly pandering to you guys am I? Professional experience aside this could also be a live mixing issue or just how he inherently sounds. And I'm not usually insufferable to be around. Only some of the time.
Chris Day honestly it shows how little pro experience you have. Why would Rashawn need to play outside of the changes when he's playing with freakin Dave Matthews Band? He's playing the perfect solo for the playing situation. And your whole comment comes across as condescending. If you had actually been a working pro for 25 years you would know that to play in a rock band a bright tone is pretty much a necessity. Your local club with 25 people? Okay warm jazz tone. Loud stage with thousands watching? That's gonna be a long night. The reason you've bothered people with your comment is because you act like you know more than the player here when (based on your comment) you don't really know shit. "solid effort"? Fuck outta here.
