if a air defense system from the kosovo war used in the 60s and 50s shot a f-16, and a f-117a nighthawk and damaged another f-117a(rumor has it the b-2 as well) 743 harm missiles were fired at the soviet 50s and 60s air defense systems. So 784 times 284000$=222656000 USD. A stinger(SAM)in service from 1981 to present costs 38,000 USD but since Russia is known for making cheaper shit and the air defense systems were around 50s to 60s and 815 shots were fired along with the some s75s and s125s being destroyed. all I got to say is I think the major embarrassment NATOs harm missiles used and the cost of 2 f-117a's with a f-16c is nothing compared to the costly lost of Kosovo. Theres a reason why NATO and US are avoiding Russia and using sanctions the same fucking countries that made the soviet union collapse by sanctions before stopping there trade. I hate to say this but NATO and the US truly fear this country when Vietnam had soviet tech equal made time as the US. The US had major debt and it was more of a lost. Russia is a different story from all the countries the U.S. has faced military. So don't underestimate the s-300 as well as the soon to come s-350 knight, s-400 and s-500. Threatening Russia with sanctions is a pussy thing to do and that's why I want my politicians to STFU and spare the embarrassment for the country I live in same for my parents country under NATO

The S-300 (and it's advanced variants such as the S-400 and 500) are so far ahead of American SAM Systems it isn't even funny. Even the the S-300 is a full generation more advanced that the latest Patriot system, and it is already being replaced.
Remember, even the old 1960's era SA-3 missile was able to detect and shoot down the F-117 is Kosovo when it was state of the art and considered 'invisible'. An F-22 would be completely helpless against an S-400 or S-500 system.

    • @Jaxymann

      1. The Serbians knew where the NATO aircraft were flying to and from.
      2. The F117 had it's bomb bay doors open.
      3. Of the 2 missiles fired, 1 missed.

Some comments as usual are downgrading this Russian Missiles because it looks so low on tech. The absence of touch screens in the control room confirms that. However the fact is NATO don't want Russia to sell the same missile to IRAN. I wonder what can be the reason, if it look so inefficient.

Hazy Davey I don't like him either and didn't vote for him he has screwed up so many things, and many things he has done have been against his own people and hurting our economy. But I wish Putin had not invaded Crimea because it will cause more problems in the future between the U.S and Russia. I understand Putin is trying protect Russians in the Ukraine but the way he has gone about it is like the KGB which he was in it is totally obvious the the UN that Russian forces have invaded. He needs to be diplomatic and be concerned when weapons he gave the Russian separatist shoot down airliners filled with over 200 passengers. Obama is stupid and most Americans want him impeached but the Democrats are preventing it. We need Russian help to stop Islamic terrorist groups. If Putin would understand that and work with the U.S and its Allies to confront this threat that has overwhelmed Syria and now Iraq. I know this would not have happened in Iraq had they allowed the U.S to keep forces there. Our weak president and his foreign policies have not just hurt our economy but our Allies including Russia. I don't look at Russia as an enemy but the U.S doesn't want Russian weapons being sold to possible conflict zones that's why the U.S started developing stealth. By the late 80's the cold war was over but it never really ended as we have seen with Russians actions against Georgia and now the Ukraine. The only way U.S and Russia can coexist is to work together. I just hope Russia can elect a future leader that realizes that too. China is right at Russia's back door not the USA who would you be afraid of, the guy who is not wanting conflict or the guy at your back who is growing faster than you are think about it...

We're not talking proxy wars here, if you think you can win a land war against the United States than you are sorely mistaken and in for a wild ride.

not sure about now, but not too long ago NASA was using 8086, so 486's granddaddy. Why didn't they move to "better" modern CPU?
      - it doesn't need a heat sink and fan
      - it's been tested and tested and tested for many years by millions of people. You know it will not break when you need it to.
As Einstein said, "keep it as simple as possible, but not simpler".
If 8086 does the job, or 486 does the job, that's what you should use. Not some flashy new complicated thing.

S-500 is still in development. This system is composed of several units. One of them is used as anti-aircraft weapon. The other - for ICBM interceptions.
Yes, F-117 - is only stealth aircraft being shoot down. But this airplanes is not used in scale operations when air defence of enemy are stronger than nothing. And I repeat: S-125 is very old SAM.
Weapon based on kinetic energy was developed many centuries ago. Bows, catapults and others.

Don't forget, other countries also have this technology also. It's also bye bye to Russian,Chinese, and European jets.Russians don't have a monopoly on this. The US now has fully operational lasers.Don't forget, lasers travel at the speed of light. So,as awesome as these S-300 missiles may be.All can be knocked out within seconds if they were in range of a laser weapon.Russia also has laser weapons.Next generation laser weapons will make missiles and jets almost obsolete.

    • @sovietarchangel
      @sovietarchangel 10 років тому +6

FRANK1FM russia now uses the S-400 and other upgrades as well as the S-300 itself. It remains the as the best long range air defence weapon ever devised. Until other superior systems are developed (be it lazer or missile) it remains the nightmare of any SEAD pilot. Also consider that to defend against this you would need at least 1 dedicated lazer carrier plane to defend against it in every squadron (very expensive). That is far in the future and by that time the S-300 would have already been replaced with far deadlier tech.

It can't fly for an hour without requiring in excess of thirty hours maintenance either .. lol .. with not even 200 produced and, of those, only 80 able to be kept at consistent 'peacetime' readiness, they're expensive show pieces totally impractical for any 'real' wartime environment .. lol.

For the record,The Polonium like any radioactive element, never disappears,Using the known half life and the present concentration.you can calculate the exact dosage around the time he died.
Actually he did exhibited similar symptoms, that is why his items were tested after the Litvinenko case. The similarities were noted and Polonium poisoning is rarely seen to make a diagnosis

I am actually born in Russia and Russian by nationality. I have also been taught by my family to be polite and not to call people idiots. I have a Lithuanian friend. He is a pilot. Surprisingly (to you), he is forward thinking and doesn't blame the long-gone dictatorship and doesn't try to throw more shit on the fan. You should be less extreme in expressing your feelings of aggression my friend. Don't underestimate the world of mine, you don't know it. You aren't a god, it's that simple.

If its target is moving in a straight line, like another missile for example, than you're absolutely correct - this weapon system is extremely effective.
However, if you're talking about an aircraft that can turn than that's a different story. The jet is protected by the laws of physics. It is difficult to change the trajectory of a missile which is simply a large object moving at a high violcity. This principle applies to all guided missile systems. regardless of politics.

I think its about 350 to 400 km and 30 km for the altitude, for aircrafts,it's in general less for balistic missiles,I dont know why but may be cause of the high speed of those missiles.

These are the main medium-range air defense systems currently deployed in Russia, by the way. These are designed to enforce no-fly zones and would require strategic munitions to neutralise. It isn't as simple as to fly a SEAD sortie on them and be done with them. Also they require a search radar and a tracking radar, along with the command post and launchers,so aren't really designed to be used "on-the-go". The IAF knows better to steer clear of such a threat and will neutralize it by other means

  • @ivy77brace

Some facts, S300 and S400 are designed to take down enemy airplanes from distances up to 300km, including enemy AVA X plains. So that means before enemy has a chance to fire their AM-RAM missiles, which have a range up to 100 km. one battery of S300 can take down 8 enemy aircraft in some 8-10 min. and then move out of harms way.

According to the Army, it's CEP is 250. But the only reason to have massive warheads is to compensate for lack of accuracy. Most warheads now are only 100 kt +/-.
