This whole album but especially this song puts me on a mental high like none other. This song is deep dark and absolutely genius. If you do not like this song , it is way over your head. This is absolutely genius.
This is a forever album, full of songs like this intimate and honestly rendered conversation with self, how the best parts of ourselves work tirelessly to teach ourselves the truth of what it means to be this human animal. Yup. There's often humility involved in how we need to respect and care for and love ourselves. We are animals, after all, not ethereal beings driving a walking, talking meat machine. We are this animal, with these needs, we don't get to choose that, we simply accept it and learn what we need to do to make it work, to be fully functional. It's our prejudice against the physical, against the flesh, culturally inculcated, which makes us want to believe we are something more than this, and so that humility is called for, in self-acceptance. Love is a physical thing. Feelings are physical. It's the touch, the glance, the gesture, the words, the act, by which we feel and know we are loved; these are physical things. And looking forward, as we learn more and know better, we can transcend our prejudicial attitudes toward our physical nature as we begin to understand that this doesn't debase the spiritual, but rather the physical is elevated and expanded to embrace and ultimately subsume the spiritual. It is prejudice which prevents us from seeing ourselves as physical bodies, and that prejudice thwarts our learning, holds us back from a clear conception of the real, grand and wonderful nature of the physical.
With Others (ears)" You can have my love As long as I can tell you what to do If you know what I need You'll use it against me Yes it's sad enough There just ain't enough love in the world If you want some from me I'll need some context I've been learning about Psychology, sociology, and the rest Now I can't rest 'Cause everyone reeks of power trips Where do I fit in your power trip? Wow. Esperanza. I hope this reaches as many people as it can, because everyone needs to hear it. It perfectly captures the skepticism and cynicism of today. We are all uncertain and insecure. We all need love. We all need to listen. The idea that you wrote this incredible album "to tide us over" for your next big conceptual project... I mean... that is probably going to be one hell of an experience.
Simon D Those negative traits are indeed too wide spread these days. I feel one small step we should all take which would have tremendous results (imo) is if we just stared being a little more courteous toward one another -- In real life AND online. Not a huge thing by itself....but it will make a huge difference....I think it will, anyway.
Can't stop watching this. Her facial expressions are everything. it's so funny, but then it's not. She captures the essence of love, its both happy and sad, pain and pleasure, basic and complex. The energy on this one reminds of a book I read by Zora Neal Hurtson, "I love myself when I'm lauging...And then again when I'm looking mean and impressive".
Wow,wonderful, what a beautiful voice...weird,so divine,indescritible...my preffered and adorable artist missy Esperanza Spalding sing from the deep of her lungs !!!
Visuals are on point! Still wrapping my head around your dissonant sound. Not sure where you draw inspiration from, but I'm really diggin it!! You're everything music should be right now!!!😮
Oh my God, is like if she is experiencing with psicodelics o something more deep like meditation. Is like if she is traveling to other paralel dimension but still here like a reflection and proyection of her soul. Is real and so ephimere.
Saludos.
Been a fan of Esperanza for years...have most of her early albums on vinyl, except “Esperanza”. I wish I had the musical fluidity to appreciate these last two albums, but I just can’t find something to catch hold on to. That said, she’s an artist in the purest sense of the word. Artists should create what they feel, not what others want to hear. I wish I could have more vintage, groovin ES though!😞

So this song is about an educated woman that’s about to outsmart herself out of human connection because she struggling with the concept of whether or not love ❤️ is an actual thing. However, in a roundabout way, she ultimately chooses to believe that it is?
@@Pssybart Zappa certainly; also Mahavishnu Orchestra, maybe even King Crimson. A little more posturing than I normally care for in the lyrical aspect, but if "prog" is our watchword then she's progressed from highbrow Norah Jones to spearheading a one-woman jazz-rock revival, and for that reason alone should merit anyone's consideration.
THIS IS AN OBSCURE, SOPHISTICATED AND BORDERING ON THE OCCULT, SORT OF AN ALBUM; JANGLING NEW PERSPECTIVES LYRICALLY AND SONICALLY-EVOLVING US ALL BACK INTO A CENTER, THAT CANNOT BE SEEN, BUT FATHOMED...A KIND OF SUN THAT REFUSES TO SHINE NAKED; DRESSING ITSELF UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH THAT COLD AND WHITE MOON...
Either way, studying music or being high, both get you a form of deeper understanding of this music. Having both understanding of music and being high, now that is where it's at 😎✌✌ peace and love hehee

This song makes me laugh so much, her sense of humour is just phenomenal. I’ve never heard a saxophone played so satirically

Yes! The entire album! YES! Love this! Spot on
We'll catch on to what she just did years later. She's way ahead of her time. Absolutely magnificent.

"To tide us over" Nice!
This song speaks and teaches to me. Thanks Esperanza Spalding!
This style of jazz is what I'm looking for.
You were looking for style but found high class Jazz.

This dramatic-sounded sax after "Why would I listen to OTHEEERS" just killing me. I want to laugh and cry at the same time :)
Thank you Esperanza, for music diversity in the world, for creativity
Amazing as usual. Drummer is killing it.
Esperanza is amazing.
Extremely sofisticated, and beautiful and so dark and uneasy... great!
Wow,wonderful, what a beautiful voice...weird,so divine,indescritible...my preffered and adorable artist missy Esperanza Spalding sing from the deep of her lungs !!!
Favorite song of the album thus far. The harmonization here is on point.
An astonishing track from an astonishing album. Unequivocally my favourite album of 2018. Sheer genius.

This tune's one of her greats! Funny lyrics too!
This is real and beautiful, thanks for your truth Esperanza s2
Great message, love the vibrations and the afro!
Favorite track from the new album, keep creating.
Deep, dark and beautiful.
@PCgameplaz Then you should probably listen to something else and let others enjoy this great music.

Thank you for making alll of this. i know no one else capable of such ! All of you have a special place in my heart!
thank you so much for compose about (what we usually call) love in this way. Our extremly egoist context claim for his exposure

"i can't rest cause everything reeks of basic needs" OH MY GOD
I just LOVE You Esperanza :D
I just join this statement :)
If Kate Bush, Frank Zappa and The Internet had walked into a recording studio, I could well see this walking out.
Is she using endoscopes to take images from inside the body?
You can have my love

It's an explanation of what that particular "spell" can be used for ...
So this song is about an educated woman that’s about to outsmart herself out of human connection because she struggling with the concept of whether or not love ❤️ is an actual thing. However, in a roundabout way, she ultimately chooses to believe that it is?
Also something from prog rock of the 70s inside this.
Yes, it's a bit reminiscent of a Zappa composition.

it is a genius song from a genius artist.

To say that eye miss you is sort of an anomaly but it's true Im missing your Life Force and eye need to see you some more pretty please
Imagine a Kendrick Lamar + Esperanza Spalding song. Would the fabric of reality break?
oh it would
You need to be pretty high on drugs to really understand this awesome music, trust me
