Joyce Wa Mamaa, born in Kongoini village, Kiharu, Murang’a County, Kenya, is a celebrated Kikuyu Benga musician known for her deep, emotional lyrics and captivating voice. Over the years, she has built a strong fan base, making her one of the most influential female artists in Kenya’s vernacular music scene.
Joyce Wa Mamaa’s journey into music was not planned. Coming from a humble background, she did not initially consider music as a career. However, fate led her into the industry in 2009 when she was introduced to Kikuyu musician Wangari Wa Kabera. Under Wangari’s mentorship, Joyce started her career as a backup singer, gaining experience and refining her vocal skills. Her passion for music grew, and after some time, she ventured into a solo career, marking the beginning of her rise to fame.
Her breakthrough came when she released songs that resonated deeply with the Kikuyu community. The themes of love, betrayal, hardships, and resilience in her lyrics quickly earned her a place in the hearts of many fans.
