This song makes me laugh so much, her sense of humour is just phenomenal. I’ve never heard a saxophone played so satirically

This whole album but especially this song puts me on a mental high like none other. This song is deep dark and absolutely genius. If you do not like this song , it is way over your head. This is absolutely genius.

This is a forever album, full of songs like this intimate and honestly rendered conversation with self, how the best parts of ourselves work tirelessly to teach ourselves the truth of what it means to be this human animal. Yup. There's often humility involved in how we need to respect and care for and love ourselves. We are animals, after all, not ethereal beings driving a walking, talking meat machine. We are this animal, with these needs, we don't get to choose that, we simply accept it and learn what we need to do to make it work, to be fully functional. It's our prejudice against the physical, against the flesh, culturally inculcated, which makes us want to believe we are something more than this, and so that humility is called for, in self-acceptance. Love is a physical thing. Feelings are physical. It's the touch, the glance, the gesture, the words, the act, by which we feel and know we are loved; these are physical things. And looking forward, as we learn more and know better, we can transcend our prejudicial attitudes toward our physical nature as we begin to understand that this doesn't debase the spiritual, but rather the physical is elevated and expanded to embrace and ultimately subsume the spiritual. It is prejudice which prevents us from seeing ourselves as physical bodies, and that prejudice thwarts our learning, holds us back from a clear conception of the real, grand and wonderful nature of the physical.

    With Others (ears)"
    You can have my love
As long as I can tell you what to do
If you know what I need
    You'll use it against me
    Yes it's sad enough
There just ain't enough love in the world
If you want some from me
    I'll need some context
    I've been learning about
    Psychology, sociology, and the rest
    Now I can't rest
'Cause everyone reeks of power trips
Where do I fit in your power trip?
Let's see if your analysis favours me
I mean otherwise why would I listen...
    To others
    Also
    Protecting
    Their baby
    Some
    In need of
    Undoing
    And real
    Love
From someone who lets me see they need mine
Without the pre-condition they be like me
    Like we
    Don't all
    Just need
    Love
Okay, so you're really just gonna say it straight out like that?
    That we all need love
    The promise of
    The knowledge of
    The promise of
    The knowledge of
    The soothing arms
    Well it's chemical
Really group survival in the wild
Is the history of instinctual nurture
So the feeling of needing to be loved is nothing more
Than our primitive brains responding to stress
    I've been learning about
    Psychology, neurobiology, and the rest
    Now I can't rest
'Cause everything reeks of basic needs
How do I get all my basic needs met?
    What?
D- do I really have to just- come out and say it?
Just straight up? That I do need
    Love, the promise of, love
Love, the knowledge of, of love
    Love, the soothing arms, love
Love, the promise of, of love
    Love, the knowledge of, love
Love, the soothing arms, of love
    Love
    Love
    Love
    Love

Wow. Esperanza. I hope this reaches as many people as it can, because everyone needs to hear it. It perfectly captures the skepticism and cynicism of today. We are all uncertain and insecure. We all need love. We all need to listen.
The idea that you wrote this incredible album "to tide us over" for your next big conceptual project... I mean... that is probably going to be one hell of an experience.

Those negative traits are indeed too wide spread these days.
I feel one small step we should all take which would have tremendous results (imo) is if we just stared being a little more courteous toward one another -- In real life AND online. Not a huge thing by itself....but it will make a huge difference....I think it will, anyway.

Can't stop watching this. Her facial expressions are everything. it's so funny, but then it's not. She captures the essence of love, its both happy and sad, pain and pleasure, basic and complex. The energy on this one reminds of a book I read by Zora Neal Hurtson, "I love myself when I'm lauging...And then again when I'm looking mean and impressive".

Saludos.

Been a fan of Esperanza for years...have most of her early albums on vinyl, except “Esperanza”. I wish I had the musical fluidity to appreciate these last two albums, but I just can’t find something to catch hold on to. That said, she’s an artist in the purest sense of the word. Artists should create what they feel, not what others want to hear. I wish I could have more vintage, groovin ES though!😞

    • @cosmiclounge

@@Pssybart Zappa certainly; also Mahavishnu Orchestra, maybe even King Crimson. A little more posturing than I normally care for in the lyrical aspect, but if "prog" is our watchword then she's progressed from highbrow Norah Jones to spearheading a one-woman jazz-rock revival, and for that reason alone should merit anyone's consideration.
