In this Home Sweet Home Guitar Lesson I will not only demonstrate how to play all the guitar riffs and solos note-for-note, but I will also show you an easy way to play the piano part on the guitar as well. :)
"Home Sweet Home" was originally released on Motley Crue's 1985 album Theatre of Pain. "Home Sweet Home" became a massive success for Motley Crue and it's status as a power ballad became a formula that many other 80's bands would follow.
In the first video lesson I will demonstrate how to play the opening piano section, the acoustic guitar verse overdubs and chorus. The piano part can actually be performed almost note-for-note on the guitar without much difficulty. I do use a fingerstyle approach to play the piano parts so if you don't have much experience with fingerpicking it may be a bit of a challenge. However, the picking pattern is a very simple one that repeats over and over so it can be a nice introduction to the technique of fingerstyle guitar.
Over the opening piano verse you will also hear a nice complimentary arpeggio picked acoustic guitar riff. This riff is an excellent picking exercise that is not very difficult to play.
The 3rd and final thing I will show you in the first lesson video is the chorus riff. It is quite unique in it's construction with it's combination of power chords and staccato descending licks. However, once again there isn't too much to worry about here on a technical level.
In the 2nd lesson video I will demonstrate how to play the guitar solo note-for-note. As most Mick Mars solos are, it is a highly melodic solo with a little bit of flash as well. Mick Mars has always had a knack of writing solos that are instantly recognizable and become a big part of the song.
There are a couple of fast licks within the solo but they are very repetitive which should help you grasp them very quickly. Just isolate those sections of the solo and practice them over and over again in a loop while trying to keep everything as precise as possible. Pretty soon the muscle memory will kick in and you won't have to think about it very much at all. Those fast notes will just seem to pop out of your fingers.
So I hope you enjoy this Home Sweet Home Guitar Lesson. Get your lighters out for this one!!
    Carl..

It really is. I'd say it's as classic as some of the biggest ones ever, but I know the trolls would come to eat me if I did. I'll just hide under the Stairway to the Hotel California and keep my opinions to myself. ;)

Dude... When I was a kid, I wish I had you as my teacher. Just get right to explaining a song I love, step by step, in a very simple manner.
If I learned this in the lessons I wasted my time taking, I'd have been super thrilled and just playing this over and over and over... this would allow people to get the feel of guitar, which inevitably would lead to getting better and better....
Instead, most guitar teachers bore kids with 'the basics', scales, learning what note is what, etc. And that's all important. Obviously. But I don't think that should be 'the first steps'. They're just too boring, and frankly, out of context to a beginner because a beginner has nothing to relate it to. He knows nothing.
The first steps should be just learning note by note, like this video does it, just one song the beginner wants to know.
THEN... Once a kid is at least able to rip out one song, he can learn the basics, which he'd be more easily able to appreciate why he needs to know them... And he'd already have the hand/muscles exercised enough to be able to do them.
Basically, my point is that teaching beginners guitar.... should be like this. This video is enough for a total beginner to learn, and play. So anyone interested in learning guitar should pick 1 song they actually love... Learn to play that from one of these types of UA-cam clips, learn that one song up and down, backwards and forwards, in and out, and then other bits of guitar basics will fall into place to fill in the gaps more easily. Maybe I'm not being clear. If not, sorry.
