  • This 4K video of the Solar Eclipse of 2017, the Great American Eclipse, was shot using a Panasonic G85 that was mounted piggyback to my Nikon D7200 and Sigma 150-600 Sport lens so I could shoot stills and video at the same time. You will notice the shutter sound of the D7200 that was taking pictures once every 3 seconds using an intervalometer.
I traveled from my home near Salt Lake City to a location between Mackay and Chilly in Idaho. I'd scouted this location with Google Earth and using the online Eclipse path tool to find a spot away from the major cities but right dead center of the path of totality. As it turns out about 150 other people must have had the same idea as there were about that many people there. There was pretty heavy traffic there and back so the turnout must have been in the hundreds of thousand to Idaho alone.
In the video you can see a number of interesting features -- at the 1:30 position I see what looks like a solar flare and at a nuber of other places around the corona there are red patches that may either by sunlight peering through valleys on the Moon or perhaps other flares. But, perhaps the most interesting feature appears at the 4:30 and 10:30 positions and I believe the radial lines visible in the corona are indicators of the magnetic poles of the Sun.
